I don't know how well it works, but I do know Wii U pro controllers don't always work right.

I haven't gotten a DS3 controller to work with Steam, though I use it with various PS1 and N64 emulators. In my experience the best thing to do is to keep it wired. Also make sure buttons are mapped right?

It's a 3rd party wired controller for PS2/3, so that's not an issue. I can get it working in big picture but as soon as I open a game it's like the thing doesn't exist. I've seen some things that are supposed to work but none of them do.
