Shh, don't reveal my secret identity. person who posts too many blog entries and should probably wait more than a day to allow people to respond to them like it's not against the rules or anything but it just doesn't seem in the spirit of the blogs but then who am I to tell you how to live your life it's a free country just you kind of water down the whole process by doing it so frequently. I had a much longer reply but the comment system ate my comment so I'll keep it succinct. Also, apparently bullet points don't work so I had to resort to numbers, which look more threatening. I apologize. 1. I'm sorry if I'm bringing down the spirit of the blogging section of the site, that was not my intention. 2. The reason for it being daily is because I'm used to doing thing daily. My "history" on the site, so to speak, is in comics where daily comics = good. Asking a question takes considerably less time than making a comic so it makes it easier to do this process daily. 3. I don't expect anyone to even answer the questions, I also am not waiting for a certain amount of people to answer or specific people to. I address this in an earlier question where I don't ask a question that I can't answer myself. Some people simply don't have an answer to a question and some people miss the question whether on purpose or not. I've never found it an issue whether a question gets less replies since the question is archived and they can always answer it if they feel the desire to. I sometimes get replies to questions I've asked days before which may be from people who simply have never checked out my blog or are new to the site or have simply missed some questions. 4. I don't exactly view my "blog" as being a traditional blog at all. This is evident by the fact that I don't discuss my personal life too much, the only things I ever comment on is my person. I view it instead as an open forum, a place where I can simply ask questions that people have the option to answer or not. 5. I enjoy learning about people, which is the obvious source as to why I ask the questions. Sometimes I learn things that otherwise wouldn't be self evident through strict comment sections on the forums alone. Sometimes these people have something they wish to say but they don't have a place to express it because they aren't premier for instance. I view this as a place for people to not only talk about themselves but also to learn more about themselves, who they are as a person. 6. I've considered putting in the title, "Daily Question:" but the reason I have not is because it would limit the amount of space to put the actual question in the title. I could put it at the top of the posts if that may help address the issue. 7. I can see a correlation between my blog entries and for example, a youtube channel. You may enjoy a channel for its series that it produces but not all of them. If you're subscribed to them you may not enjoy seeing something you don't wish to see, you get overloaded with videos essentially. You have the option on youtube to unsubscribe though whereas in this blog section of the site you do not. There isn't a clear way (that I know) of restricting the viewing or placement of a blog entry. This then means that the decision is based around the people who reply to this (as I'm not too concerned). If the majority wishes for me to not post daily questions then I can go every-other-day, every 2 days, bi-weekly, weekly or whatever. 8. Don't worry about expressing your opinion on what I'm doing as that's exactly what this is all about. If I didn't want to hear people's opinions I wouldn't ask questions and I wouldn't post it to a public forum. 9. Also, don't worry. I trust you with the spirit of the blog since your name is SPIRIT after all. person who posts too many blog entries and should probably wait more than a day to allow people to respond to them like it's not against the rules or anything but it just doesn't seem in the spirit of the blogs but then who am I to tell you how to live your life it's a free country just you kind of water down the whole process by doing it so frequently. He might also do it so frequently because he has no idea how long he's gonna be here but what do I know it's not like he said anything about it in public on his status feed that anyone can look at. This is also correct though I don't expect most people to know that. cool dude. big chicken. chiiip chip chip chip chiip. Sounds like I'm a couch potato. Chip, chip, chip, chip, chip. SPIRIT Posted September 1, 2016 I guess my main issue is that the blogs are programmed differently to the forums. In the forums, if you have a topic (for instance a comic topic), posts from the author as well as comments from fans both serve equally to bump up the topic. Because of this, the more popular topics stay at the top of the list regardless of how frequently the author posts. The blogs don't work like that. Blogs list everything by latest entry. Posting daily entries just makes it look like you're bumping up your own blog just to get attention. I understand that this may not your intention, but that is not the impression you give off. Another issue with the blogs is that once you post a new entry, it's a bit more effort to view the previous ones. Most of the time, even though it's like 2 extra clicks, people just aren't going to do it. If you are trying to foster some sort of discussion, you are going to have to leave your blog entry up for a day or two. This lets people answer the questions and then check back later to see if/how others responded to what they said. Quality, not quantity. Quote

