The Last Hurrah

Who knew the first Joker would outlive the second Joker?   Heath Ledger was found dead in his SoHo apartment this afternoon, at the age of 28. Pardon me whilst this 28-year-old ponders his own mortality.     I guess it just goes to show you that fame, fortune, and a budding career a reason-for-living do not make. Take this to heart, those of you in high school and college: there must be more to life than what Mr. Ledger found.       -KIE

Battlestations

I expect derision for this entry.   Not because this is not anime, mind you. I concede this does not fall under the category, but the "oversized eyes" category had collected a lot of dust. It needed a little activity.   No, I expect the derision to arise from the general subject matter.           I became a Mo Willems and Tom Warburton fan back in the days of Sheep in the Big City. GREAT little show on Cartoon Network that didn't get nearly enough air-time; I wish I could buy the entire serie

Encore

The "E" word no part-time brass player wants to hear when he's just busted his chops by playing for the first time in 12 months. Also the title of an article in yesterday's paper I thought was very interesting:     Just some food for thought, and the ears...   -KIE

I Died

Been busy for the past week. Anyone noting the entry ID number on this post will notice that this is from last year. This is true: I started writing an entry about what I got for Christmas. I started in draft, and got really busy. For any of you wondering, a partial list is below:   WHAT I GAVE: Amanda: a Victoria's Secret gift card (Juvenile comments from the peanut gallery will be deleted.) a bottle of perfume: Ralph Lauren Blue a $20 IOU because underarmour.com can't keep their inventory st

Legendary

Amanda & I went on a vain attempt to pass the night together earlier tonight. It was an epic series of failure, à la a previous mall encounter. (That watch now says 2 AM, by the way.)   I was reminded of another favorite anime of my college days, and set out, with Amanda, to go find it so that I could introduce her to another storyline. We went to fye at the Esplanade Mall, and they didn't have it (Which one? You'll find out at a later date.), but, amazingly, they could order it. Order pla

Dropping The Gumbo Pot

My head hurts. What year is it?     In all seriousness, we don't have a giant glowing ball of light bulbs. Instead, New Orleans has a pot of gumbo. Amanda, her mom, & I rang in the new year at Jackson Square this morning. Despite 5 false-starts, we had a first New Year's kiss, and, heeeee.   Sorry, the stupid grin just came back, and I can't seem to shake it.     My bowl picks are a mess, and I'm sick of coughing & blowing my nose (caught something at the end of last week). But 2008

Jingleberry

Against all manner of common sense, I am writing a blog entry at work. Right now, at 9:00 PM. On Sunday.   I should be accomplishing what I'm here for. After all, I start full-time at the Joseph S. Yenni building tomorrow, actually in 11 hours, while certain elements of a submittal are still not yet done. And yet, I feel compelled to recount the events of this weekend.   Besides, my computer is doing its thing right now, so there's not much else I can do to speed it along.     TubaChristmas

A Winner Is Me

It came in today's mail.   Also included were two copies of WoW 2008 and a LifeSongs sticker.  Why am I burning this great title on something so petty? Simple: as often as I win stuff, it'll be a long time before it's needed once more. Now if you'd excuse me, I must bask for a bit.     -KIE, who found a way to get himself killed by the first enemy in the Easy mode of Ghost Recon last night.

Re-vision

I'm giving up.   No, I'm not breaking down and buying a Wii. As badly as I want one, it would be my undoing.   I'm giving up on this video card.     When I downloaded Team Fortress 2, I had to download a new GeForce driver to make sure the game operated smoothly. While the game has worked wonderfully, the brightness of my screen has been overcharged, and video playback has been a bit....garbled. And recent attempts to find another EN7950GT for the purposes of SLI have been futile at best.

Wii Are Still Waiting

Another short entry, as I have errands to run.   Two major points to address from the past couple of days:   1) Brandy is now 4 or 5 days overdue. 2) I'd best not ever own a Nintendo Wii of my own: I lack the self-control to stop playing.   -KIE

Tryptophantic Advent (2007)

No article about prescription "I don't need sleep anymore" pills.... but that article is still in the archives from last year.   No, what I learned recently is that complacency in a young relationship is pretty toxic.     Happy Thanksgiving, guys & gals.   -KIE, still not an uncle

The Maroon Mug

Taking a litte time out to post about the neat stuff being passed out at the office. First, there was an ink pen on Monday, and then yesterday [while I was at the parish office], a coffee mug with the company logo.   I'll probably get to display it prominently at the Yenni building, every morning when I no longer have internet access during the day.   I'm not looking forward to that. Then again, it'll be good for a change in scenery, and who knows: I may get stuff done at that point.     Too

Spider & Shark

Brandy is officially due in 0-2 weeks. I am authorized to ask Michael, from now until birth, when he calls me if this is "The Call." Just putting the rest of you on notice.   Oh, and if any of you feel so inclined, pray for my mate [in the context of European/Australian english] from college, Earl: he was in a car accident Tuesday, and apparently the seat belt severely injured his pancreas, sending him to the ER and then ICU halfway into a diabetic coma.   This was posted Wednesday at wired.c

Legitimacy

Something I'm not going to claim in Fantasy Football this year.   Give you an idea of the futility I've put forth this year: According to the breakdown rankings (where your score is pitted against the scores of the entire league, and how you'd fare if you were playing someone other than your opponent that week, and readily visible versus your actual record), in games I've played, I'm 3-6. However, against the entire league, I'm 54-43-2. That's a full game over .500, yet my winning percentage is

A Day With No Food

Or at least it seems like it.   In the process of preparation for a procedure tomorrow morning, I've had to go the last 24 and the next 6 hours on a clear liquid diet. I get to eat Jello, broth, and sports drinks, all that aren't red or orange.   Trust me, that's not much to choose from.     You never realize how much you appreciate something until it's taken away from you.     At least I can still guzzle some broth: after 12 AM, I'm not supposed to have anything at all. And no, it's not lik

To Find My Way To You

Well I can't find the words to say Just to make, make this go away So you just bleed and I can't sleep tonight 'Cause it's hard to see just what you mean Across the lines that bring your voice to me But I can hear your every tear when you cry And, oh love, when you say to me That your heart breaks every time I leave I would set out across the sea Just to find my way to you Well I don't know which way to go So I search the stars, basking in the glow But they all fall down wi

Nap Day

That's what Burg called today: a day to stay home and take naps. No housework.   What? It's been raining since 7 AM!       No hijinks about it: this was the press release emailed to me....   Yes, that's $50,000,000.00   Maybe I'll get assigned to some of it...maybe I'll end up on just SCIP duty at the parish. :/     -KIE

Vote For Bobby

In the grossly unlikely event that it should affect anyone's ballot, "From the outskirts of Chocolate City" endorses Piyush "Bobby" Jindal, Republican from Kenner, for the office of Governor of the state of Louisiana. (Never mind that his polling was at 63% of the statewide vote last week....)   Oh yeah, and there's an election today in Louisiana. Go vote.     -KIE   Update at 12:30 AM CDT: With 53.9% of the statewide primary vote, Piyush "Bobby" Jindal is the governor-elect of the state of

Gone Phishing

It took a good long while (18 months), but I finally got another phishing email to my work email account, one I'm not going to share here.   I give you the contents, with links disabled...     Seems important enough, but upon opening the nuts & bolts of the message (closely observing the pointed-at address in a web client, or selecting "View Source" in Outlook), one can see that oversized address in the middle of the document does not go to where it states.   Of course, I didn't need to
