Curry Flavour

If you could guess, on a tiny island, anybody would know anybody.

I met with my parent's good old friend who orginated from UK, but now lived in US (Boston). But, he used to live in the country and he and my parents would have extreme eating sessions.

He liked curry fish head.

So did I.

So, when he finally returned to this country of office, my mother whisked him to eat one of his favourite dishes. Wouldn't you know it, I followed along to - to see if this friend of my mother's is worth to curry flavour with.

Ignore the pun.

So, we three walked into a teeming Indian eatery famed for its curry fish head, and when we sat down three banana leaves were placed on the table, and we ordered our drinks.

It was interesting to see this business (most likely a family-run business) operate. Someone would come with the sauce and vegetable mixes, pour it on your banana leaf. Nasi brani - fried yellow rice - followed soon after, and chicken curry was added to the rice. A basket of Indian crisps was nearby just in case the guests were peckish. We sampled the sauce and veggies with these crisps, and then the curry-mixed rice.

If you weren't an Indian, I'd pity you for the good food you were missing.

But, you had to eat with your hands - or rather, your right hand. You all should know of this habit of culture, so need I say more? I was very sloppy, however. I have never eaten rice with my hand before, so my fingers were slicked in tumeric-infused scent and oil.

When the curry fish head came, I was surprised. There was a problem.

How was I to eat squishy, slick fish meat with my hand?

I tried wrapping it with rice, but the rice dropped off, so I had to handle hot fish.

My mum and her foreign friend, however, were eating and tucking away at a much faster rate as I.

To top it all off, I was breaking into a sweat because of the curry. I managed to survive the first fifteen minutes. After that, my mouth turned into a sweltering stove and I was wiping off sweat with my napkin.

But it was worth it.

The food was good.
