Seriously

Okay, I made an entry to poke fun at a show and it turned into a big old "my place is better than your place" thing that really didn't feel very much in good nature at all. Seriously, I'm disappointed with the lot. But I should've known better. Won't happen again. Go complain somewhere else.

Series 8 Minifigs

Hey, it's that time again. I heard internet rumors that series 8 figs were popping up in stores around the US, so I checked out my local Fred Meyers where I can usually get some good deals. And they had four boxes! Woot! (Actually, it sounded like they had 10+ as of a few days ago, but now they're down to four. There's a rabid AFOL crowd around here, I guess.) I helped some less-obsessive-than-me people find some of the figs they wanted (specifically, a fairy) and then I looked for some of

Series 8 Collectible Minifigures Review

(Click for news post)   Whew, did it again. Collectible Minifigure review. All 16. This time with more pictures too per fig... added some "group" shots with each one comparing it to a similiar fig. Lots of writing to make this happen. Lots of picture taking, picture editing, ext. (Thank goodness I learned some of the batch features in photoshop, would've been a pain to each one individually instead of the whole group automatically.) Also, a good bit of coding too.   But yeah, there's Seri

Series 7

Yay, Series 7 figs are availible in Fred Meyers! So I I swung by and grabbed some. I used a 10% off coupon, but it still turned out to be kinda pricey to buy eleven... and I'm still aiming to get at least five more. There were four boxes on display, but they were already fairly picked through.   Anyway, I got the Rocker Girl, the Bride, the Viking Woman, the Jungle Boy, the Aztec Warrior, the DareDevil, the Bagpiper, the Ocean King, the Grandma Visitor, the Swimming Champion, and the Evil K

Series 4 Minifigures

Series 4 started hitting the shelves last week. I managed to get my hands on a few already. I have been quite shocked at their massive availability, especially after the rush to get Series 3, and the first two series didn't even show up in the store I frequent. But this time there were boxes upon boxes on the shelves. Okay, so I've seen two boxes each at two different stores, but they've hardly been picked through, so I'm guessing the massive collectors must've carried off a few other boxes

Series 3 Minifigs

I am sorry to report that I have contracted an illness... one with no cure. And it is spreading over the Pacific Northwest, and I hear people are already showing symptoms in the rest of the country. I am talking about the release of the third wave of collectable minifigures.   The discovery was quite a shock. I noticed that a few of these were popping up for sale in various places, so I investigated, hoping to see clearer pictures of the sets. To my surprise, most of these sales were comi

Series 11 Collectible Minifigures Reviews

So I posted a short review of some of these figs a month ago, but that entry has been lost. So instead of trying to find and repost it, I'm just going to rewrite it, and include the rest of the series, since I just finished my collection. (Won't be as comprehensive as a front page review, but whatev.) I'll order em basically in the order I picked them up.       Gingerbread Man   Such a cool idea. Good frosting printings on arms, legs, and torso, and the "Dunk Me" cup is great. The head is the m

Senior Projects

No, no, I thought I had it tough having to complete an Eagle Project (you know, if I wanted to achieve Eagle rank) But now my high school is making me repeat the whole thing over again with a new project. Sure, it's less physically intense this time, but it still requires a whole bunch of actual "thinking" and time to crank it out. A couple of notes on it.   1) The project keeps changing. It was originally the writing and / or filming of some sort of fiction. Then it turned into a filming

Secret Service Dentists

Yet another day where I can't think of something funny to post that is my own handiwork.   More Monty Python.   Secret Service Dentists   Er... oh!   Good morning, I'd like to buy a book please.   Oh, well I'm afraid we don't have any.   I'm sorry?   We don't have any books. We're fresh out of them. Good morning.   What are all these?   All what? Oh! All these, ah ah ha ha. Your referring to these... books.   Yes.   They're um... they're all sold. Good morning.   What all of

Second Verses

In many songs, the second verses always seem to be a best. Here's a compilation...   The fading light is cold on the shoulders of the trees For the star wind blows right through me and I've never felt so free There has to be a crossroad; a place to draw the line It came down to the question: Is this life I'm living mine?   ...   There a piece of you that's here with me It's everywhere I go, its everything I see. When I sleep I dream and it gets me by I can make believe that you're here

Second Is The Best...

