1. Depends how they work. If you angle them down and they produce enough exhaust, they're basically just a stylized jetpack. 1. Out of nothing but fire? No. They would dissipate in an instant. The only way they would work is if the wings are not entirely fire, and some non-flammable/non-consumable substance(and no such thing exists).

2. Yes; Ever heard of deer? They tend to use them quite practically, and permanent mistakes are very few. Also elk. One swing from an elk's antler can knock the breath out of you.
