I Have No Fear Of Drowning....

...it's the breathing that's taking all this work.       The model is unravelling. That's the only word for it.   I was supposed to finish improvement runs Monday. Instead, I might have calibration finished Monday. In other words, I have 6 weeks of work and 2½ weeks in which to do it.   I'm out of time. It's all over.   Nothing short of a contract extension or divine intervention will save my hide.   -KIE

Epicurean Bliss

197¾ lb., 24.8% body fat   Still sick. *cough* Not as miserable, though.   Yes, there is hope in KIE's world. After 10 wayward years, the Italian Chicken sandwich has returned, if only for a time, to Burger King.   If any of you have seen the Dexter's Lab cutscene on Cartoon Network, where Dexter is munching away at an endless burger pyramid? Yeah, that's me with the Italian Chicken sandwich.   Must...engorge...myself....     -KIE, who wishes they'd bring back the French for a little bit

Resolution

In 2009, I resolve to kiss Amanda more.     I've only got a moment, so I'll share something that came via email.   CAT HAIKU   You are my best friend, Person Allergic To Cats. Let me shed on you.   I leap for a bird And miss. I pretend I was Stretching, to fool you.   I'm not sure what this Was when it was alive, but Isn't it nice now?   I want out. I want In. Out. In. Out. In. Out. In. Are you angry yet?     No, I don't abuse Boots. Why do you ask?   -KIE

And Now, The Deluge

No really, the skies just opened up here in Kenner. It'd been overcast for the past few days, and very mild. I hear it's snowed in San Antonio, and sleet has shut down Dallas. (How ya doin' up there, 'raga?)   Spent most of the day playing hooky from work. Ultima Online helps pass the time waiting for the cable guy to arrive 4 hours late.   But now I can watch the TV I got three months ago. While getting stuff done on UO was fun, that cut into my bonus check (which is basically my unused vacat

Omn Omn Om

In case any of you were wondering what happened to me & my blog...   In the tiny sliver of free time between work, gym, time with Amanda, sleep, and prepping for BrickFair, I've been eating a sandvich.   -KIE (nom nom nom)

Countdown

T-minus 7 days and 6 hours, give or take, until Brickfest....   No, I am not going to catalogue each and every moment until my first visit to Washington, D.C., in almost 20 years. That's not what I meant by countdown.   I bought a scale yesterday. One of those electronic ones that can also measure body fat. See, I've mentioned that I put on a fair amount of weight in the ten months following Katrina, with no outlet for physical activity because I lived so far away from civilization. (Yes, I co

I Am Not A Terrorist!

Poor choice of days to post, I'm sure, but I had recent run-ins with the TSA that, well, served as ill reminders that flying isn't as simple a matter as it was 8 years ago.   Since there was no power at my apartment complex that Thursday night (a week ago, I believe), I had little choice but to head back to Monroe, where my girlfriend had already started making plans to get our flights to Cincinnati diverted. Why Cincinnati?   I first met Amanda 7, nearly 8 years ago. We were missionaries to t

Battlestations

I expect derision for this entry.   Not because this is not anime, mind you. I concede this does not fall under the category, but the "oversized eyes" category had collected a lot of dust. It needed a little activity.   No, I expect the derision to arise from the general subject matter.           I became a Mo Willems and Tom Warburton fan back in the days of Sheep in the Big City. GREAT little show on Cartoon Network that didn't get nearly enough air-time; I wish I could buy the entire serie

Are You Ready For Some Football....part The Second

Well, either Marilyn or Matt Hasselbeck gift-wrapped a victory for the Cruisers this weekend. 81-70 is the final, and I was a 10½ point underdog. But I'm not about to complain or gloat: Jimmie gloated, and Tim, the commissioner, came up with this story to switch kickers and wide receivers after the fact, creating a tie between the Touchdown Titans (Tim) and the Caribe Sharks (team Martinez), with the Titans having a player left to play tonight. Marilyn still said she wanted to start T.J. Who'sY

Playoffs? You Want To Talk About Playoffs?!?

Might be before some of y'all's time, but that's supposed to come off like Jim Mora, Sr. (former New Orleans Saints and Indiannapolis Colts head coach) in a post-game news conference back in, I dunno, 1999 or something: Indy had just lost, and one of the reporters asked Mora about how this loss would affect their playoff chances. Mora then went on this incredulous rant as to how, after playing so poorly as they did that game, anyone would consider the NFL playoffs to be in their future.   You s

To Capture A Chapel...

