Sense Of Accomplishment

Still undergoing some refinements, but that's basically it. The wings are left as sketches because they won't be outlined in the final colored version. How should I color it, winter or summer uniform?   So last night we went out to eat at Friday's. We were going to go to P.F. Chang's since my mom got a $50 giftcard for there from her boss for the holidays, but we don't eat out often so we didn't really plan ahead... we didn't make a reservation and when we got there it was an hour's wait. So in

Sense Of Accomplishment

I finished writing 52-Pickup the day before yesterday. 20 chapters and an epilogue. 176 pages in Microsoft Word (all default formatting) and 54,839 words.   I feel such a massive sense of accomplishment.   Oh yeah in related news, until yesterday I was off in the Washington D.C. area; visited a college, visited Loray Caverns, visited the National Museum of Natural History, looked at the cherry blossoms, etc. Rained on college visit and museum days, which is better than raining on the cherry bl

Science Olympiad Shirts

Today at our Science Olympiad meeting we got our shirts.   On the back, written in our school colors, it says, "We WINg it!"   It's pretty awesome.   Also, chapter 5 of 52-pickup is up.

Science Olympiad Regionals Tomorrow

I'm screwed.   Hopefully I can make up for my inevitable failure at Remote Sensing with my performance in science term pictionary.   Obligatory 52-pickup link.

Science League!

We got second. AGAIN.   So much stuff I didn't know... ooooooh...   I got twelve questions right. OUT OF 25.   And East Brunswick won AGAIN.   Our entire team absolutely despises East Brunswick.   *sigh*

Sci-fi "ahead Of Their Time"

No matter how "ahead of their time" a sci-fi author was (and I'm talking from at least twenty, thirty years back, any more recent doesn't count), it would seem that everybody underestimated computers.   Like I'm reading The Cat Who Walks Through Walls by Heinlein... no idea how old it is, but his main character harps on the amazing storage capacity of these data wafers that are a couple centimeters big. They can store around half a million words.   Let's give a generous estimate and say each w

School Is Ouuuuuuut!

Yes, yes it is.   Awesome.   So I've put my 3HP Cave Story run aside for now. Instead, genius that I am, I decided to start a NEW run, this time on 3HP AND minimal items.   I'm stuck on Monster X. Duh. Managed to get him down to where I could hurt him, ONCE, then got hit by a @*(&^!! fish missile. I hate those fish missiles. I have developed awesome skillz at killing masses of Gaudis without picking up experience, however. This is important because I like my blade Level 2. It damages fast

School Doodles

SO I'VE TRIED TO POST THIS BLOG ENTRY FOUR TIMES ALREADY, RIGHT?   Thank goodness for my ctrl-A ctrl-C habit... >>     So, school doodles... in more ways than one! Ahahaha... hah... that was a nice pun.   Okay, obviously that's not what I drew in my notes. That's a quick somewhat cleaner trace. This is what I drew in my notes. A bit counter-intuitive, but the parts where the lines are lighter are where I thought I did better on the original sketch; didn't require as much redrawing in

Schizophrenics Unite!

I have no idea if I spelled that correctly.   I just gotta make note of one of the oddest occurences that I've seen at least more than once here on BZP.   Say, a member called "BZP Person1" starts an art topic.   First post: BZP Person1 Hey, this is my drawing. [[image]]   Second post: BZP Person1 Wow, awesome drawing man!     Is this siblings sharing the same account or does this person honestly think he or she can fool someone into thinking the first person to post in their t

Sat Ii

TOMORROW.   I'll have to go to sleep at, like, nine or eight tonight. And have a large breakfast with lots of energy and protein. Eggs are good, I suppose. Maybe two tablespoons of sugar, too, just to keep me alert. And a caffeinated beverage.   Perhaps I'll keep a couple of Pixie Stix surreptitiously in my pocket during the exam. If I feel like conking out, I'll dump one down my throat.   Also, ENGLISH PROJECT.   Massive. And due Wednesday.   Or rather... PRESENTED Wednesday. WHICH IS EVEN

Sai

Just watched a video of someone drawing in SAI.   WANT.   -PRETTY VECTOR LINES AND FILLS. I cannot go on about this enough. -Flip, rotate, and zoom your drawing viewpoint, without ever changing the actual orientation of your canvas. -Exports to .psd. -Scratchpad. -Masking and clipping. -Starts up in seconds. -5 megabytes. FIVE. MEGABYTES. WHAAAAAT.

