Ortographobia

I am now Ortographobia, or the fear of spelling mistakes. I thought it'd be fitting since I work as a copy editor half the week.   So, I want all of you to do your very best to spell correctly in the next 45 days. I'll be trying my hardest not to freak out at every mistake you end up making anyway.   Wait...   This is the internet.   What have I gotten myself into?   OH GOD THEY'RE EVEYWHERE.

Or maybe BronyCon after all

Why? Well, on top of the fact that it might not be the best use of my money (since BrickFair will itself be plenty of fun, and I've already PAID for five days of that), a new expense has recently shown up on my radar. That being... Pokémon: Symphonic Evolutions! That's right: the Pokémon Facebook page just announced an orchestral concert featuring music from the Pokémon series. I had a great time at The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses two years ago, and this concert will be premiering

One day left to vote in Caveat Scriptor!

Have you voted in Caveat Scriptor yet? If not, drop everything you're doing and go vote. Right now. There's only one day left and so far only 16 people have voted; and I know there's far more than 16 active members here. Currently, my entry, The Lego Movie: Primetime Pitch, is in second place by a small margin. You don't have to vote for it! But I would feel MUCH better, whether I win or lose, if more people voted in the contest whatsoever. If I lose when only 16 people have voted, I'll have to

On the Bionicle Story Ending with Makuta's Victory

How can ANYONE say in good conscience that the Bionicle story should have ended with the villain victorious and all hope extinguished? It would be the ultimate disrespect to the rest of the story, undermining every single lesson the Bionicle story ever tried to teach.   Yes, not all stories have happy endings. But endings, happy or unhappy, should MEAN something. Ending Bionicle with despair would have zero meaning, being "edgy" and "dark" but also "terrible" and "idiotic".   Sometimes I think p

On "Lego is Lying" theories

Earlier I replied to a post in S&T about Bionicle G1 and G2 being connected, despite Lego saying it's a reboot. That point has been refuted a thousand times, but it got me thinking about the big problem with those sorts of theories in the first place.   In science, one of the essential qualities that a theory can have is that it's falsifiable. What that means is that the theory is constructed in such a way that it can be proven demonstrably false by new evidence. Falsifiability is an essenti

Okay, Okay!

Chocolate Frogs has finally convinced me to stop being lazy and get to my blog. So here I am. And I'm reminded of how much work I have to do for it.   See, I haven't been very active on BZP. It was just yesterday that I realized that I got my one-year Vahi. BEFORE MY LAST ENTRY.   So I need to revamp my blog, with a theme other than my failed story. I've got a coupla ideas like...   Cow Planet (A Sandra Boynton themed blog, no? Wish I could find some good pictures....) Surreal Life (My not-s

New Lego Movie Fanfiction?

So, I was thinking about writing another, longer, slightly-more-serious Lego Movie fanfiction (after my Comedies Contest entry from earlier this year). And I was bored, and all of a sudden I found that I'd written about two pages worth. Thought I'd post it here to see what people think of it and get a second opinion on whether I should keep going with it. It's tentatively titled "The Courting of Princess Unikitty".         So, what does everyone think? Continue Y/N?

Need Help!

Does anyone have a paperback copy of Silver on the Tree by Susan Cooper, published by Simon & Schuster? 'Cause in my copy, page 25 was left blank, and if someone could provide a scan or something, I'd REALLY like to know what happens between pages 24 and 26.   EDIT: Never mind, I checked out a copy from the library that DID have the missing page. So... problem solved.

Name Change?

I'm considering changing my name to a phobia like the staff. But is it too late to jump on the bandwagon? I've been mulling over a name change for some time; so after 45 days of a phobia name you'd probably just see me as Lyichir. That'd help keep people from wondering what a Rachira is, and keep me from having to direct them to the aborted epic that is an old shame of mine.   So, name change. Yes or no?

