Away!

Off I go on winter break, the holidays of choice being the Winter Solstice and Christmas... Leaving HH alone with a munkey in Epics.   I should be able to drop in at some point, but I'll be back for real on New Year's Day. Hopefully bearing Barraki and Aquaraiders. See you then!   And Nocturn is completely and totally awesome in almost every possible way. Lime greeeeeen! Glow-in-the-dark blue! Whee! ~ ToM

Limits And Antics

We have officially begun dealing with limits in Advanced Algebra. This is awesome.   Meanwhile, we continue to read Ovid's Daedalus and Icarus. Cicero is easy after you get used to him; this is much harder, not least because it's in verse. But also much more fun. Whee!   The most entertaining part, however, was when we noticed a Freshman's purse sitting on a desk, and we got the idea for the entire Latin class to get up, walk out of the room, and go through the school until we located its owne

Aquamarine

I think Takadox is hypnotizing me.   I've been wanting his set more and more lately. Maybe it's because of his new armor color. Maybe it's the fact that dark blue and ice blue together look totally awesome lit from the back. It's even managed to overrule the black body and red thorns.   Ehlek is looking great, too. I love that new blended shade of green. I wish his whole set came in it. It looks like a swirl of teal and lime... (Thanks to Takua95 for the pictures!)   And I've even fallen for

Calamari

Yes. I finished CGing Kalmah. Go look (and I wouldn't mind if you posted); I'm quite fond of the result...   Other than that, I've had a thoroughly stressful week. At the moment I just want to go and find somewhere where people will leave me completely alone... Stop reminding me of things that if I could just forget, everything would be fine and I could stay happy... Thank goodness Christmas break starts next Friday; maybe then I can find some peace – and if I can't, I almost certainly will exp

Defilak And Company

Blue highlighter is now one of my favorite things.   In completely unrelated news, I posted my revamps of Defilak and Dekar a couple of days ago, featuring Dekar as an Onu-Matoran (I shall never give in!) armed with a shoulder-mounted Zamor launcher with a design I'm quite fond of...   I'm also busy CG-ing Enter Kalmah... I'm still not that great with textures, so this is partly practice for that. Exercise in lighting, too, since he's underwater... It's fun.   Christmas vacation starts next w

Water And Light

Music: Deck the Halls, Mannheim Steamroller Mood: Elated!   I am having an awesome week.   First and best, two days ago I finally broke through my writer's blook on Quest for Lost Dreams! I started revising all the dialogue to properly match the characters' MNOLG personalities, which somehow let ideas flow for the scene I'm currently writing, and so I'll be able to update and post a new chapter in a few days, hopefully!   Second, as I mentioned last entry, I acquired Defilak and Dekar, who a

... I Live.

Well. I haven't blogged in a while, the result of a combination of Thanksgiving break followed by an uncertainty as to what to actually blog about ... As to which two solutions came up today.   First in the order of business, the results for the SSC3 have been posted (since a week ago), so go check them out. Among the Honorable Mentions were Kay, <dd>, and Takatu...   Second, Thanksgiving was very delicious. My cousin's uncle (not sure what the term for that relation is), who is a chef,

Dekar's Identity Crisis

So, exactly what kind of a Matoran is Dekar, anyway?   Greg decreed that he is a Po-Matoran. However, Shop At Home originally listed him as an Onu-Matoran. But despite all corrections to the contrary, I much prefer him as an Onu-Matoran.   For one thing, Po- and Onu-Matoran have often been ambiguous. Tan and black were shared by the two in the MNOLG, with medium orange going to Onu-Koro (the Prospector, Azibo, and Nuparu, for example) and dark orange to Po-Koro (where dark orange was the trade

Cicero!

Yes! We are reading Cicero in Latin class.   To be specific, his defense of Milo in the trial over the murder of Clodius. It is immensely fun.   Dr. Jones, on how Milo plans to get out of this mess: "So, he hires the best lawyer in the history of the world." Leigh Ann and I, eyes narrowed: "Cicero."   Dr. Jones: "What if I were to just make you do the first sentence?" Lowell: *looks at the text* *strangled noise* "The first sentence is the entire paragraph!!"   And an awesome first sentenc

When In Rome ...

I have the most hilarious Latin class ever. And also probably the most quotable one, given our innumerable antics, both verbal and physical. For example:   Reading Hansel and Gretel in Latin (with numerous and hilarious intentional mistranslations): ...clamavit uxor e cubiculo excurrens. Leigh Ann: "...exclaimed the wife, running out of her cubicle."   "Feles mihi annuit!" Leigh Ann: "'My cat is calling to me!'"   Noverca excurrit et domum rediit. Me: "The stepmother ran away and went bac

Enter The Barraki

Now that we've had official pictures of the Barraki for a few days, I figured I'd post my opinions on them... After all, that is what a blog is for ...   Takadox – Possibly my least favorite. His elongated, thin construction makes him look very stretched, and his long head and thin tools accentuate that. (His Visorak-foot tail was unexpected, though...) He also has a very strange color scheme, with dark blue as a base mixed with ice blue joints, some covered by brighter, more teal-like blue arm

The Color Of Stone

If you're wondering about the title ... I shall be discussing it in a review of Hewkii, followed by thoughts on Carapar.   Toa Hewkii    :: Gallery ::   The first thing everyone noticed about Hewkii was his color. He's not dark orange; he's not tan; he's not even brown – he's iron grey and yellow-orange. I accepted the other Inika's color schemes – dark red and bright gold aren't far from red and yellow; white and ice blue are ideal for a Toa of Ice, although I miss sand blue; Hahli's swir

They'll Eat You Alive!

