I got the 2010 Linux Bible from library earlier today. It came with a couple of discs so I decided to try live booting a couple different versions of Linux.
Both of the versions I tried seemed pretty nice. Everything worked right away, including my usb mouse, so that was a relief. It was pretty similar to the UNIX systems that I've been using at the university for Computer Science Lab, so the difference from Windows wasn't as shocking. I might consider ditching Windows 2000 for Linux at s
Wow, I was not expecting this. I guess I've been doing something right though. Otherwise Black Six probably never would have noticed me.
The promotion topic is very reveling however, since it looks like there are quite a few people who have never heard of me. I'm not surprised though, since I mainly hang out in LGD, which isn't the most active forum. I also have the lowest post count of any current staff member. I'm not sure it's the lowest at a promotion though, since there are a couple
Yesterday, I got some freezing rain. The roads got pretty slick, so it was nice not having to go anywhere.
It was still sprinkling a little bit when I went to class this morning. The main roads were pretty good, but any side streets were pretty icy. When I tried to turn into the alley where I park, I ened up sliding right past the turn. I stepped on the brakes with light pressure and the wheels instantly locked up, and I started sliding. I ended up going around to the other entrance, wh
Switched back to my old name now. It was a fun month with F=ma but it wasn't quite as good as Michigan J. Frog. I think I might switch up my font and post color though. I really like the font I was using for the last month.
I'll probably leave most of my stuff the same, except for maybe my avvy. I have some other ideas for name changes, but it will be a while before I change it again.
So as of last night parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin are in a high wind advisory. As of right now there is some wind where I live but it hasn't gotten too bad yet. It's raining though the weather really isn't that nice. It's just icky out.
I really wish I didn't have to work today.
My Eagle Board of Review was last night. The board talk to me for a while and then they voted. They unanimously approved. Now National just needs to approve it and it will be official. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. All three of the board members were really nice and they didn't really ask any really hard questions.
That's basically how my brain feels right now. I spent most of this afternoon trying to figure out how to complete 1 physics problem. I finally figured out how to do it, but it wasn't my text book that helped. It was this Physics book a friend gave my family, after they found it in a dumpster.
For some reason, the authors of my text book decided to leave out the algebra for the one example problem that would have helped me so they could have a question for the end of the chapter.
I'm going to go up to North Dakota State University to tour their school on Friday. I'm not sure if I'll end up going there next fall, but it is one of my top choices.
My other choice is the New Jersey Institute of Technology. I'm not sure if I'm going to go out there to tour it though.
I needed a change of pace from my previous name. So I made my new name Newton's Second Law of Motion. Hopefully I won't hate by the end of the thirty days.
I also have a new blog theme, and a new approval that will be going out shortly.
My Boy Scout council had their annual Fall Camporee this past weekend. It wasn't a council wide camporee though since the venue was changed from one of the council camps to a (much smaller) county park. It was a rather fun time. I got to be acting SPL for the weekend since no other older boys went. I also got to work with the Griffins patrol , which included myself and three first years.
We worked on the Signaling merit badge in the morning, and I also got to shoot a black power rifle. M
Why didn't someone try to talk me out of taking college level Physics?
I'll probably survive, but this is the first class that will probably take this much work. At least the rest of my classes are relatively easy. Yeah for having almost no time for BZPower and the internet in general.
I finally back from my trip to Washington DC and the 2010 National Scout Jamboree. I officially set foot on MN soil at about 12:30 pm central time yesterday. The whole trip was amazing. I have a few regrets about not doing some stuff, but really I couldn't have avoided it. I don't have time to do a full write up now, but I have a few things to say.
To those of you who were at the lunch kiosk at 12:30ish on Tuesday, I was also there, but I didn't see you. I still have some of my JSPs left
A couple of days ago there was a video on Yahoo's front page about a guy who built him self a tiny house, 8x12'. It looks somewhat cool. I'm thinking that might be something I'll do. Probably not that small though. It looked like his was built on a trailer. If I was to build one, it wouldn't be portable it would be permanent.
It would have a living floor, a sleeping loft, and basement. The basement because I'd really need one in case of bad weather. I'd also make it little bit bigger t
To quote my SPL, "The only thing I learned this weekend is that none of us are really ready for Jamboree."
Truthfully, I think that we're a little bit more prepared then that. I think my patrol is pretty decent. The first few meals that we cooked went okay, clean up was the worst part, although by the last meal we got that worked out somewhat.
I'm really wishing now that I had been elected to one of the leadership positions. I guess it doesn't matter though, since our leaders are as goo
One month left until the Jamboree. I think I have pretty everything I need, except the centennial socks. For some reason there seems to be a huge shortage of them. I have enough right now that I'll probably be able to manage if I can't get any more, but I would like to have a few more.
The precamp is also this weekend. It should go well as long as I can get everything packed up.
Comments have also been set to require manual approval for the time being.
Finished up Communications last night. Now all that's left is Family Life. That will be finished up as soon as my project is done. I'm staining the railings on the deck and it will probably take a couple weeks to get done. After that I'm done with everything.
Also, Pathfinding, I'm not sure if I'll get the other three historical merit badges. I know for a fact that I won't be getting signaler, I just don't have the time to learn the codes.
My family bought a new piano a little over a week ago. This one is a much needed acoustic piano, It will replace our eight year old electric Yamaha Clavinova.
The new piano is a Baldwin Upright. We got a pretty good deal on it, and even though it's about 15 years old it's in like new condition. It like it and it's a lot more fun to play then the electric piano we use to use. The only problem is it might be a little more difficult to record stuff.
The moniter for one of my family's computers died last night.
It happened sometime between when two of my brothers were using. My second youngest brother was having trouble getting it to work. My sister and I didn't want to help him, I wasn't feeling well and my sister didn't want to get off the other computer. My dad eventually went to look at and he couldn't get it to work so he restarted it and it still wouldn't work.
We grabbed the moniter from my computer, and hooked that up. A me
As much as an update to the signature guidelines was needed, I don't think this was the way to do it. 800x300 is way too much space. Most other forums don't allow sigs that big. We go from one of the most restrictive to one of the most relaxed.
Some people say that this "big image fad" will only last for about a month or so. I hope they're right. If it doesn't I may seriously consider hiding all sigs. When I get on my computer, Ad Block Pus will be getting the url of every large ban
Long over due, here's what my council's shoulder patch looks like. I'm taking over 100 of them so I will be doing a lot of trading. There's also a ghost version of it, although I probably won't be trading that since I'm only guaranteed one of them.
I'm also going to be a Hometown News Correspondent so I will have some perks, like the access to a bike and a computer. I may get the bzpower e-mail forwarder set up to my main e-mail. I don't want to just post it though since it uses my fu
Well, it's almost over. Thursday was the Conference Championship meet. For the first time ever I got to run in it. I really wasn't fast enough, but I had to run because we were missing all of our seniors. I'm not sure what the event planners were thinking, but they scheduled the meet the same day as my school's graduation.
My 800 time wasn't what I had wanted. I ended up with a 2:40. What really would have been nice would be having the order of my times flipped, so I could have run the
