Species: Human

Series: Fire Emblem

First Appearance: Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade (GBA, 2002)

Favourite Appearance: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Wii U, 2014)

Party: 1st

Known For: Bringing Fire Emblem to everywhere not called "Japan", only appearing internationally in the Super Smash Bros. series (outside of a DLC cameo in Fire Emblem: Awakening), being a Marth clone

Excitement Factor: 9/10 - I went back to Melee last year and had a lot of fun with Roy... and now the fun can continue! Thanks to the changes made to Marth since Melee (as well as some modifications to Roy himself), he's no longer quite as much of a clone as he used to be. That said, it would be nice if he was 100% clone-free.

So, what is different between Roy and Marth?

I'm not entirely certain, although Roy's final smash acts differently, and his regular b is completely different as well (Marth stabs, Roy swings his sword in an arc). Roy's sword does more damage closer to the hilt versus Marth dealing more damage at the tip.

The are physics differences between the two as well but I don't know all the details there.

I know he differs from Lucina on the upB, as he hits multiple times and can be directed slightly, while Lucina only hits once and flings the target back. His up smash can deal multiple hits as well, Lucinas is a single hit.

I'm assuming this is all the same as Marth but I don't play Math.

As far as I can tell the rest are pretty much the same except Roy has fire.

Roy has faster dashing and falling speed as well.

Also, in this game, a lot of his animations were diverged from Marth's, such as most of his attacks being executed in a reverse grip. His down air is also way similar to Ike's now, and Flare Blade keeps the overhead swing instead of turning into a straight stab like Marth's Shield Breaker.

Honestly, out of all the DLC characters, I both perform best with and enjoy Roy the most. I think it's his sweetspot being a lot closer to the hilt that encourages a more aggressive playstyle, which I love.

(Btw Blade, that match where you chose Roy Koopaling? Very funny =P)
