Good Bloggers

You are expecting a list aren't you? Well, you won't get one. You'll get something better. :P

A few days ago I was thinking about this in relation to BZP. Then a friend came to me and was disappointed so I gave him my advice. I added more than what I told him though.

Good bloggers are those who don't give up despite not getting what to them seems like no attention. Comments and ratings are great ways to give feedback, this feedback helps people improve. Comments allow people to discuss the subject. Not everyone has an opinion on it, so please don't expect everyone to comment. Therefore, if you want people to comment a little more, I have some tips. :)

One of the best ways to start having a good blog is to make it look neat. If you use basic grammar your blog can go far. One thing that I think holds some blogs back is they don't use any good grammar. And those blogs have had good content, but if a blog is a pain to read, most people won't read it. This step is one of the most important.

The other big thing I can give some advice on is content. If a each entry is about the same thing, it gets boring. Mix it up! Whether you want to have an insane blog or a more serious blog is your choice. Then there are the blogs that fall in the middle. I try to keep my blog somewhere in the middle, I have the crazy entries, I have the normal entries, and I have the serious entries.

I have seen many blogs, both good and bad, and I've seen many bloggers who haven't given up despite not getting comments. I've seen some fantastic blogs that don't get many comments, and those blogs have entries that vary. The best thing to do is get peoples attention, get them to read a few entries, and they will return.

And I've seen that happen. Unpopular blogs gain some popularity.

So, for those of you out there who don't have popular blogs, don't give up. In time, your blog will gain popularity.

Now that I think about it, before I became staff, not many people knew who I was. So, I attracted readers, and gained some popularity. Heck I won a Blog of the Week, that really surprised me. Look where I am now, I get to help people more than I could back then.. So I do know what it is like to have an unpopular blog, but I found things that people commented on. Remember, don't give up.

It would also be good to note grabbing the readers attention, an example of this is the fact that Omi is leaving BZPower. Farewell, Omi. (Also, this entry is not about Omi.) :P

I guess I should stop whining about my job if I want my blog to stay popular. XD

Seriously, awesome advice! I've always tried to abide by these "guidelines" (if you will), but thought of them as habits or tendencies. :P So it was nice to be assured by this.

I think that statement is some what exaggerate, I mean if you think about it, there a lot of blogs on Bzpower (Especially during Bzp's birthday.) and not everyone going to read them. Some could be ignore by people for they personally don't know the author or out of laziness, they don't want read it.

But beside that point, all of what you say I think was right. So, I guess it good that I didn't give up on my blog through I wouldn't say it is that interesting, since I hardly get any posts. Oh, well. I guess it just that they don't have an opinion to express on what I am talking about as you say in this entry.

But some people don't have any Picture programming skills (Like me, I only got MS Paint and I can't do anything with it without make things look bad.). Unless you mean word-wise in the blog, this won't really apply much to the people with that disadvantage like me.

Lolz, my blog isn't very popular, but I don't mind. ^_^ I believe mine falls into the serious category. xD

You've got a nice variety in your content that makes people return.

My content is a bit one sided. xD

I think some advice from one of my profs about fiction would help here:

Two universal rules of fiction blog entries:

1) Must be clear.

2) Must be interesting.

By "interesting", I would say "fun". Serious can be fun -- if it's interesting. If that makes any sense. :P

That's how I look at it too. Content is always the major stumbling block -- and in my blog I have some serious entries, many very relevant to Bionicle, etc. and then I have comedy, whatnot. I also shy away from "My Boring Life" entries, because there's so many lives and readers can only take so much of it before they do "Dude, I don't care. Make me laugh."

Yes, that's very important. My blog started out highly ranked and getting a lot of comments, so not sure if this is totally a great example -- but for a while I just sort of let it die, and it moved way down the rankings and I barely got comments. But as a reporter, I know that frequent updates are vital. For BZP news, we have a rule that unless absolutely impossible, there must be a news article posted every single day, if not more than one. Doesn't mean blogs need something every day, but it should at least be once a week.

That lets readers know your blog is worth keeping track of (or your news site), because something new is going to happen often.

I'd keep these in mind if my blog wasn't already as awesome as I am. B)

...which is not very. So I'll make an entry about it. >_>

The main point really wasn't including BZP's birthday, as around that time things are a little hectic in the blogs. Even with the position of Blog Assistant it would have been impossible to read all of the blogs. And now with 1000 blogs, going through all is pretty much impossible for one person. Even if most are inactive.

Your blog is one that I read whenever I see a new entry.

I don't have good skills, but there are plenty of shops. Heck I even have some friends on BZP who I ask to make things. Even though I only have MS Paint I still find images.

Heh, even blogs that are one-sided can be quite good. There are always exceptions.
