A Short Essay On The Basics Of Swordplay

Kevin Owens

I've had staff close two of blog topics. One of the staff was a BZP admin. I have to be setting some sort of record here. :P

Anyway, in this blog entry I've decided to write about something that irks me as much as the art critics of BZPower and something I can't get write angry about and not get staff attention. That something is the enormous amount of fallacies made during sword play. Now I don't mind if you deviate a little from reality, but if I see you breaking almost every single rule of reality, you're going to earn my hate.

Anyway, three things that you should avoid during sword play.

The Giant Sword Fallacy

or The Buster Sword Fallacy

Thou shalt not have giant swords during swordplay. The bigger the sword is, the harder it is to swing. The harder a sword is to swing, the slower you can swing it. Buster sword being swung around like it was nothing=false.

The Armor Penetration Fallacy

or My armor, it does nothing!

If thy opponent is armored, thy sword shalt not penetrate said armor upon thy first blow. Armor tends to be made up of steel or iron which is what most swords are made up of. Generally, swords don't instantly puncture armor. However, a rapier is capable of going strait through chain mail. However, that is the only exception

The Decapitation Fallacy

or How did you just cut off my arm?

Thou shalt not cut off thy opponents ligaments with just one blow. Ax men don't cut down oaks with their hatchets. Just don't do it.

Exception one: Chainsaws. Granted its not a clean one stroke just a few seconds of pressure.

I'll probably update this when I think of more.

Correction on numero three.

Japanese Katana can decapitate or dismember with ease, hence why it's referred to as one of the deadliest weapons ever. Ever.
