Conflict
Everyone go read Pomegranate's blog entry.
I've been thinking along those same lines. In a way, I get where all the negativity comes from; the fact is, this is a community of mostly adults, and wherever there are a bunch of adults there will almost always be conflict. The fact that this is a forum about a children's toy is irrelevant. But at the same time, adults should know how to handle that conflict when it arises in a mature and effective way. Conflict is natural, but when it turns into drama, we have a problem.
Back in 2011 or thereabouts, I entered into what are commonly referred to as my dark ages (from the Brothers' Brick: "That period in a LEGO fan’s life when he or she sets aside LEGO in favor of school, dating, motor vehicles, and other non-LEGO pursuits.") A few months ago, I returned to LEGO and BZP and found my favourite community a different place than when I left it. Geez, I can't even leave you people alone for a few years...
I've managed to avoid seeing most of the drama that occurs on BZP, let alone get involved in it. I probably couldn't even tell you which topic or even sub-forum it's in if you asked me. I intend to keep it that way. I'll stick to blogs and B/S/T, where people can have rational discussions and talk about Bionicle without being ridiculed and having their opinions trashed.
