Relax. It's a thing on a Bionicle set. Nothing to get worried or annoyed about. My opinion: It actually could be both. Look at Icarax's right hand weapon; it's very similar to that.

Like I said, it's a pet peeve.

And it has been confirmed that it's a buzzsaw. Sure, it can be used as a shield, but so can his original swords, so the point is kinda moot.

actually that would be a very messy way of hacking at the enemy, as you'll have pieces flying everywhere.

(has watched too many horror movies and is paranoid of sharp spinning objects, especially ones with a switch... like chainsaws, buzzsaws, those dicing machines in kitchens... *shudder* )
