Compounded Day 2

<dd> ain't so sad anymore.   That's 'cause <dd> got company.     In the morning, my twin sis came home, sick with fever and a raspy throat.   She conked out, but it did mean that I was no longer alone at home.     That meant we could compare and take our medicine together. 'Tis a pity I have to go back to poly tomorrow (and for a study-bug like me, that's a strange thing to hear from me), otherwise my sis may feel better and we can watch a DVD tomorrow or spoil our puppy Lucky ro

Golden Ring No. 33

Janus said it was some golden, or silver, bloggy, right?   It's very painful to say this, but after watching all my favourite blogs snatch up 'Blog of the Week' awards, I realised that probably Janus was probing my mind to see which favourite on my list would run away with the award.   Never expected it to be me, though.   Thanks to the other-blue-and-white-loving Janus for the award - (and the recognition that came with it! Naw.) - and giving me a heart attack after another tiring day at sc

Woes Of... Co Curricular Activities?

Most of the members here have an active role of some society made by the school, or at least supervised by the school or the community, which sounds interesting and fun. I don't mind the Scouts tales, and manga clubs, music clubs (oh, they're the most interesting).   I would not be lying that I am turning a bit green. With envy, not sickness.   I'm in a bit of a limbo right now, considering my co curricular activity to participate in during my time as a polytechnic student.   I had, at first,

Three Thousand Miles

And all the while, I've been going in circles and losing my focus...     The Black Parade filled my head. I apologize, but the view counter got me all excited! Three thousand views and counting! The numbers may seem small, but it made my tired day happy. (Tired - a day at school of note-taking, going out to assist friend in a dire shopping trip and help for assignments and weathering through a cacophanic thunderstorm, worrying about my poor dog that would be beyond petrification.)     And

Toying With The Idea

I'm toying with the idea to start replacing some of the hardware on my laptop, maybe even software if I feel like it.   Currently, my laptop is - to quote from friends - the slowest they've seen. They claim that even dragging the mouse across the screen showed a lag in the computer's speed.   I then started the disk cleaning, defragmentation, and moved surprisingly old and unused files to an external hard drive. I had cleared up the computer to get it from a meagre 7% to 22% free disk space.

I... Can...

Sing?   Me? Sing? No-siree and no way. I have a knack of going off-tune, flatting and sharpening keys and doing who-knows-what in breathing.   But, that doesn't seem to faze my classmates.   Lemme give the low-down.   I assisted my good buddy in her assignment to be the voice actress - making my voice go squeaky and 'cute', much like a plush animal talking. She would edit wherever necessary and produce it as her final product.     So I did. I had always played with my sisters with that anim

School Game On Restart

The Silent Eye

On my way home today, I encountered a most interesting, but heart-warming sight. There were four young students on the train, all with a caretaker, I believe. All of them were giggling and grinning, sometimes laughing a little. While their laughter was loud and rancorous, not a word was traded. They were sporting hearing aids, and their hands moved and articulated animatedly.   I finally understood.   One of them was suddenly distracted by something he saw. He stood up from his seat and da

It's The Yuletide Season

I don't really know the meaning of 'Yuletide', though.   Merry Christmas, everyone! My MacBook has been returned from repairs, though I still suspect a few things still need to be tweaked.   And now it's Christmas - on this side of the globe. And I have a small present count, but that's okay. And today, the cinemas released a movie that I reallyreallyreally wanna watch: Ip Man! Kung-fu fighting on Christmas!   Right, now's time for the Christmas church service. Hope that everyone has a goo

Have Too Much Free-time On Bzp?

Don't mind the sudden question, but the Epic Critic Club is in dire need of help. Permanent help, temporary help, any pair of willing eyes, hands and brains.   So, if you're interested, you can reply below and ask me, '<dd>, I wanna help. What can I do?'. If you can't, go ahead and make a note too I guess.   Popping quickly in and out. Hopefully will get some help somehow.   -<dd>

Who Is Toa Varian?

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «He's King Varian Wrynn from World of Warcraft! In Toa form!  Is it OK if you find characters with the same name, but in different realities/fandoms/worlds?   I personally think it's fine. Even the music industry finds it OK - google for a song called 'Call Me', or 'Heaven', or really generic titles. You'll find TONS. The industry says that, if you want to argue about copyright, it's that the idea of the song - melody, lyrics, arrangement - are

Eye-opener

He poked his friend's leg and pointed at the girl at the back of the classroom, just nearby.   "<dd>'s wearing a skirt!"       I don't know if it's a trend to pick on girls that finally come to acknowledge their gender or something, but it seemed to be the case for me.     I was a jean-dresser, and still am. It was the fact that I had been poked at by several classmates of similar gender to wear a skirt for graduation day - which is still lightyears away - and one had particularly state

Critic Rambling

Carefully treading around datapads strewn haphazardly across the metallic floor, the girl was trying her best to hurry over to the headquarter terminal of the room - which was at the opposite side of the room where she was and sitting prettily upon the long countertop which the curator kindly asked for upon the room's construction - which was quite a far way off.   Nearly crushing one datapad by accident, the girl peered around a stack of datapads that she was carrying.   Grief upon her, why d

Fashion Disaster

Laugh at me. Laugh!   Two days from working in a bank as a part time job (And under a japanese boss), and I find myself with two pairs of office pants (add a third if I can discreetly disguise it) but no work shirts.   And I just used up a good part of my savings today on a luxurious lunch of cream fettucine with mushrooms, italian soda and 2 wonderful dessert tapas - green tea ice cream and vanilla creme brulee, followed by a movie. (My good buddy burned her pocket with me, so I'm not going t

Geek Girl Mode!

