  1. The Temple of Time is seen in the top left of this image. It doesn't really look like the same building.
  2. The image that is your avatar is also technically copyrighted. This seems like it falls under fair-use. Also, time has shown that LEGO is nothing like the record labels of the early 2000's. They simply don't care.
  3. I would call it "BIOlogical chroNICLE". Utah huh? Ever known anyone who worked for Saffire Inc? EDIT: Darn it, someone ninja'ed a variation on my idea.
  4. If we get the original file, we can upload it to YouTube. I'm sure someone will. I think you would need a program to burn the ISO to a blank CD as a CD (versus creating a data CD with the ISO file on it). But if you have that, they sure. You could also just extract the ISO with 7-Zip, and probably some other programs.
  5. I'm having some trouble getting these running in a virtual machine. I have some ideas as to why and I'll try some more tomorrow, but the menu system can be viewed outside of the included executables. Create a folder named "DSWMEDIA" (necessary to allow the menu to load files). Copy the entire contents of the CD you want to view into that folder, or a subfolder there of. Open BIONICLE_CD1.dxr either BIONICLE_CD2.dxr (depending on the CD) in an internet browser (you must have Shockwave Player installed).Note that the "bionicle intro.mov" won't play, but everything else seems to work (you can play the video ouside the menu in a video player like VLC). I tested this on Firefox on OS X, but should work the same on Windows. Poking through the layers for the PSD files is slow but interesting! Apparently the "Water is for Wimps" initally said "Water is for Sissies". There are some unused layers and some background compoents that can be seem much more clearly when you peel back the layers. There are also a few images I don't recall seeing before (but maybe I just don't remember). A BIONICLE Matoran font is also included. Also, I don't know why, but the CD project is internally called "7971 Bionicle Style Guide" (LEGO set 7971 is a 2010 LEGO Racers set). It seems it was also developed by www.redcentral.co.uk. UPDATE: Added instructions on how to view CD in browser and have images load.
  6. Technically, I think they ran natively on OSX at the time it was produced, back when OSX used IBM processors. OSX had a built-in PowerPC emulator called Rosetta to ease the transition to Intel processors, but they dropped that with 10.7 Lion. 10.6 Snow Leopard would be the last version of OSX that might be able to run these. A Windows VM is probably easier though. Shockwave was never very stable, I'm not surprised Wine can't run it very well.
  7. Don't bother. The images actually have both Windows and Mac formats in them, and seem to work on both platforms. I currently trying to analyse how this works.
  8. I take back what I said before, there are Windows executables. For some reason, I wasn't seeing them. Investigating.
  9. Once I get them downloaded, I'll see if this is possible. The executables are the old Mac Preferred Exutable Format from way back. Snow Leopard with Roseta might be able to run them. Not sure. It's all Shockwave based. I'll see if I can extract the main Shockwave movie out of it and run it outside. Strange that there only seems to be Mac executables with no Windows ones. Torsti, are the CD's you have possibly hybrid CD's? A CD with 2 different partitions, one for Mac, one for Windows? UPDATE: The contents of these CD's are incredible! Perfect, uncompressed source media including original vector art!
  10. For those using old versions of Windows (pre-Windows 8), you can extract them with 7-Zip or mount them with a image mounting program. Mac and Linux have had this functionallity for a long time. Once I get them downloaded, I'll see if this is possible. I second this!
  11. Simply enough, they didn't include it. Technically breaking the terms of the contest but that prize package was so massive anyway that I doubt any winners had a problem with it. I'm pretty sure they were given something(s) else instead. Most-likely the contest official rules said something like "We reserve the right to substitute the prize with another prize of equal or greater value."

  13. Who cares about subtle glitches or even if the gameplay is good? I don't want a copy because I want to have fun playing it, I could buy a modern video game for that. I want a copy because it was the canon 2001 BIONICLE story line. Sure I'll hack around anything major that stops me from playing through the game, but small bugs, nah. I think you misunderstood my post. I'm saying that if the developers were confident they could fix it quickly, the glitches that do exist therefore must be glaringly obvious and game-breaking, just due to the nature of software development and the psychology of programmers. The logic goes something like this (in the programmer's mind): I see a few bugs that are game-breaking. They're obvious and I know how to fix them. My estimate to fix everything: very short amount of time. I'm wrong, of course, because hiding behind all of the obvious bugs are the subtle glitches that are harder to find. Or...The game seems mostly done, but every so often I see something happen that's not quite right and I have no idea why, and I can't get it to happen again. Paranoia sets in and I start to imagine the entire codebase as a teeming nest of glitches ready to eat our budget whole.Just a hunch based on personal experience with my last few projects. I see. I can mostly agree with this. However comparing the Onua level video to other many other released LEGO video games, and some non-LEGO games from the time, the quality does look nearly comperable. That's not stictly true. I don't imagine any studios would release the source code, but former employees of a defunct studio can be another story. I know from experience. In all honesty, even if we did get source code, this would probably be the easier option. Source code could certainly help, but trying to setup a 15 year old Direct X project compiling on some ancient version of Windows and Visual Studio would be very difficult. Plus, I already cracked the BLK game archive format and we believe we have cracked the save file format.
  14. I also happen to be a computer programmer. Watching the level 1 videos, the only glitches I see are the onu-matoran are textureless, which is probably not a glitch and just that they didn't get to add details yet, and the death glitch going down those stairs. The stairs are spaced to where you wouldn't get damaged, but the glitch given you enough damage to kill you. A programmer, like myself, could easily create a Patch to go with that part that lets you safely land with no damage. Actually, when the videos were first uploaded, I distinctly remember RedQuark saying there were a number of glitches in the game but Deep Brick had edited them out of the videos to make the gameplay as close as possible to what the finished thing would've been like. Where was that? I seem to recall seeing seeing one or two instances where the video was cut. Something about getting caught in doorways maybe? I'm guessing he was able to get around them somehow.
  15. That synopsis is amazing! I haven't finished reading it yet, but pages 2 and 3 seem to be missing with 6 and 7 repeated in thier place. Can you add pictures of these pages?

  19. He filmed the menu screens earlier on then the playthough (according to the article on the game, the cutscenes were video files that could be opened outside the game). He may have worked out a way of improving the quality. I don't think he filmed the cutscenes, but sent them to Red Quark who transcoded them and uploaded them to YouTube. Supposedly, these are the only cutscenes with the game. He couldn't film the other levels because he didn't know how to bypass the impassible bug.
  20. I don't believe they are from E3. They are supposed to be from Deep Brick and I doubt they would have shown the impassible areas in a demo at E3. I would like to know what they did show at E3, but alas it was before the internet of today.

The only credible source on how many exist I've seen is "Not many." Incidentally, there are claims that builds of the game were distributed internally among LEGO and Templar as it was being developed. Some sources say 8, some say 10. I just use 10 because it's a good round number. But if you guys want me to start using 8, then I can do that. Umm, my point was that both numbers are probably inaccurate. We really don't know how many copies exist.

  23. In that case there'd surely be six, not four. Wow, I could have swore there were 6. Never mind then, they must be Rahi rather than something of a specific number. There are 6 in the video you linked, but only 4 in the MNOG animation.
  24. Hmm, does that make the center planet Aqua Magna, and the orbiting planets the Red Star and Aqua Magna's moon? Nah, no Rahkshi. That same story appeared in a lot of different 2001 media, andit was spelled out pretty explicitly that the small black stones were rahi: I thought they were supposed to be the Shadow Toa. That video does seem to suggest otherwise though.
