the problem of looking younger than your age

Guess what it is. Right, being treated that way.

I mean, when friends or family do it it's okay, because I know I often act like a 15-year old (thankfully my intellectual age is a bit higher, but still :P I'm silly and I know it. ><)

But if strangers do so, it makes me furious. Especially when it's other 15- or 16-year-olds that treat me like one of them. As in, name-calling and getting on my nerves when all I want to do is doodle something while on the bus. I mean, hellooo? Do I really look like I want to get called "Emo" all over and over again? <_< Sheesh.

After all, I'll be 19 in April. It's so odd. D:

And of course now a part of me is scared that it will still go on like this for the next 5 years or something. :/

I don't really think your'e emo. Well that picture on the left sorta creeps me out. But I'm 11 (gonna be 12 on December) and I act like a 6 year old. I like acting like young people. It reminds me of the old days.

I remember when I first started growing my hair long in high school and everyone was calling me emo. It was like they've never seen a guy with long hair before and that somehow automatically made me emo.

Ah, the 14-16 year-olds were always so annoying in my school. I'm glad I don't have to deal with them in university anymore, and you have my sympathies that you still do.

Thank you. And what does the picture to the left have to do with emo-ness?! xD

But yeah, I get what you mean. In my case though, the problem is not that I want to act like that, but in fact I simply do so. Seems like I still have quite some growing up to do... :/

Gargh, sorry to hear that. D:

But true, somehow it's always that different = emo. <_< In my case it was just wearing black stuff...

thanks.

Sadly, I don't think my solution of growing a beard will help here. :P

Dangit. ><

Eh, as someone in their mid-20s, all teenagers look and act the same. Sorry. :(

(I'm kidding, I promise. But in all honesty, there's not a huge span of differences when it comes to mental and emotional development between most teenagers. The parts of the brain responsible for reining in emotions and rationalizing behaviour and emotions doesn't develop, on average, until 21 or 22 in most people. [Which, as an aside, is why you'll see people graduate from college and almost suddenly they are like "wow, I feel so much more capable or mature than I did in college and high school, and so much more ready for so many big life movements.] Of course, there's a development path, and at 19 you are further along than a 15 year old, on average, but the difference is probably not as great as it seems. Science!)

Im sorry to hear that. It sucks when you can hear people taking the *&%^ behind your back. Whenever it happens to me, I just stare them down. I dont know if its dead look from my false eye, the psychopathic look from my remaining one or a mixture of the two but it generally gets them to pipe down. If all else fails, violence is normally the way to go :D

In all seriousness though, you get it whatever age you are. You get dumbs wherever you are in life and you just have to find your own way of dealing with 'em.

Im sorry to hear that Taka, but just remember "Youre better than them" :)

This was something several of my friends and I dealt with until we hit 22 or so. Like DeeVee said, development is mostly to blame. Many people consider a 19-year-old to be an adult, but honestly we don't reach our peak in developing mentally and physically until like 30 (sometimes a little sooner, sometimes a little later, but yeah.) It's a pretty long journey.

Um. Maybe because of that eyeball in her mouth?

Dont get me wrong. I get your point, but making fun of someone isn't do do with immaturity(well it is but) its to do with common decency. Age should have nothing to do with it if you know the difference between right and wrong and in my experience, that comes very early in life.

My behaviour just shifts, sometimes I act younger than my age, sometimes I act my age, other times I act older. :shrugs:

Apparently I look older than 14, though, with people assuming that I'm at least 15, which is okay seeing as I'm almost 15 as-is but when people think I'm older again for some reason it actually bothers me a bit. :P

You have stated before that you aren't emo or goth to my knowledge, and that you just like wearing black, so I know for a fact that you aren't emo. You are just someone who loves black and drawing stuff that you draw.

I get the exact opposite, instead of people thinking I'm younger, they think I'm older when I'm actually 15 (almost 16 in a few days), mainly because of my hight and voice, and especially when you compare me to my older, but shorter sister.

On the phone, I've been mistaken for my own dad XD.

But just don't worry about it, just shrug it off and turn the other cheek
