Russia / Georgia / United States Conflict

UPDATE: Russia has retreated out of Georgia, saying, "The aggressor has been punished."

Today, 8/13/08:

Russia to U.S.: Choose us or Georgia Forum link removed - Nukora

Any political comments will be deleted if it shall spark a flame war. (Wish they could be drafted. I <3 opinions)

Hmm. I don't know how to talk political while not talking political, but i'll try.

Okay, the reporting of this whole event seems a bit... "manufactured" to me.

Here's some things I consider to be facts:

This "war", is, once again, ...all about an oil pipeline.

This entire fiasco is due to a pipeline right-of-way across Georgia. That pipeline does not pass through South Ossetia - at its closest point it is 55km away.

When the USSR disbanded, South Ossetia and Abkhasia voted to stay with Russia, not Georgia. To give you an idea of how overwhelming the decision was, the data from South Ossetia the voter turn out was 95% and 99% of those voters elected to stay with Russia.

Condoleeza Rice visits Georgia and is told by the Department of Defense that war games are scheduled for Georgia for most of the month of July. Those war games ended July 31, Georgia attacked August 8. Do the math.

The purpose of the war games was to train the Georgian Army in 'counterterrorism operations' and 'door-to-door urban warfare.' In reality, it was prepping it to invade South Ossetia.

There was no 'urban war' or 'terrorism' in South Ossetia until Georgia and its allied advisors personally delivered them.

The advisors included both US military Israel military. Evidently, Ukraine troops were also involved in the invasion and murdering of civilians. The war started with the death of at least 10 Russian peacekeepers, and then Georgia started in on the genocide of civilians.

This premeditated act of war has slain 2,000 people and injured many others.

Russia responded, logically, properly and quickly to the attack...the sovereign right of any nation to defend its territory and citizens. The people of South Ossetia made the decision in the early 1990s to stay with Russia. Most of the people who live there have Russian passports, not Georgian passports.

President Medvedev has instructed Russian military judicial and forensics professionals to document these war crimes against the people of South Ossetia. Russia intends to press charges for war crimes against the perpetrators.

The Russian Black Sea fleet has blockaded Georgia to prevent any further military arms from coming into Georgia from Israel and the US.

Often unreported in the news is that Russia has also rushed humanitarian aid into South Ossetia.

We don't live in a very nice world people.

I hope not all of you believe things as they're told to you by your "news" programs.

Oh, snap. What now?

Nice picture Mr. President. Very flattering. Like that shot of Michael Phelps.

Also, somebody linked me to a chat thread which featured a guy in Georgia (state) going "I don't see any Russians!1!1!!!!". It amused me.

World War Three is happening right now. We just won't call it that for another fifty years. We're currently overdue for:

Major volcano eruption

Major Ice Age

Major flood

Major celestial bombardment

Major asstd. shortages

Major war

Major doomsday stuff.

Fun, huh?

Don't forget the possibilities of:

--Nanites with errant programming devouring organic matter at a scary rate.

--"Monsters" with errant DNA programming... well, doing whatever.

Between nanites being used badly and DNA altering being used badly... yeesh.

I dunno. All these current wars are generally unrelated to each other...

So, which country attacked first and why?

I find it ironic that this happened as the Olympics started up. World cooperation in China for the games, and serious conflict elsewhere. And it's all about oil. :glare:

That's why I'm glad to live in Pittsburgh. We're so atrocious that we'd just drive all that stuff away from us...

Yep, I don't live in Pittsburgh, but from what I can see...

No volcanoes in the area.

They'll get through it.

London, Washington D.C., Paris, etc... are more likely to get hit.

Farms in the area. :P

Center of the country. Plenty of time to skedaddle to Canada.

Can't stop that.

Except the fact our nuclear weapons, with the same strength as Russia, can likely wipe out half the country.

You'll know the full intensity of what our bombs can do now when you study the Cold War, if you get that high in school before being turned into ash.

:)

I'm sure we could do the whole country and maybe half their neighbors. And then everybody else will start shooting and the whole planet's doomed. Yay for nuclear winters. :glare:

With nanite programming OR DNA manipulation... they both could either be manufactured a certain way on purpose, or simply get a "glitch" and do stuff we really, really, REALLY don't want to ever see.

Lol, the next 10 years are going to be freaking insane... so very alien to what everyone calls their world now.

Lol, if we ever get a zombie apocalypse, THOSE are the prime ways it'd happen.

Nanites reconnecting just enough damaged areas on a dead body in order to (somewhat robotically) animate it?

Or would you prefer a person whose DNA has been written to regenrate limbs, even if the brain's been horribly damaged?

I'd go with the nanite zombies. You could probably knock them out with a simple EMP bomb.

I heard on the radio the other day that the US has 5,600 nuclear warheads, and Russia has 14,000.

When the US and Russia signed the disarmament agreement many, many years ago, we dismantled a huge portion of our nuclear weapons, but Russia just built more.

The non-governmental organization Human Rights Watch has reported serious violations of human rights on both sides. For example, Georgian soldiers are attacking ethnic South Ossetians and driving them out of their homes, and the Russian military is using cluster bombs on civilians and civilian structures.

Looks like any year can bring the end of humanity with it. Our race is so messed up that I'm beginning to look forward to doomsday.
