Project Nuva :: Gali Mistika Prototype

ToM Dracone

Here we go again... ToyFair's come around, real pictures have been produced (I saw the leaked ones earlier), and in some respects I was pleased, in others disappointed. Mainly, the leaked picture of Gali made her look fairly cool (though not Gali-like), but in reality she has the annoying reversed Piraka chest and her mask looks, in the words of Janus and Toro, perfect for a Dark Hunter but dreadful for Gali. The leaked pictures also showed Tahu being quite distinctly normal red, but no, he can't even have that...

Anyway, I'll go into everything in a later entry, once pictures emerge from more angles – preferably from the public exposition, because the preview night always has awkward poses and still has the prototype plastics, and often missing pieces as well. This entry is to show a general design for how I'd do Gali Mistika – it's not final, since I may decide to incorporate a few other features from the set (I want to see her back armor), but the overall shape won't change:

If you can't read my messy handwriting (few people can), some of the annotations are:

– A mask similar to Tanma's, but with a visor.

– Inika-length arms (using the 7-long double-sockets) to reflect the long arms she had as a Toa Nuva.

– For her tool, I thought a spear might work well; it would be reasonably similar to her axes... Then this evolved into a blade made from two pieces (both the same mold, though), which the shaft-axle would go through, so I could stick a lightsaber blade at the end of it.

– ...and her cartoony-looking blaster-thing is the most likely part of her to be further adorned.

She would, of course, use the same Nuva armor as the Phantoka had. I've come up with a working redesign of it, but haven't yet been able to properly draw it – I'll post that some time later, too.

What say you?

Yay, yay I say. This all gives a fair impression, save for one thing; the chest armour. The entire concept scheme overall seems plausible, but even in a perfect world, Lego would not stick the Nuva chest armour on her. It's too small, and would not fit.

If that's an Inika chest armour, I apologize for my lack of ability to discern one from the other >_>

See, THAT'S a Gali that would make me happy inside. Bravo, ToM.

I don't get the blades-on-the-head part for her current 2008 design. I thought we lost that back in '04 with Krahka. ><

That is an excellent drawing, and it would make an even more excellent set. You're right, Tanma's mask would look so much better on Gali. I wonder why it is that Lego refuses to make the Newva look anything like the original Nuva. It's like they just came up with sets and stuck the old names on them.

I would KILL for a Gali set like this. You have to draw the rest of the redesigned Nuva.

I wonder if Heir of the Chronicler (the guy who made that custom Olisi) could make something like this...

Perhaps you can shed light on this...

How come that Gali looks awesome, whereas the set designers, who are paid to do it, create something that looks awful?

In honest fact...

... yes, I could make something like this :-D

Perhaps ToM Dracone would consider a set design/set production team up, hmmm?

Edit: Oop! Double comment, please delete.

Augh, I deleted the other one, apparently while you were editing this. Really sorry. :lookaround: Do you remember what you posted...?

Nope. I'll just read the entry and make another comment...

I like this more than the Lego Gali... she makes me kind of sad, though not as sad as she makes most people.

This would be full of WIN and awesome if it were a set. Go get a job at Lego, I say unto thee once more.

Wow, when I saw this on Brickshelf, the first thing I thought was "only ToM can make something like this". Wonderful work, as always. :)

I plan to heavily modify the Toa Nuva too, at least Tahu and Gali. Tahu would benefit, I think, from a Jaller Mahri-style body. Gali can use an old design of mine which looks feminine enough. The problem is, though I do like the idea to use Tanma's mask on her, the design I have in mind wouldn't work with said mask. Onua needs to be bulkier and needs a weapon. Ehlek claws should do the trick...

Excellent design ToM. Very, very nicely done.

Here is something that may irk you though, Look at the new Takanuva... his mask specifically. See how it resembles the old MoL? Why couldn't LEGO have done that with the rest of the Kanohi this year?

Just something I noticed... and it drives me bonkers >>

I, Too, saw this on B-Shelf, and thought "This has to be ToM's work".

Beautiful work on the sketch, excellent limb proportion, and nice rework of the weapon. I was kinda puzzled by her official one. Too bad the pieces used to make the sketch don't exist, at least a lot of them, such as the awesome mask.

I see what you mean about the Kanohi, LORDs tekneon, it left me very confused why they didn't give the Newva's kanohi any resemblance...

ToM, another thing I noticed in the sketch, although I'm not sure if you meant to do it, was that you designed a less wide Inika torso, so that's a big plus for Gali...

I'm starting to realize how much I don't like Gali Mistika. :(

She barely even has a weapon aside from the launcher, just a weird little scope thing...

LOVE the drawing! As said in some messages to you, this could become a reality. I've been working on a Blue Tanma mask w/ visor and Mata-tru torsos.

ToM.. you have to get in the LEGO business..

i mean, how cool is this? modified Nuva armor, Inika armor, silver inika limbs(like, the new one), silver Metru legs(haven't seen those :( ), awesome spear, and, the blaster even looks cool in this picture...

Now, i was exaggerating, i wouldn't buy it for $50, so, please delete that post

anyway, I do love this, and, that mask is full win, I'm sure some people here could make one of those, and if someone can make custom weapons and armor, well, then, you've got yourself a team! you know, maybe you and heir, should set up something, and have your own little "LEGO" right here, where you could sell stuff :D

that would be cool, i'd never buy i lego set again, but another problem, would be that it would probably be a LOT more expensive :(

all, in all, i really like this, i have no idea how you're the best MOCer, Writer, and drawer, here!

great job ToM!
