That seems rather unfortunate, and strange. They're both in wide release right now (in the US and UK at least) so... I guess give it a week and see if it comes late? The wide release dates where just yesterday.

 

Are most of the theaters around you of the smaller chains that typically show only independent films? If so, there's still the possibility they'll arrive later in time. One of these theaters near me didn't get Argo until the DVD nearly arrived. Although I guess if you managed to see Frozen and Pacific Rim in your local theaters then that's probably not where the problem is.

He lives in Canada, so not overseas, but still not in the US.

Some of the theatres are independent; about half of them are Cineplex-owned, though. :|

Ah. I guess what makes most sense is to call a few theaters and ask what the deal is (assuming you haven't already done so). Certainly can't hurt.
