Bionicle 2009 Movie News

As we are just about to start production on the new film, thought it would be a good time to share some script news with you guys.

As you know, I got the chance to write the story for the movie, which was very exciting and fun to do. The script itself has been written by Sean Catherine Derek, who I must say has done a fine job on the project and has been very willing to work with me to make sure it came out "BIONICLE." It's been a very smooth process, and we will most likely be working together again on the planned 2010 movie.

To give you some background, Sean has been nominated for four Emmys for animation scriptwriting/editing, with one win (for her work on the Warner Bros. animated Batman series). She has also done work for other animated series, including Spider-Man, BKN's Kong and UBOS, and Mortal Kombat: Legend of the Dragon, among others. She has also written for children's comedy series and is a writer/producer on the live action Mortal Kombat Conquest series. Most recently, she finished writing and story editing for the Zorro Generation Z series.

Ooh, she's done Mortal Kombat. Does this mean some cool action sequences?

(I know you can't answer that.)

Thanks for the info!

Do you know when this is due to release?

No doubts here that if the writer had 4 nominations and one win from that, we're in good hands.

:Whistles: Wow Greg! She sounds pretty good. Four Emmy nominations and one win? That's pretty impressive. It's also a shame that I haven't seen any of her work. Maybe I have with Batman but just didn't realize it.

One question Greg, while you guys had free time to talk, did you guys talk about Batman? :P

-- Yes, the movie will focus on 2009 sets and story.

-- No, I haven't spoken with Sean about Batman -- we don't get time to just sit and chat, we are generally on conference calls with the movie studio and pretty much have to stick to business.

Awesome, Greg, simply awesome.

Have decisions been made on music? I recommend Nathan Furst, myself. He's expressed some interest in the possibility.

WL - Much too early for the studio to worry about music. You don't start scoring a film until you have at least a rough cut, so the composer can see the beats of the action. If Nathan's interested, I am sure he will have his agent contact TT and offer his services.

I'm hoping so. Generally I enjoy the story-structure of movie years because it means they can pack a full story into multiple books and have the movie tell a different story. It doesn't have to be divided so evenly.

Sounds great. I wonder if the characters in the movie will look like the sets? With the past 3, you could see similarities, but they where different. I wonder if they will make them more similar this time around.
