adding a darker backround and shading would improve it IMO

There's already some shading in the background, but I'm making it darker and better shaded, and the same for the text.

And no-one translated my binary. I spent ages on that!

Nah; shading would take away from the effect. =P

Instead, the numbers should simply be removed in certain situations; creating effectively an outline of the letters, which you could have a shadow added to the places where the letters need, say gaps. Like the middle section of an A.
