Back in 2006 when I was ten years old, it wasn't that long ago I had finally got to see Mask of Light. Which is the first bonkle film, about the search for the seventh Toa, Takanuva, Toa of Light and later Shadow but then just Light again. How the Avohkii transformed Takua into Takanuva stuck with me.

So when 2006 rolled around and the Mask of Life was a thing the Piraka were searching for, as were the Toa Inika, I did the thing that seemed logical at the time: I thought that one of the Voya Nui Matoran would find the Mask of Life, put it on, and become VEZON, PIRAKA OF LIFE. I was thinking that it'd totally be Piruk because I liked green sets the best at the time.

Then, of course, it didn't happen like that and I got upset because I wanted to know where Vezon came from. WHO WAS HE AND WHAT MATORAN WAS HE?!?!? I clearly didn't understand what Skakdi were. Then it was revealed Vezon was part of Vezok once, so I thought that when Vezok put on the mask of life, he and Vezon would become one.

Then 2007 happened and the Ignika decided it wanted to go diving. I was thinking that Dekar would put on the mask and become... HYDRAXILOS AND SPINOCTUNKA. No, not really. I did briefly wonder at the time why there wasn't a Gadunka + Hydraxon + Maxilos combiner like there had been with that kind of set for the past three years.

Also, here's a little blast from the past for some of you: Remember when people were theorising that Toa Ignika was Matoro?

No, I remember when people were theorizing that Gali was Takanuva cause they had the same eye color. :P

Vezon's origins were kinda lame, now that I think about it. :shrugs:

I don't remember the theorizing that Toa Ignika was Matoro, but I do think there were some very deliberate similarities. It was actually kind of a touching aspect of the Ignika's storyline—it had bonded so tightly with Matoro that it wanted to experience being a Toa itself, and it modeled its own appearance after the Toa it knew best.

Later, of course, Toa Mata Nui took design cues from Toa Ignika.

Okay, someone is going to have to help out my stupid self: Where are these deilberate similarities between Toa Matoro and Ignika? I see none in the models (Mahri or Inika form), except for the shoulder pads being the same.

Also I don't remeber those "Toa Matoro = Toa Ignika" theories either. But I also don't recall being that active on the forums during that time, either, so maybe that's why.

I don't remember that, but I do remember that when we found out that 2009 would have only one character returning from previous years, there were dozens of theories about how Matoro was gonna get reincarnated on Bara Magna somehow.

plus, there was that ad at the back of the Lego Magizine that totally had Matoro Inika on it

like, it could have been nothing else at all

14-15 year old me still can't forgive Lego for that

Ah yes, the ad with Matoro Inika and the Giant Vahki Leg in a desert.

That image pretty much didn't really convey anything about 2009. It looked a lot more like ruins at the time and that character was a wanderer of the wastes, it seemed.
