Hero Factory Thoughts

I'd rather buy an overpriced Agori or Stars. Unless other sets really stick out to me as being useful in MOCing, I'll definitely have more money to buy some System stuff. (Which is a good thing.)   I don't even think I want a helmet or two. I'd rather just stick to the Bionicle I have.   Granted, these are just small sets. Not that they look impressive or anything.   -CF

Dooming Us All

The other night at almost 5 or 6 in the morning (so..."The other morning at..."?) I sat up abruptly and looked at my roommate's bed sheets (he was at his friend's house) crumpled up on his bed, and thought:   I need to disarm the bomb under his covers. No...why would there be a bomb under his covers? It doesn't matter. There's only 15 minutes left to disarm it. It doesn't make sense. I would have done it already. If I just go to sleep no one will know I didn't do anything.   Or something

Weirdest Birthday Present Ever

It's not until Friday, but that doesn't matter. What I got was a razor. Y'know, to shave with. It's a Gillete Fusion, with five blades and an extra one on the other end. So it looks pretty nice. The package it came in (it came the mail), it was free mind you, said something like "You're 18! Here's a razor!" Weird.   My current razer works fine (Gillete Mach3, also free from about 5 years ago), since I have about 6 spare blades from an 8 pack or something, so I don't need a new razor.

Got This In The Mail Today

Still 8 days until graduation! Actually, I would have been graduated by now in 8 days....   Hmm, blog category "Lego" or "Boy Scouts"?   Got this in the mail today! Usually, the new Eagle Scout/his troop only requests letters of commendation from the President and politicians. I, however, was different. Not only did I get a letter of commendation from my Bishop, but I was bold enough to send requests to GregF (the editor of LEGO Mag) and some Manga-ka. I heard that George Lucas and Steven

Give Me A Hand

2 days until college! (and my laptop has apparently been shipped!)   So...I revamped Photok for my own personal liking. It started with giving him a mata head just because I wanted to. Then I added a little more orange to him. Then I figured out an amazing hand design that is so much better than Hydraxon's or other kinds that use the T-bar. So given that those fingers are silver I gave him an added bit of silver too!   (This is the only picture I have of him. Granted, he's still on my s

Being Bookish 2013

Spoiler alert: Once you graduate college you suddenly find plenty of time to read books that have been on your list for years, because homework is nonexistent!   While I read a lot over the summer, fall and winter, I have only just recently been pushing through books left and right. Being ambitious, I hope to read 40-60 books next year, including, but not limited to:   The Cassandra Project NW American Gods Ready Player One Gone Girl Cloud Atlas The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo World War Z Tinker

Snow...yet Classes

We're probably the only school in the area that is still having classes with 7 inches of snow on the ground. Elementary schools, high schools, the other colleges in the are--all off for snow. Except for us.   -CF

I Win

I was not planning on blogging today, a day being before I go to bed, as now it is Wednesday, but Randall Munroe's latest piece just made me a very wealthy man:     -CF   Quote of the Day: Light switches: Things that make and destroy darkness.

Sleep Texting

Monday morning. My alarm goes off at 8:30 so I can get up in time for classes and get a package before hand. Hit the snooze button a few times because I know my roommate is already up, so it won't bother him.   A little background before I continue: Freshmen year I turned off my alarm right as it went off once, causing my roommate and I to miss our 9 o'clock class (and we would have missed our 10 o'clock one as well if my friend hadn't called the room phone at that time). Earlier this year

My First L U G Meeting!

Well, on Saturday I went to my first Lego User's Group (LUG) meeting! The group is WAMALUG (Washington Metro Area LUG). I went with two 16 year old friends, and had an interesting time. I was able to talk with AFOLs young and older, and almost every new set was there. I was able to see the new Aqua Raider sets, some new Exo Force, a couple of Barraki and all the small box sets, and some new Star Wars sets.   We also played BrickQuest, an RPG using Lego.   I do plan on going back, but not

Unspoken Fears

Ever have any fears where you don't want to tell people of that fear because then they will become fearful/paranoid along with you? I just don't want to tell anyone whenever I am standing at a crosswalk corner that I fear a car could suddenly veer over the curb and hit me.   You see what I did there.   -CF (Seriously, that would be terrible small talk while you wait for the light to change.)