My New Look

My blog's new name and look is from the Mike Oldfield album The Songs of Distant Earth. This album is in turn based on the works of Arthur C. Clarke, most specifically the book The Songs of Distant Earth.   So any of you who were wondering can rest easy now.     In addition, I don't like it as my blog theme either. I will probably change it at some point to being a less themed, more personal blog, or a blog themed after a story of mine called Surreal Life. Don't count on the second one, though

My Korra Finale Thoughts

First and foremost, a spoiler-free review: IT WAS AWESOME. It was a fitting end to the series and certainly approached the greatness of the A:TLA finale even if it didn't necessarily match it.   Now, to the spoilery bits, sorted for your viewing convenience.   Story       Execution       Shipping       So yeah. I was extremely satisfied with the finale as a whole. Mike and Bryan don't seem intent on returning to the Avatar universe right away, but that's okay—I'll be glad to see whatever they mi

My Caveat Scriptor Entry

So I read about the Caveat Scriptor contest BZPower was running in the comedies subforum. And I, a person who mostly avoids the comedies subforum, thought to myself, "Ah, this sounds like the kind of thing I could actually enter." So I did. You can read my entry, The Lego Movie: Primetime Pitch, here. Now for this blog entry to get buried under 2013 retrospectives!

My brother Aanchir's posts

I just wanted to take a moment to show my appreciation for the posts of my twin brother.   To some people, he's known as a color master. To some, he's a MOCist. But to a lot of people, he's the guy who makes really long posts.   He does this for a reason. Both of us have Aspergers Syndrome. Both of us have struggled with communication all our lives. Not in terms of actually being able to communicate; we were both speaking and reading at an early age, unlike some people we've met with more severe

My Bionicle 2015 figure!

Alright, since a lot of folks have shown interest, I took some quick pictures of the figure I built at the Lego Store building event at Comic Con. Once I get home I can get better pictures, including pictures of his individual parts, but for now what I have is going to have to do.   Front Back Close-up on the gearbox (for those who were interested)   Any questions? I have a long train trip ahead of me this afternoon so I'll be all ears!

Movies and Mad Loot

So yesterday after watching an AMAZING episode of My Little Pony, Aanchir, Meiko and I went up to Potomac Mills to see Catching Fire before it left theaters for good. As I expected, it was excellent. And as a bonus, we got to visit the Lego store! My haul was as follows:   70803 Cloud Cuckoo Palace 70724 NinjaCopter President Business Collectible Minifigure Emmet Poster, Wyldstyle Poster (which I missed last week), and Benny Poster Build-a-Mini Pick-a-Brick Cup (including, among other things, mo

Movie!

Aanchir and I went and watched The Golden Compass yesterday with a couple of friends. If you want my opinion, I say it's definitely worth watching. I only read the book (and its two sequels) at the beginning of this week, but that in no way lessened my liking of the movie. It managed to stay relatively true to the book while glancing over some of the touchy religious subjects and rearranging things to better fit it to the medium of film. In addition, the acting was good and the characters we

Move Along

I just FINALLY remembered to listen to it on my laptop. What a freaking awesome song. The lyrics are great, and the music is spot on.   Geez, what do I have to post to get replies around here? If my blogging needs work, PM me tips or something. Don't leave me hanging like this.

More About Me And Rachira

Look at this as a continuation to my first entry.   So, why Rachira? I thought up the name Rachira, and all of their personal names, last year in an old story about a Toa of shadows. They were going to be dragon-like spirits that served the Shadowed One. I scrapped the idea, since they were nothing but something for the Toa to fight. I gave up on the story.   Meanwhile, school had gotten harder, and less fun. All of these problems were just "facts of life", things that I couldn't change.

Metru Nui Online Game

While I was a fan of Bionicle for its entire lifespan, I was often disappointed by its video games. There was obviously one exception—the original Mata Nui Online Game, which I feel was the best tool Lego ever used for establishing a world for a new line of sets. Later settings lacked any such vehicle for immersive world-building, and I think they suffered for it.   If I could program in Flash (or anything else, for that matter), I'd love to create a "Metru Nui Online Game" based on the original

Lyichir's New Blog!

Well, I recently became a premier member (for life), so now I have my own blog. I've never done this before, so here it goes.   'Ahem'   My name, or username at least, is Lyichir: Rachira of Influence. A Rachira is a being from a Bionicle story that I plan to write. They are beings of great power, so great that they each one has control over a different aspect of reality. They are:   Lyichir: Rachira of Influence Aanchir: Rachira of Time Gruchir: Rachira of Matter Zheichir: Rachira of E

Lego Sale At Tuesday Morning

Today. Our dad's going to try and pick out some Bionicle and Exo-Force sets we missed last year. (That's what I expect they'll have, as last time they had a sale like this was last year, and they had '06 sets then.)   EDIT: Well, they didn't have much Bionicle, but Dad DID bring in quite a haul! He got the Batcave set, a Ferrari set, the Battank set, and the MOBILE DEVASTATOR! Wootcakes!
