Mordegrist is the last MOC I have to post from BrickFair. At Bricks Cascade I was given a collectible minifig that turned out to be the sleepyhead with his teddy bear. I was somehow inspired to create a MOC around him, and ended up with this. The idea is that he lives in the dream world and protects the boy from nightmares while he's asleep, as his MOC cased indicated: Not many people seemed to read it though, as there were lots of comments on, 'that monster eating the boy.' Oh well.I really like how he came out. I think the different shades of grey and silver work well and the splashes of red and blue (the minifig) add some nice contrast. The armor is placed on the him to work in this one particular pose, and in some areas his range of movement is pretty restricted as a result. But that was part of the design and done to make him look as un-hollow as I could. And of course, you can see all the images in my BrickFair 2012 gallery.

The Mangai Wyvern was created for BrickFair's fire theme. I was initially going for something more avian, like a phoenix, but I somehow ended up with a dragon. Can't say I'm completely pleased with how it turned out, but I didn't quite have the pieces or the inspiration to improve it. The logic behind the color scheme was to keep the core red and have it get lighter as you went to its extremities. I wish I had been able to work a little orange in, but I think it looks alright. Here's the description from the MOC card with a little fictional backstory: All the images are also in my BrickFair 2012 gallery.

Way back in who knows when DeeVee announced the Bionicle trophies for Bricks Cascade 2012 out in Portland, and one of them was for the 'Best Toa Moderator.' And I thought to myself, 'I should actually build something for a fan event this year,' and a Toa seems like a great place to start. And since the theme for BrickFair was Fire! it only made sense to make everyone's favorite fire Toa, Tahu. Not very original, but that wasn't the intent. Most of my Bionicle parts are still packed up from when I was in college, but I've been steadily picking up Hero Factory sets as I see ones that catch my eye or that go on sale, so Tahu is pretty much entirely Hero Factory parts (the mask and sword are from the Stars set, obviously). I played around with a bunch of different color combinations, trying for the classic red and orange on a black frame, the same on a red frame, and finally settled on red on black, since my orange part selection just wasn't enough to get the job done. I think it works pretty well. At one point I also experimented with adding some gold highlights. They didn't work too well with the black, but I managed to scrounge up enough red limb pieces to make a red and gold version. Only having one fire sword, I had to tack on some other weapons. The idea is: what would Tahu do after Mata Nui's victory over Makuta on Bara Magna? Maybe he'd give the Glatorian Arena a try to help keep his skills sharp. And so Glatorian Arena Tahu was born!