... Well, they would if there were more than one of them.   That's the problem with making MOCs of protodites: they always try to eat you ... At least if you're a Toa ... or anything from the Bionicle world, really ... *resists urge to stroke the protodite and runs in the opposite direction*   (I need to update this more often.) – ToM

Inferno

It should be noted that the word "inferno" originally had nothing to do with fire.   It comes from the Latin infernus, referring to something from below, which in the neuter plural form was used to mean the Underworld. It came to mean fire through Dante's Inferno, although I assume the title originally referred to the location and as a place for the dead.   So it should linguistically be Bionicle Legends 2 with the title Inferno, as Jaller and company pass through Karzahni, rather than BL5, wh

Elysium

I am so glad it's the weekend. I've been needing one since Monday. And when you need a weekend after Monday, you know it's going to be one of those weeks.   For example, yesterday I woke up thinking it was Saturday. I was so happy. Then I realized it was Thursday. The day went downhill from there. I survived by reading the entertaining quotes I write down in my planner, in addition to a bunch I have from last year.   My week has been far busier than usual, encompassing preparations fo Hallowee

Short Stories Contest 3!

Goodness, it's been a while since we've had one of these. Almost two years since the last one, not counting EpicFest. But meh. The theme is different from either of the previous SSCs, so ...   Go check it out!   – ToM

All Hallows' Eve

Double, double, toil and trouble, Fire burn and cauldron bubble ...   That's right – today is Halloween. And Macbeth is the obvious thing to quote. It's grey and windy up here, excellent Halloween weather, were it not for the fact that it might lead to rain. As it is, though, it's very haunting and foreboding. Maybe I'll finally finish my vampire story. Fitting night to do so.   I've been quite busy lately, hence my general absense from BZP – Friday was my school's Halloween dance, then I had

Linguistic Asides

I have decided to dub Takadox "Lucifer." The name is Latin, meaning "light-bearer," but is associated with evilness and malignance – and Takadox uses light, but is evil. Even further aside, Lucifer was a Roman mythological figure bearing a torch, associated with the morning star and the planet Venus, as the herald of dawn and so the bringer of light – the literal meaning of Lucifer, from lux, light, and ferre, to bring. Just to add more confusion by associating a male figure with a planet now be

The Medieval Torture Device

Yes.   We found out today that the copy room at my school has this enormous paper cutter ... christened by Henry "the Medieval torture device." And it really does look like one. It's big, black, and the paint is chipped and dented in places, not to mention the lethal-looking blade, which you push down on a handle to lower. During ninth period we discussed various things to cut with it, such as a Geometry book, fingers, necks, and Adam's midriff, although that we decided the latter two were too

Hewkii Victorious

The age-old question of four entries ago now has an answer: Toa Hewkii.   I still want Toa Nuparu about equally as I did him: both have aspects I want, and I need both for my revamp of Toa Jovan ... I want Nuparu for his claws, Kadin, and general black armor, but Hewkii's iron grey armor, aided and abetted by his chain, won me over. Expect a review and photo shoot of him soon ... during which I may rant about his proportion and identity problems, which I'm resisting the urge to go into now. Mai

Death By Frog

A rana necatus equus mortuus medico declaratus est.   Most entertaining Latin example sentence to date. I burst out laughing as Dr. Jones wrote it on the board (the original had the horse killing the frog, but we decided that made too much sense). Translation on request, but I'd love for someone to try it first ...   I really do need to make a language category. –ToM

The Red Death

"Ne me touchez pas! Je suis la Mort Rouge qui passe!" – Le Fantôme de l'Opéra, Gaston Leroux     No, this has nothing to do with Edgar Allan Poe. It's the Phantom of the Opera, disguised as the Red Death at the Opéra's masked ball ... Strictly from the book, hence why he has a skull for a head rather than the theatrical half-mask. Embroidered on the back of his cloak is the above quote – "Do not touch me! I am the Red Death passing [among you]!" He probably ought to be entirely red, but the

The P S A T Approaches

Yeah. I'm taking the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) tomorrow, although as a Sophomore it counts for absolutely nothing...   But still – is it supposed to be this easy? I just went through the practice test and I can't believe this is what I'll be sitting for next year. If the real thing is anything like the practice (which I think is the PSAT from two years ago...), it'll be really simple. The math took me about a few seconds for a lot of the problems, and ... well, I suppose I'm n

The Age-old Question ...

Sunday mornings are so relaxing ... Nothing for me to do but let my mind wander on the uncharted paths of MOCing, ponder vague plots, and dream up scenes and scenarios from the pieces strewn around my room ...   The object of today's wondering was Toa Jovan. I've always pictured him as dark blue against black, wearing a black Hau Metru, with no iron grey at all, actually. Today, however, I was staring at my small pile of iron parts, and I got the idea to rebuild his set form into something more
