Its basically the same as braces except you can take them out. And if you don't wear a retainer your teeth will shift back in place. I don't think that (here, at least) the retainer has to be worn again after the braces -- once you've got the braces off, that's it. Also yeah, you get to wear a retainer AGAIN, for the rest of your life. As long as you don't lie to yourself, it's fine. Feel free to accept it as an awful thing that happened.
