Inika

Onuki

Well, after seeing the Inika up-close (thanks to Darnz and ToM! ^_^), I've decided that they really don't look all that bad. They're just another set of Bionicle sets. And I only have one problem with them -- the head. Light-up or not, those things are neon-green blobs. And they used those same neon-green blobs for all of the Inika. Those neon-green blobs do not fit in with the rest of their color schemes. They look awful, IMO.

That is all.

Oh wait -- in other news, I have a lot to update the Spam Museum with, so if you don't see your contribution there yet, don't worry -- it'll be up in time. :)

Finally I get a good enough reason to reply to this awesome poll :). Because I guess that it's the Inika Toa head you don't like, not the Kanohi. The Kanohi is what covers the green blob up (and thus shows less of the green blob, so it should be the best part of the set, no?). Also, I have to agree that the heads aren't that good. It does spoil the color scheme. If they would've made different color heads, things would've been much better--in the other hand, that would've probably increased the price.

And woah, Onuki, you have such an interesting blog! No wonder you got the Blog of the week award :). The spam library was fun--and scary.

Personally, I think the Inika are some pretty cool sets.

*Puts on teacher's hat.* Remember class, a Kanohi is a mask, not the head that's underneath the mask. ;)

Also, I agree that the heads really stand out on some of the Toa, like Matoro, for example. Lime-green on a white Toa? But, I'm probably one of the few, if there are others at all, that thinks the blobs themselves are awesome pieces. I don't know why, but I just like the mixture of lime and white (which is quite ironic, as I said that the piece doesn't look good on a white Toa), and you can use them for a lot of stuff, like shoulder armor or bug eyes. :D Of course, I don't have an Inika myself, so I didn't experience them first hand...yet.

Lol, I must have misread the review, because the first time I read it, I got the impression that the blob was the Kanohi. :D I figured that LEGO must have been redefining the meaning of Kanohi, and making the face just a head, like on the Piraka... hey, they changed lots of other things, so it made sense to me.

But you're right, it's the head that I don't like -- but also the discord created by the blending of the head and the Kanohi. Seeing that blob stick out around the Kanohi just doesn't look right.

And you know what else, all of the Toa's eyes are the same color too. :o

I dunno, the "majority" seems satisfied with a slight price increase in order to have the light-up stuff, so why not add on just a little more so that the heads would match the Toa? It wouldn't be as much of an increase as for the light-up stuff anyway.

Glad you like my blog! ^_^

See above for my confusion with the head. :P I think I just put the text that was above the picture in Darnzerf's review with that picture, instead of matching it up with the text below -- the result was that it seemed like the green blob was apparently the new Kanohi. LEGO certainly hasn't been afraid to change stuff of late, so it clicked. Thanks for making it clear which was which on the Inika (I know which is which on any other Toa :P).

They certainly might look cool on a MOC of that color... but it's hard to imagine such a MOC when that color is so... weird. o_O It reminds me of some kind of greenish sludge or something. That's probably the other reason that I don't like it.

Yep, the heads look weird. I can picture Jaller's face once he turns into a Toa... :P

But the Kanohi covers up almost the whole head, so who cares? :P Only the eyes looks freaky. Yes, green eyes in a white Toa...

I JUST got and built a Toa Hewkii set -- my first Toa Inika. He's awesome!! The green blob of a head does take away from the awesomeness, but it's not really that bad. All-in-all, I think the Toa Inika are awesome sets, even moreso after I built my own. Although, I did lose 1 of Hewkii's Zamor sphere's already.

I don't really like them either. The new head are just so...un-head like. Especially when you look at them from the back, it looks like their heads are hollow.

Then again, I'm also not part of the majority that likes the price change for the light of parts. Although the light up stuff is cool (especially the pictures I've seen of the swords lit up in complete darkness), I don't think it's worth the extra dollar. Since I don't have a lot of money, I'm going to have to be really choosy about which ones I can get since I know I can't get them all (and I really wanted Umbra later in the year).

Although now that I think about it, it would be kind of cool to make a sludge MOC...

Personally, I haven't been following Bionicle for a long time. The storyline is interesting, but I don't know, I just can't connect with it like I use to; the Piraka are still cool, but the Inika have kind of lost me; interesting but not in the way the Toa olda or the Rahkshi were.

You know, I really felt the same way until I opened up one of the recent Bionicle comics that I got in the mail... and you know, I was surprised to find that the story seemed to be told in just the same fashion as it was back in 2001. It seemed almost normal. So I don't think I've lost all hope of getting back into it yet... although I should certainly renew my subscription to LEGO Magazine some time soon...

That's the problem; I have had no subscription to LEGO magazine, so I'm really behind on the story; though I remember GF mentioning some awesome story related things.
