A wizard did it.

Not to be nitpicky, but if we go with that, we still need to explain a power source.
After all, I doubt that a Toa of lightning alone could generate enough energy.
-
I think you're thinking of Destral, Pit.
And yeah, Voya and Mata should be free of the tech. Makes them a little more interesting.
-
Lev, you're the last person I would expect to say that.
And I think a combination of these would work. Power grid is the natural "map", Lightning Toa control the flow, and a computer of sorts activated and makes sure the process runs smoothly.
-
I has idea.
Though they don't know this in-universe, Mata Nui is a giant robot. And robots need wires or similar things to move power about the system.
So what if they found inexplicable natural links between locations, and took advantage of that? Obviously, these are really his power grid, but they don't know that.
Oh yeah. And I would love to help with this.
-
Yeah, Nuju is not fond of the expies in any capacity.
-
BTW, Wotz. Magnus is sort if being carried by someone who hates him to a hospital.
-
Well, KNI just dropped a bomb in GD. I'm waiting for the inevitable argument.
I'm probably safe though. I really only have one char he could touch, and he's mine, so he should be safe.

More importantly, are you people really gonna make me make the Predacons?
-
BW Megateon? No.
BW Neo Magmatron?
Yeeeesssss.
*is slaughtered by fans of BW Megatron*
-
Hubert, you rule.
Also, Energon Ironhide would be hilarious.
Also, we gonna need someone to run the Predacons. Any volunteers? Besides TNG or AuRom or me?
-
Also, for reference, this is what any member of the Phantoms or Aukati know about the operation in which the Maximals and Predacons were presumed dead.
-A team was sent to the island of Tal to deal with a Deceptoa threat. The team mostly consisted of relative rookies and a few high-ranking Aukati.
-Communication went smoothly for a few months. Then, it stopped. When a team was sent to investigate, they saw an island ravage by both an earthquake and a volcanic eruption. They didn't make landfall, it was too risky.
-All members of the Aukati sent to the island were presumed lost, as it was unlikely that anyone could have survived.
-No one ever went back to the island.
-
Also, Wotz? Magnus is starting to see some action.
-
Oh, and somewhat offtopic, I never viewed the Beasts as sacrificing the idea of robots.
After all, they were meant to be robots in disguise, and that means adapting disguises to fit the environment. In this case, animals and high energon levels.
So their robot forms stayed normal, and they adapted beast alternate forms.
-
Hubert, combiners are coming. Oh dear.
Oh, and Maximals are their own faction, as stated in my info-dump of a post.
-
Eh, I've always been somewhat partial to the Beasties.
-
You want it?
-
No one yet.
-
BIG CONVOY!?
Welp, the world is now saved.
Yay! Someone understands.
-
I was talking to TX.
And yeah, Drift FTW.
-
You could actually form the Predacons.
-
Jooooin, TX. Join.
You don't need to know a lot. Just know a bit about the show, and you can check anything else on the Wiki.
Jooooin.
-
Well, Big Convoy shall make his appearance showing up to help Magnus with Galvatroth.
Other Maximals, and Predacons, can show up at will.
-
THIS IS IMPORTANT, READ THIS
With the advent of Big Convoy, the Maximals have successfully arrived in this game.
I have spent a fair amount of time pondering how best to handle them. In the official cartoon, they were the descendants of the Autobots. Obviously, that doesn't really work here.
Instead, they are an off-shoot. The Maximals are a group of Toabots who were sent to an island to deal with the Deceptoa threat there. Both sides were left for dead after an island-wide catastrophe.
The Maximals and Predacons (Should they arrive) were virtual nobodies in their armies. They were relatively new recruits, and the only people the Phantom and Toabot leaders would recognize were killed in the accident. Those that survived were forced to adapt, and conquer.
As a result, nobody in the Toabot or Phantom armies know who they are, unless specified otherwise.
Thank you for your time.

Ah, now it clicks in my head.
That sounds like a very feasible explanation of the mechanics.
