Page Five!

Onuki

Yes, after returning to Comedies to find that I was seven pages behind, I have returned, and in the midst of my quest to get back to having read every single topic, I have reached page five.

Don't ask why I chose to celebrate this page and not page six. :P

Onuki, over and out

No, it's actually quite the opposite. I'm just too lazy to do anything else at this hour. :P

You should add conner and king at the sok factoree to your contributions list of the spam library - where would it be without 'em?

Congradulations on reaching page 5!

While you wer away, I did my best to try and help keep the forum a bit cleaner. A Lot of reporting was done...

Thanks a ton. I can't explain how glad I am that others actually take the initiative to help keep our beloved forum clean. :)
Now will you leave my inbox in peace!? :P
Are you kidding? When I was last working on catching up, I was on page four. And by now, I've probably slipped back to page five again. We've got a loooong way to go before Schizo gets back.
9/8 rocks. Any compound metre rocks.

(This is in response to your post in Kex's blog)

:happydance:

2 + 3 + 2 + 2

3 + 2 + 2

2 + 3 + 3 + 2 + 2

3 + 3 + 2 + 3

The possibilities are endless.

------

Sometimes I wonder though:

It can be harder for the ensemble to keep a steady tempo when playing in compound meters, at least in my experience. Playing the same thing in 4/4 (where applicable) might almost be easier for some people because there's a steady beat.

But personally, I think it's much easier to play with the odd meter when everybody watches the conductor. (And the conductor can handle it -- sometimes the meter takes a lot of getting used to. :P)

Heh. I played something that was kind of in 7/4 before. It was actually a pattern of alternating between 4/4 and 3/4, but it still boils down to 7 beats in the phrase. :P

My understanding of compound metre is different than yours, I think, or at least this is what my piano teacher told me.

For example, if you have 9/8 you would not give every 8th note a beat, rather every group of every three 8th notes (dotted quarter). 9/8 would be 3 beats on a dotted quarter per measure, making it compound triple.

Cool, no?

Kind of reminds me of a suite I played two years ago (I forgot which one, but I'll try to find out), in which one of the movements was written in 2/4 3/4 time (That's how it was notated, with the two time signatures right next to eachother.) It was essentially in 5/4, with each measure going back and forth between 2/4 and 3/4.

Ah. See, I'd never heard the term before, and figured that was what you were referring to.

What you're talking about is rather more an extension of typical 6/8 time -- smack another 3/8 onto it, and you get 9/8. I've played it that way, too. At music camp, actually. :P It toggled between 6/8 and 9/8 at random.

Wow. And that actually relates to an upcoming comedy of mine that I won't reveal the specifics of...

Ask the Ask comedies?

Ask Comedy: Time to check my e-mail! (this is what someone in my I.T class says when he checks his e-mail, only to find out he has none)

Computer: You have 028740927585 viruses, 85734057934~3087%345 spam messages and a coupon for a muffin basket.

Ask Comedy: GRRR!!11 [stuff In Caps] STUPID VIUSES!11 [burnmad and Angry Emoticon Abuse] (etc etc)

That's why I don't vist comedies like I did in guesthood =P . Not that all the comedies were great back then but I didn't know better =D . Kinda keeps me away from the good ones.

Speaking of good comedies, you need to do another one-shot news article. They rocked.

the only good "ask" comedy was the original, "ask Tahu."

how many topics end in "at home" or contain the word resteraunt in them?

and if you're not making the fruit war museum, you might as well remove the coloumn.

I made an "at home" one once: The Muffins at Home. 'Twas satire. Makuta was driving an ice cream truck or something like that...

It's in my library under the "Satire" section if you want to read it. :P

A couple of weeks ago, I actually went through all the active pages of the Comedy forum, and counted how many of each of the following comedies there were:

  • Ask so-and-so
  • So-and-so at Home
  • So-and-so Starts a Restaurant
  • So-and-so Goes to School
  • Some Bionicle character meets somebody not related to Bionicle in Any Way
  • The Toa (or somebody else) go Somewhere
  • Etc.
I'll try to dig it up later...
