Maybe it's because it's promoting the idea that vegetables can talk?

It's promoting the idea of Christianity.

Kids need help to understand stuff like that.

Besides, there are plenty of people (including myself) who don't believe in it.

Different religions carry with them different ideas of morality, and different parents do too.
