My Prediction Has Changed.

C. J.'s injury has me convinced. The Giants are going to win the World Series in five games, and it will be no fault of their own. Throughout the postseason, the Giants have won by facing slumping teams. First the Braves, then the Phillies, and now the Rangers cannot do anything that sheer misfortune can't stop.

Unfortunately, that also means we have what is probably the most dull World Series of the past ten years. Never before do I remember a time in the last decade where such a mediocre team as the Giants has managed to catch every team they play in a slump. I, frankly, would rather have seen Phillies and Yankees again rather than this, because this is really what I interpret as cheap wins. In the regular season, I wouldn't care. In the regular season, you don't have an entire nation watching, but in the postseason, you ought to have better baseball than this. I'd much rather see a Yankees repeat, so long as they won it by simply being a fantastic team, than to see a team like the Giants win simply because the other team got tough breaks like the Rangers have, or if the other team fell into a slump like the Phillies.

I am seriously considering not watching the World Series for the first time. It just is a pain to me to watch it happen. Even so, you folks in San Francisco enjoy it. Even so, if the Giants do win, I hope they do it in seven, so that Wilson's injury doesn't matter.

I saw the Rangers' pitching meltdown in the Eighth. It was painful to watch, seeing major league pitchers not able to throw a strike. As the great Cy Young once said (and I'll paraphrase here) "If you can't throw the ball across the plate whenever you want, you're not a good pitcher." At this rate, it seems that the Rangers 'pen is full of awful suckitude.

The Giants, to their credit, play like they want to be there. The Rangers are playing like they've already lost.

But if you're rooting for the Giants, this is a nice world series :)

E: Here's an approval as well. :)

Duh. If it was the Cubs who were NL Champs, I'd be loving it, because if your team's still in it, you don't care how messy it is so long as they win, but if your team is out, you want to see good baseball, and so far, this World Series has not had good baseball.

EDIT: And thanks for the approval. I've put it up.

It's about DANGNABBIN' TIME

EDIT: ...Then I read the rest of your post. What you said was unbelievably sour grapes, for the record. :P

Seriously. If the Cubs aren't in it, I don't care to watch mediocre teams in the World Series. (And right now, the Cubs are less than mediocre. :P ) But yeah, I watch the World Series to see the best baseball of the year otherwise. This doesn't have that. Just like I don't care to watch the Super Bowl if it's full of rotten playing. (Although I don't watch the Super Bowl anyway. :P )

And I wouldn't say it's sour grapes. Sour grapes is when you can't have something and figure that it probably isn't good. I'm saying that what I don't have would most likely be better (Phillies-Yankees World Series, or maybe Phillies-Rangers).

But yeah, bottom line is that this World Series is just disappointing. If the Cubs were NL Champs, it would be terrific--just as it is for you, since the Giants won, but since the Cubs aren't in it, it's disappointing. I might also enjoy it more if the White Sox were AL Champs, because it's always fun to watch the White Sox get clobbered. :D

As a side note, I just remembered that in Spring Training, the best two teams in baseball were the Giants and the Cubs. Unfortunately, the Cubs' Spring Training record was not a sign of things to come, but apparently it was for San Francisco.

Valid. But I disagree that the World Series is usually the best baseball there is. What with the inter-league play, it's inevitable that one or both teams will get screwed up somehow - the factors of hitting pitchers/dh's, the far-more-frequent order/position changes of the NL vs the AL, etc. aren't things that teams not in that league are used to or good at playing.

I think that league championships are generally better playing and more exciting than the World Series - the kind of baseball played by the two different leagues is just kinda funky when put up against that of the other, IMO.

Yeah, but that's never stopped anyone. Ever since the All-Star game has determined World Series home-field advantage (and thus every World Series from then until this year has had a DH for the most part) the St. Louis Cardinals, the Florida Marlins, and the Philadelphia Phillies have all won, with a DH, and sometimes, a DH just means that the manager needs to adjust his strategy, and all of them have played interleague ball earlier this season. With some NL clubs, like the Phillies, having a DH only gives them an advantage, while the lack of one takes a much larger toll on AL clubs, as their pitchers never bat outside of NL ballparks, and often in causes the managers to put their DHs on the field, like when Ron Washington put Vlad in RF.

But yes, unfortunately, strategy is watered down in the AL, but that doesn't make it any less exciting, particularly when there's a pitchers' duel.
