It may be next-gen, but that doesn't mean it doesn't fall under the DS brand (similarly to how the Game Boy Advance falls under the Game Boy brand). I don't see any problem with it being mentioned in the Official DS topic, it's not like it's way too cluttered to have discussions about both generations.

Because it isn't? The GBA SP (heck, even the Micro) wasn't a new handheld, it was an improved version of the regular GBA. The 3DS is the same thing. It's still primarily the same software, the same style, and mostly the same handheld, just updated to set a new standard for the market.

Actually; you're referring to the DSi there. =P The 3DS is more akin to the transition from GBC to the GBA. For one, it's not 'primarily still the same software'... Everything got a boost between consoles; especially in graphics power.

But; until someone makes a 3DS topic, or gives clearance for one; it goes in the DS topic I guess. =/

Natch, I said software, didn't I? Meant hardware.

But yeah, from GBC to GBA was a huge transition, because it was utilizing a brand new style of games and processing. For the 3DS, it's using the same hardware, just with tweaks to, as I said, set a new standard. It's much more akin to the PS3 upgrading to a slimmer model than, say, the upgrade from PS2 to PS3.

I'm not suggesting that we remove the DS topic, just that we make a 3DS topic for the 3DS, rather than incorrectly using the DS one.

The 3DS is to the DS what the GBC is to the GB. Note how they both share two letters, and how they have the same style. But the GBC has a new kind of screen! I'd consider the GBC to be a next-gen console, a significant improvement, to the GB. I wouldn't bunch it together.

The 3DS' hardware is far superior to the DS's, and the OS is completely different. It runs a different kind of game card. It's in no way (except by name and style) the same. It's next-gen.
