Last Forever

Blue Fire

So the final episode of How I Met You Mother aired tonight.

Everything was set up perfectly, and was executed perfectly.

But then I had to watch beyond the meeting at the train station. I had to watch Ted get over Robin, only to go back to her.

I loved this series, up until the last three minutes. Barney finally growing up, brought a tear to my eye. Everything afterwords just got me angry.

I want to hear your thoughts: what did you think of the finale?

Well,

When they foreshadowed the mother`s death a few episodes ago, my family and I pretty much called it. We were soooo upset initally when we figured that out because we waited so many seasons to meet this woman, and then she dies? Come on! Ted deserves a bit better than that.

But, then the ending came and... well... I actually thought it was fitting. If things had gone a little differently and he had ended up with Robin earlier, he never would have had two kids, he would`ve been in an unfulfilled relationship and he would have regretted his decisions and they would`ve broken up much like Robin and Barney did.

What I didn`t like about this series is how Ted kept trying to get over Robin. It got real old real fast, and they didn`t need to go anywhere near as personal or as in-depth as they did.

As for Ted and Tracy waiting seven years and two kids later to finally get married... the irony of the situation just made me smile.

I did like how Barney ended up, though I wish we could`ve had a glimpse into his and 31`s relationship- whether they got hitched or never pursued a relationship might have given a bit more closure to his story in my opinion. Then again, leaving it ambiguous might have been for the best.

Marshall and Lily over the years seemed pretty sweet. His career story and her being a mother seemed fitting with their characters.

It was sad when they all drifted apart, though, and Robin especially. It really packed a punch where you just thought "oh my gosh, this really is the end."

They really did execute the finale well. The snippets into the future were a very nice touch and the overall ending fit Ted`s romantic character and it seemed sweet. The overall story was about a single dad asking for his kid`s approval to move on and find happiness with an old flame. Aside from being introduced to a character who was later killed off, it was sweet and I didn`t see it coming. Not only that, but that romantic vibe was something I seriously missed from this show for quite a few seasons now. Ted was this great romantic- the guy who stole the blue french horn. Then he turned into... well, I don`t know what, but it sure as Karz wasn`t anywhere near as sweet or hopeful. But it didn`t feel real, either. I thought that with the mother in they`d show him being spontaneous or sweet, but it never really beat his initial relationship with Robin, and ending it on that note just reminded me of why I fell in love with these characters to begin with.

I'm still digesting it - nothing happened how I had expected or hoped.

By I think I like how it ended.

More than anything, I think I'm just sad that it's finally over. The finale was unexpected in some parts, but better than I'd hoped in others.