Not in the prelim polls, though, but it's good enough for me. 20 votes over all, 19 other people who liked the MOC over all others, and me. Not bad.   I have noticed an increase in votes for my creations in the last few contests I've entered. So instead of getting hardly noticed, I end up trailing behind first place, but with a lot more votes than previous contests. Maybe I'm getting to be a better MOCist, maybe the competition is slacking off (probably not) but I'm feeling better about my

Sdrawkcab Ratava

This is an entry about the new Avatar movie... I just wanted to make the title more original.   Anyway, excelent movie. Great effects, good story, nice action sequences, ext. I heard some complaints about the movie, but I didn't feel that the characters were bland, the action boring, or the people too blue. (Wait...) I would compare it to Fern Gully, especially some of the glow in the dark sequences, but it was far more mature. And the flying bits were AWESOME!   One thing that bugged m

SDCC Exclusives

The funny thing is I didn't go to the event at all! In fact, the entire time I was in my office at work because, y'know, weekend shift and all.     So these are the two SDCC Exclusives I was able to get ahold of. Sam Wilson Captain America was actually a win from Lego's Twitter raffle, which was very cool! (Like yeah, I tried reporting more on that for a reason.) I wasn't the only winner... I think they gave out 10 each of the figs and the masks over Twitter, but still a little mind boggling th

Scratches

In other recent Apple news, my iPod got its first major scratches.   I've had the thing for over two years now, and I've been plenty rough on it, so I'm not sure what the turning point way, but now it has two large gorges on the screen that will make viewing videos rather rough. (Although I rarely watch videos on it, to be sure. Mostly do so when I'm on long bus rides)   So, yeah, is very sad. Too bad the thing still works perfectly... or at least well enough. Not an excuse to get a new

Scientific Inquiry

Observation: Boy, it sure has rained a lot lately.   Connection: It also rained a lot in the beginning of the movie “The Day After Tomorrow”, right before the freak snow hurricane that flash-froze the northern hemisphere.   Inference: Since its rained a lot lately, it can only be a prologue to a giant snowstorm that’s the effect of Global Warming which will bring freezing cold air down out of the upper atmosphere and turn us all into human popsicles.   Conclusion: Better type up this Blog ent

Sci Fi Christmas Story Stats

You know, the one for the COT Christmas Short Story Contest? I've had it outlined for a while, but I decided to start writing it tonight. But there wasn't a part where I could stop writing, and I just kept typing away until I came to the conclusion. I still need to edit it slightly, but right now it's at 12 pages in MS Word with over 6,500 words. So yeah, it'll be a long one. But I felt that I covered all the major themes that I wanted, and the flow feels nice to me, so hopefully it won't b

School Starts Again!

Yep, I'm back in my last year of High School, and I'm not wimping out either. True, I am getting a late start for the first semester (so I can sleep in), but that's to make up for the Zaro Period I took last year (Where I had to get up earlier than normal! ARG!)   Classes are interesting. My AP Government and AP English classes are particularly scary from the workload they're predicting. I can handle Government, but I'm not looking forward to English. Calculus was interesting... before the

School Movie Project

Oh, I knew this was going to happen. I tried to avoid it, but it happened nonetheless...   So for my online diversity class, we were given a big group project. My group decided to do a short, informative movie on domestic violence. Funny thing, none of them knew how to make movies except for me. So I volunteered to make the movie in the end.   Now it's the end. The thing is due in two days. And my group really dragged their feet since we got this project three months ago. They were supp

Scenes For The Con

The theme for BrickCon this year is "Tales of the Bricks" where your MOCs should be telling stories. So on my first day off-ish in the last month, I got to turning some of these ideas in my head to Lego MOCs. And now to show them off!   A couple of obvious choices to bring are my SeaDuck airplane and xkcd Laser Cat models. I'm sure those have been shown before, so let's move onto some of the newer stuff.     Okay, this one isn't really new... it's been to BrickCon 2009 and BrickFair 2010.

Scary Statistic

So I just ran a list of all the sets I've bought in the last two years (in which I've also attended 3 conventions). Then I entered in all their store prices and calculated just how much merchandise I actually bought.   It came out to be around $900.   Of course, I am not taking into consideration the different sets I got on sale, since I usually only bought something when there was some sort of deal on it. BUT, I'm also not taking into consideration online brick purchases, which I didn't s

Sats

How fun is it to wake up early in the morning, shove yourself in a classroom and take a brutal exam for four hours straight. Not only that... you pay for it too! Yep, the great fun of taking the SAT tests... apparently you need 'em for college or something.   Can't say anything about the actual test... secrecy and stuff. If you think they go overboard with the SAT, they go crazy with secrecy on all the Advanced Placement Tests in May... This was my second time taking it, and it wasn't so b
