Brickfair 2008, Retrospective
So Brickfair has come and gone, and we're all sad now that it's over. We had an excellent turnout this year, with a lot of excellent MOCs, some great artwork, and even some fan-created games to play. We had a great spot, right at the front of the area, so we were the first thing most people saw and the last thing they saw as they left. There were a lot of oohs and ahhs and a bunch of questions. Fortunately we had our master MOCists Roa McToa and Darth Vader there as well as other seasoned builders like Smeagol4 and Makaru to answer most of those. Giving out free masks didn't hurt either.
In addition to our awesome display, BZPower members raked in the awards. Out of 22 possible (I think), we walked away with five, including:
- Best Bionicle for Vayland Dragon by Darth Vader
- Best Aircraft for Blackjack by Omicron
- Groan Award for Vakatu and Krukoa by Roa McToa
- Most Clever Element for Vakatu and Krukoa by Roa McToa
- Most Iconic for Sonic and Knuckles by onua nuva fan
- Todd Webb, for organizing and pulling off an awesome event
- Byron Foret aka Kopaka's Ice Engineering, for coordinating the Bionicle section and doing an amazing job of it
- Omicron, Smeagol4, Makaru, Kohaku, InnerRayg, Roa McToa, and Darth Vader, for being awesome staff members and cool people to hang out with
- Meghan and Nicole, for putting up with their boyfriends' crazy Lego friends all weekend
- ChocolateFrogs, for coming by on Saturday to help out during the public hours and for bringing some nice MOCs
- Michael aka Kaiapu (and his lovely wife Rachel and brother Mark), for coming by on the public days and letting me share their lunch
- The BBC Contest #50 Competitors, for creating the most amazing MOCs for the Bionicle display
- All the BZPower Staff and Members that sent in MOCs and artwork and games, since our awesome display wouldn't be possible without you
- All the BZPower Members that came and visited, for making our area look even busier and for the ego boosts (On a side note, next time we need to have a guestbook so I can remember everyone's names)
- Last but not least, Steve Witt, Jan Beyer, Tormod Askildsen, Erik Varszegi, Jim Foulds, Bjarke Schønwandt, Isabelle Jacquinot, and anyone else from The Lego Company, for creating the coolest toys ever and for giving away tons of sets and putting on some great presentations and for the fun and informative conversations. And for lunch too