Spite

So here's the thing: I haven't read Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers or The Return of the King.   I'll wait for all of you to recover from the state of shock.   I'm currently working on Towers, but it's hard with all my schoolwork and stuff.   Also, I haven't seen those two movies, because I'm picky like that.   Now, my friends say they are going to force me to sit down and watch the movies this semester whether or not I finish the books.   Regardless of if I finish the books, what if I re

Brickfair Mosaic Project, April

In case you haven't heard, Nukaya and I have this cool idea about having a community-built LEGO mosaic coordinated in time for BrickFair. Basically, each volunteer would be tasked with building a 32x32 segment on a baseplate with the studs facing out. (More details here for the general info.)   But here's the problem: We both can't figure out the PicToBrick LEGO mosaic program. We've started working with it, as in we can load images, crop them, and try to mess around with the colors, but the

The I T Crowd

I love British humor! (Well, of course, there's Monty Python after all.)   And maybe just all the other shows England does as well... (Doctor Who, Sherlock, Life on Mars, Outcasts, Primeval, Being Human...) (But that does not let me forget about my beloved American Sci-Fi (and other programing). (Firefly, Stargate, Warehouse 13, The Big Bang Theory...)   That being said, perhaps I should give the BBC The Office a shot.   -CF

Having Cake--> Eating

Except...having and eating are synonymous when it comes to food.   Which is why I don't understand the phrase that much. Probably does not help that I first heard it when my mom woke me up, so I was still half-asleep as she said it. But still, going through my head was that when I am eating cake I am having cake.   So I guess it comes down to definition. Because we can not have it be relative. (Aside from the fact that I do not see myself using the phrase.) But seriously, there are many e

Doctor Who Cosplay

I had an amazing opportunity this past weekend to costume play as The 10th Doctor at Katsucon 16. I am sooooo glad I accepted! (My hair should have been parted the other way, oh well. (I blame the mirror.) We did poof it up though--so we tried. Looked good.)   I'm The Doctor! "Allons-y!" Brilliant! (I mean this from the heart- and by the way, count those.) Initialisms

So this is interesting and something that everyone should learn but will probably forget:   I'm sure we are all familiar with acronyms: words that when each letter is broken down they each stand for something, like TARDIS, scuba, and radar.   But what I bet you didn't know is that terms compiled of letters standing for something but not sounded out, which you probably thought were acronyms, like FBI, HTML, and DFTBA (and BZP for that matter), are correctly called initialisms.*   Does it matter?

He's Mine! I Got Ackar!

Oh, and a Chrome Darth Vader. Maybe I should mention that too...   My LEGO Store (my usual one) was having an event today (Sat) for the new LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary that just came out. (There also happened to be a WAMALUG meeting today. ) At the store they were giving things away via SW trivia questions. Granted, it seemed to be mostly for little kids--I wasn't going to try to steal their thunder. (The various giveaway items were in a bag. Stick your hand in and feel around for wh

BŻƤ Mosaic: Tentative!

I know what you all are thinking: What is up with the mosaic project that was so awesome at last year's BrickFair?   It's coming, folks!   Just be patient, because Nukaya and I are swamped with homework. I guess it's a 3rd year thing.   HOWEVER, xccj, let it be known is now officially the third member of our team and not to be forgotten in the credits, is a master at the mosaic maker program (and touchups elsewhere) and has provided us with this image:   While that still needs a little wor

The Doctor Is In

I'm definitely becoming more and more obsessed with Doctor Who. It probably built up over winter break as I watched Series 3 and 4, and then obsessed over seeing The End of Time, and then there was the birthday cake and I'm following news for Smith's Series 1...   And I really hope I can get some Who merchandise at the anime convention in a few weeks. A poster, keychains, stickers. (And I should probably get a 9th/10th Doctor sonic screwdriver at some point in the near future, aside from it

I'm Making A Note Here

Y'know what's great about having a kitchen in your dorm? You get to cook stuff! I baked some cookies today--jelly centered thumbprint and chocolate chip ones, to be exact--and they were a huge success! Definitely something I'm going to do in the future, because who doesn't like cookies?!?! (Not my roommates and friends, I'll tell you that much! They thought they were great!) (Plus, I can give them to girl(s)... B) )   As for other cooking, I'm on dinner duty tonight for 3 of us. (Emote r

Nerf, Lightsabers

Talking with my roommates, I disclosed that I had never had a Nerf gun as a kid. Now, my roommates all have a few Mavericks in their possession, and one's brother has almost every one currently out. They're all talking of Nerf gun wars and whatnot.   So I should probably get one and not feel left out, right? Besides, college is the best time to do stuff like this.   So next semester my roommate will have to drive me to Toys R Us so I can pick up a Maverick for $11 and a bag of 36 bullets fo