My 5 year old MacBook Pro died on me in class - worst time to lose your files.   After getting a hard disk dock, torx and Phillips screwdrivers and spudger on speed delivery, I disassembled the MBP, got my HDD out, and cloned the disk to a new external hard disk.   I put the MBP back together successfully (mumbling to myself on what a fine job I did), brought it to the Apple Store and they took it away without much of a glance-over to check if anything looked fishy.   And now I got the gear

Farewell

As the wind drifts through the garden, Stroking the leaves and blades in tow They were waving at me, it seemed It was time for a farewell.   A place of familiarity, a place of warmth A place of solace on the swing in lamplight Quiet and privacy offered everyday From dawn to dusk, and back to daylight   It all would fade away And the family would have to move Abandon their home For a less greener pasture   But I know one day, New soil brings new blades The trees will leaf once more

Electone Exam: How It Went

The electone exam was a disaster in the making.   If there was any time Murphy’s Law could have kicked in, it was in the exam. It always happened to me, every time I step into the exam room, I get a nervous breakdown of some sort.   Old mistakes disappeared, but new mistakes would occur. Scales that were perfect would fumble to a halt. Sight-reading, it was a mess from the start and would still be. It was exacerbated when the sight-reading score was hand-written with fat notes that I could not

Autumn Leaves

It's time to take a break from all the schoolwork, because fall is here! And I've never seen fall before, at least in its presence. I may have written about it a long time ago, but it's so much better to be there and experiencing it in person.   (Note: I made the pictures tiny, because I worried about bandwidth.)       Welcome to the Boston Common. This is Boston's biggest park, and the trees were just starting to turn red and yellow. This is a late fall, but still fall nonetheless. And

Critic Burnout

Today, I think my brain burned out, and totally melted to protodermis. Unrefined, half-solid half-fluid silvery liquid of Bionicle life.   It was in the middle of a review I had to do. Note: had to. It was no 'must', but I had to stand in defence for my fellow critics when a member 'demanded' about the review that was not done.   We don't ask for good clients. We ask for ALL clients.   And so I was reviewing the work, re-reading the epic to check again and again to see if my points were vali

I Blew It.

Guys, I blew it.   I killed my microwave!   It started with a burning cookie. I managed to warm it up the last time till it was soft and chewy, I still have no idea why that cookie smoked so much. I smelt the burning smell, turned around, and saw smoke in my dorm room.   Cursing and swearing, I turned the timer off, opened the microwave (to more smoke), and disposed the cookie down the toilet bowl (attached bathroom, neh). I stuffed my jackets in the door gap to keep the smoke in so no one wo

Chew On It

This was one of my submissions to the polytechnic writing competition. I think this writing did not bag a prize, but it was fun to write it. I'm putting it up so you guys can nibble on something fun instead of my incessant grumbling.   On a better note, I've reviewed more epics in the ECC, just before school starts tomorrow. Hopefully, other critics can help while I'm at school. And most annoyingly, the last term was going to last only three weeks, and lunge into three more months of holidays.

Never Eye To Eye

I'm terribly moody in this recent period of time. Been thinking about a recent event that happened in the household of Kevin's that is related to my own.   His grandmother is in her last stages of lung cancer, like my own, but... her family isn't doing much good about it.   While my grandmother underwent treated care, his grandmother opted for pallative care. That's all right by me -   But when I heard that the family had dragged her out of her bedroom and made her stay in the unventilated l

A Virtual Tribute

We all have heard, not too long ago (factually on September the 4th) of a really tragic occurrence.   Animal hero Steve Irwin passed away in an accident with a stingray.   Now, no one can blame either party: Steve's incident is being scanned by the authority, and the animal was just trying to protect itself, even if it was hardly provoked. I was going to muse that it was an angsty femme that just wanted alone time and along came the Crocodile Hunter.   Well, this post goes out to Steve-fans l

Random Rant

Right now, I’m dealing with (and I do mean dealing with) my short story ‘Autumn Leaves’ right now, sprucing it up after adding length and content to it, by recommendation of the writing club. They want to chop that bit of lit (short for ‘literature’) into fine, tiny-tiny pieces and inspect how to write a short story.   It feels so good to be a role model.   In fact, the cruel irony to me is that music was given to me by others; scale after scale and note after note, and any piece I wanted to

Busybusybusy

Recently, I've been given a whole lot more responsibilities, tasks and the sort. A lot more than I bargained for, really.   I'm now part of a Student Portal Conceptual Design committee in the polytechnic, or the school in the polytechnic. I don't know how the teachers picked me to represent DMAT, but here I am. The Creative Writer's Club gave me a bit of news: It's not really a club, it's really an informal gathering - for now. Decisions are being made whether it would be a club or not. It s