Paraphrase of a conversation overheard at a long table in a Baton Rouge Logan's Roadhouse two weekends ago...   "So, what's going to happen with Hurricane Erin?" "More than likely, it'll approach land, say 'Am I ready yet? No.', and back away. This pattern will continue for about five weeks." *laughter* "Okay, then what about Hurricane Felix?" "Oh, he'll just wander around out in the Atlantic. If it does hit anything, it'd be a miracle."     For the record, Felix and Erin are my brother's f

Hunting

I need to talk to my brother, yet when I called last night, I completely forgot what it was I was going to say, and ended up just chatting about Team Fortress Classic. Yes, I'm as well-versed as any in using the detpack, a timer-set bomb (5-second, 20-second, and 50-second timer varieties only) capable of clearing enviromental barricades and killing any enemy within blast range (and the demolitions man that set it, if he's still within line-of-sight) in one blow, as an offensive weapon. Still, t

The 165th Hour

*yawn*   I mentioned I play Ultima Online, right? Well, this past week, from 4 AM CST Tuesday (7 Nov) to 4 AM CST Tuesday (14 Nov) was a "Welcome back week," a period of free login for accounts in good standing. (Normally, it's a $13/month subscription service.) Thus, a friend and guildmate, whom I shall henceforth refer to as "Pike", and I had a unique opportunity to create a lasting memento of the guild's founder in-game. See, UO's been open for 9 years. Longest continously running MMORPG...c

The Unimaginable

"Pigs have flown. ###### has frozen over. The Saints are on their way to the Super Bowl." -call from Jim Henderson on the Saints Radio Network   Somewhere, if only on the front page of the Living section of this morning's Times-Picayune, Buddy D is wearing a dress.   Euphoria is running rampant in Chocolate City. I swear, but nothing else of relevance happened in the world except that the Saints are going to the Super Bowl. being the 1 in Tampa's 1-26 franchise mark Bum Phillips not figuring o

The First Date

No cryptic, witty, or double-meaning title necessary this time, as this very well exceeds any need for one. I've played the escort before, but this was my first honest-to-goodness date. Saturday evening, Amanda & I went on what could only be described as an [epic at the end] adventure. We went to Lakeview (northwest New Orleans) to eat at Landry's seafood, on the shore of Lake Pontchartrain.   We got there at about 7:40, and were told that it'd be a 30-45 minute wait. No worries, as it was

Slow Ride

Apparently, I rock. (I bet you thought I was posting lyrics two days in a row. Nyah. )   Easter was fun. Amanda & I went to her parents' place in West Monroe for the weekend. We left Thursday night, and I got to play photographer Friday morning at Biedenhorn Gardens in Monroe. Camelias & tulips were in bloom as the gardens were open for Easter pictures. Those of you who may have linked here otherwise (Yes, BZPower, I advertise my blog on other websites.) should see photographs loaded s

By Any Other Name....

A disturbing, if not expected, trend is developping. I am losing the time to blog, as the sewer model is bogging down. In other words, I need to spend less time blogging/reading blogs, and more time working on what I'm paid to do.     I really expected a bigger BrickFest response, but alas: the stage appears to be too big for some. FYI: Unless you are registered for, and attending, BrickFest PDX 2007 in your own right, you must contact either me or Omi if you want to display a MOC: you can't

Orange Bouncy Ball Of Complete And Utter Chaos

197½ lb., 24.5% body fat   It's been over a week since I've posted, and with good reason: HUNTWYCK IS DRIVING ME UP THE FREAKIN' WALL. Don't believe me? There are shoeprints on the wall beneath my 2005 Astros NL Champion pennant. I can take a picture tomorrow.   There, now that I have that out of my system, time to recap the last 5 days...   The 2006 ASCE/ACI Louisiana Civil Engineering Conference and Trade Show was, well, a bust in my book. Several steps back from the last conference I att

Partridges In Pear Trees For All!

That's today, by the way.   "What?" you say. "Christmas is December 25!"   While the date is correct, today is the first day of the Twelve Days of Christmas, the stretch of time from Christmas (yesterday) to Epiphany (January 6). Without delving too deep into religion (those that do celebrate Epiphany aren't even my own), Epiphany commemorates, I THINK (don't quote me on this), the advent of the deity of Christ.   Myself, I believe Jesus was born 100% God and 100% man, thus making the Epipha

Appeal To Lapels

This would end up in Office Hijinks, if only that it were something light-hearted. No, this is much more life-altering than that.   For the past 7 months, I have been mired in an application process to take the Principles and Practices of Engineering Exam, in hopes of gaining my licensure as a professional engineer. For the past 7 months, I have been tracking down references from the past 7 years, hoping to get all the paperwork together in time. For the past 7 months, I have been reliving t

Apocalypse Redux

I am hereby officially distracted for BrickFair. <removed, it was the track for Hurricane Gustav>    I'm hoping and praying that storm doesn't hit New Orleans. It will be big, wherever it hits. And if it hits NOLA, it will hit when my flight back from BrickFair would land.   In other words, if I can get back, I won't have long at all to get my stuff packed to evacuate.     Good God Almighty here we go again.     -KIE

Dry Run

Okay, seeing as I've never messed with a blog before, this might be rough at the outset.   This is a first post, just to see if I'm doing it right. And if I didn't, then oh well.     Two first topics, I suppose:   Thursday was the start of the 2006 hurricane season, and I'm still not in my apartment. FYI to those unaware: I moved to New Orleans in February 2005, getting a job modelling the sewer system of Metairie and Bridge City, LA. Katrina made for a lot of work & job security, but I

A Wonderful Star

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap070817.html   Astronomy is so cool. I swear, next meteor shower I'm going out to the meadow at LaFreniere, fireants and light pollution regardless.     Amanda got down here without incident. She's called to tell me that the 8:45 interview was really just a second interview, and that the process is not complete yet. Gosh, it wouldn't be the federal government if there weren't red tape.   Yesterday on the way in, she got a phone call from a place she interview