Rode Roller Coasters

Although being the coward I am I generally avoid any roller coasters taller than my house, today I went to Six Flags (Great Adventure) with a friend('s family) and ended up being forced onto most of the big coasters there.   As it turns out, they're not so bad! Also as it turns out, inversions are not what I'm afraid of (they're fun!), I just don't really like the huge drops (first drop of Nitro = OHMYGAWDOHYMYGAWDOHMYGAWD).   ... I wanna go on Batman again.   Oh yeah, Kingda Ka was closed (w

Robert

My sister made him.   He's awesome.   (those are his arms sticking up in the air. It might also be better if you imagine the big orange piece as being his mouth)   Oh, and while I'm blagging anyway, here's an excerpt from 52, chapter 3. Spoiler'd to save space. The context should explain itself. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «“Let this be a reminder to you!” he shouted, when he was already several stories off the ground. “The Toa are still here! And we won’t be giving up

Risky Advertising

Like that one ad just now with this guy on the phone talking about an aniversary or something and then it pans down and you see he's ironing a dress (his wife/girlfriend's?) and then there's romantic music in the background...   ... and it's a CAR commercial. What?   I mean, it's memorable, but I don't even remember which car it was advertising in the first place!   On that note, eight gold medals in a single Olympics. Unbelievable. Really lucky number 8 this time.

Ridiculously Complicated

I went to maximum zoom on Chrome and only then could I make out all the details on the last kanji there.   And I thought some of those Chinese characters were hard. I learned simplified Chinese. No such luck, so far as I can tell, kanji came from unsimplified.   How is it possible to remember that? How is it possible to write that on a sheet of lined paper? I mean, the "Suzumiya," fair enough, about on par with simplified Chinese. First half of "yuuutsu," okay, that's 15 strokes, but I've had

Ride Back

And now, if you will excuse me, I have a book report.   ...   Maybe I'll watch the chase scene one more time.   Oh yeah, Chapter 6.

Reverse Engrish

Can't link it here since it's a blog and will occasionally, casually use strong language... but I recently found something that's hilarious and relevant to my interests.   I'm sure everyone here knows about Engrish. Basically, people in other countries, usually Japan and China, botch English in horrible ways. Well, one ethnically Chinese blogger decided to turn the tables on that and point out the many stupid ways Westerners use East Asian languages. The blog has actually been going since 2004

Retainers

I hate retainers. I mean, yeah I guess it's much less noticeable than braces and stuff and at least it means I'm on the home stretch but wearing them 24/7 for a whole month stinks!   Oh did I mention I got my braces off? Well let me do it now then: I GOT MY BRACES OFF! =3   But anyway the thing about wearing retainers 24/7 except when eating is that you can't really snack unless you wanna take them out, eat your snack, rinse your mouth, rinse your retainers, and put them back in, which is just

Research

Don't you hate trying to find good information from a reliable source that you just know informally? Like, a lot of times it's the most obvious stuff, and that's why it's hardest to find: the "reliable sources" don't feel the need to state it directly anymore! And stuff that's mentioned often in the news and stuff-- they never put that stuff in the summaries or whatnot, all the sites are how to solve such and such problem, or how such and such problem should be blamed on so and so, but can't I g

Relocation Confusion

Text: Glasses, glasses, where are my glasses?   So this week the juniors have HSPA standardized testing (HAHAHAHA juniors sucks for you... okay obviously I had to take them last year and they're darned easy anyway, but...).   Anyway the entire annex except for a few classrooms was devoted to the HSPA rooms, right? So all the classes in the annex for the first half of the day had to be relocated.   Now, this shouldn't have affected me. First block today I have Global Studies which is in the ol

Relief!

My last application was mailed yesterday, tomorrow I turn in my last teacher recommendation thingy, and I'm free!   To celebrate, yesterday I (finally) opened my birthday present (yes, I know, more than a month late) from my parents. UCS TIE Advanced, awwww yeeeeah. Took me like four hours but it was lots of fun. The thing is huge. HUGE. And there's also a part that IMO was rather poorly designed because if you shake it too much part of the stand pokes through and the chair in the cockpit falls

Relative Time

I don't often post new art anymore. It's because as my patience increases I spend more time on each piece. I used to turn out a piece a day, but it was generally terrible. Now I turn out something if I get inspiration now and then and if I really think it came out well. It takes a lot longer, and often several sketches.   It's odd though. I post something decent hopefully once a month. And now people seem to think I'm someone new to the forum whenever I do. I get posts treating me like I just a

Recommended Reading

According to my record I've read 38 books outside of school since the beginning of the school year. I'm almost certain I've forgotten at least five off the list since I always forget to add at least the title before I return the books and I have to wrack my mind for what I've missed and I always get the nagging feeling that I haven't quite got them all.   Anyway, I read quite a lot. It makes the bus ride to and from school more interesting.   So running down the list, here are the books that r

Random New Stuff

Just to get it out of the way, chapter 3 of 52-pickup. In terms of my buffer zone, I've written up to partway through chapter 6, so I should be in good shape. Chapter 3 is probably my favorite chapter so far, though.   I'm going to visit my aunt over Christmas. Gonna be a long drive. My dad's bringing his laptop; hopefully that means I can work on the story some more. Would sure help pass the time.   Funny story, we have to write this report on a movie we watched in Global Studies class, right