If you are trying to foster some sort of discussion, you are going to have to leave your blog entry up for a day or two. This lets people answer the questions and then check back later to see if/how others responded to what they said. Quality, not quantity. I would say that that's a fair way to see things. The difference between the way how blogs and forums are run is a bit of an issue to me as well as it would definitely promote more discussion if it were to be handled in a way similar to the forums. At the same time though, it's very... Silly. I understand what you're saying about promoting discussion but from what I've seen in this particular section... Discussion is very rare, if at all. Perhaps your experience is different than most members, but there isn't a lot of discussion to be had. I'm wondering if it's because there are other facets of the site which are more suited towards it or maybe it's that certain topics or entries that people try to discuss are not relatable. You see this a lot where in the COT portion of the site, there's various topics there suited towards a specific interest. From topics ranging from anime and video games to musics of various kinds. I don't really promote discussion or discourage it, it's not a major concern to me. The concept of the question is that it's not supposed to discourage people from answering it in any way. See it like this: Let's say I ask a question of, "What is your favorite color and why?" It's a simple question. My favorite color is blue. Why? I don't know. Do I want to spend several minutes of my day wondering about why I have an inclination to the color blue above all other colors, what concepts of this particular color that drive me to prefer it over all else, how it relates to myself or my feelings or my life? Some people will say yes and some people will say no. Those that say yes may not have the time and those that say no may have plenty of time or the other way around. The point though is that what this question has done is it has isolated some people with the little inclusion of the word, "why?" Sometimes, people don't have an answer to why, there's nothing to discuss regarding it. Now this question is one that of course can't harbor too much discussion while others can. If I were to ask, "What's your favorite movie and why?" then there's a good chance that people can harbor discussion surrounding it. Though it didn't discourage the issue with the other question too. People don't have time, which is something I realized in one of the earlier entries. Some people simply go to the blogs for something quick to read, something to catch up on and to give a quick reply if they feel the need to. Others go for actual discussion. If every issue were black and white, it would be an easy fix, though it's not. I enjoy discussion, I find it interesting. You can see this in most of my posts on the forums. Unless it's for some kind of game where quick replies are needed, most of my comments are paragraphs long, filled with details, answers and questions. It's not that I discourage discussion, it's that I've discovered it's difficult to maintain with people for reasons they may not have control over or otherwise. I try to be considerate about the situations of others, which is the reason why certain decisions are made. It's why I frame certain topics in specific ways, why I leave feedback in ways to improve a person's creation instead of simple "i like it good work" comments, changes to how my own creations are run to improve the reader's experiences, etc. How I run the blog isn't any different. Sometimes people want to just stop to think about something simple, which is what this blog does. It's simple questions that can be given simple answers. Would I prefer longer answers? Absolutely, I love seeing the reasons why a person thinks one thing or another. Do I expect it? No. I think it really boils down to the fact that there are better outlets for people who want to discuss certain things as I pointed out earlier. It's best to remember the point I made before: I don't enjoy talking about myself. I don't run my blog talking about how I had an issue at the super market, or if I think college textbooks are overpriced, or if anyone else would like to join me at some convention. I try to leave as little information about myself as possible, I don't use Facebook or Instagram or whatever else because I like to keep my life private. The only reason I even bother answering my own questions I ask is because it's a little rude to expect others to answer them and not answer it yourself. I can understand your point about quality versus quantity and I agree, though that isn't really the point of this blog. The point of it is to have something interesting to read at the end of the day, something to learn about the members of this site. It does seem odd to me though that this blog seems to be impeding upon the discussion of others, it frankly makes little sense. If it were completely overtaking the entirety of the 1st page of blogs then I would understand that, but it takes up the spot of 1 out of 19 available spots (not counting the rules). If it were not me then it would be someone else who would take up that 1 out of 19. It makes me wonder if my blog posts were something like, "Daily Science Discoveries: Discuss!" and I posted the latest scientific findings if it would somehow be better (Don't worry, I don't have the time for that). It is a bit silly though in my opinion. I can absolutely understand your annoyance with the way how the blogs work, especially in regards to how I handle my particular blog. If I were able to handle it in a way similar to the forums then I would, though I don't necessarily have that option (from what I can tell). Sorry for the inconvenience. ~Soran 2 Quote
