Set Design
Most of it we already knew, some we didn't, and it was all fun to comment on. And if you know me well enough then you should already be able to expect my responses.
So finally we know why the pins have been changed.
-< >-
I'm just glad I can finally say "I told you so" to everyone who I've argued with about the pins for the last few years. Nobody would believe me when I said it was so they wouldn't get lost and kids could distinguish them.
I know, right? We've known this since BrickFest '06!
Wait, so they made the pins bright so little kiddies could tell the difference, but they made the element's colors darker to make it seem less "young"?
HOORAY PARADOX.

LOL. I want brighter colors back too. Why wouldn't those appeal to older kids?
And what about lime green and white? And Keetorange?
MTJ: And we also need to make it different from the year before.Well, bright green (like Lewa Nuva and Lerahk) would certainly be different now!
Question: Why have the basic Inika/Piraka torsos been used so often in the last few years? Why don’t we see any new torso designs?JD: Originally, they were built specifically to reduce the amount of actual building you have to do. Research said the kids didn’t want to build quite so much.
But this is LEGO!!! The company's core is about building! This makes no sense to me. LEGO should be promoting building and creativity, right?
JD: Piraka torso was meant to be used without armor; Inika torso was meant to have armor. That was the rationale I had for designing both of them. But they're different sizes...no comparison please. A stud in height can make a difference.
On weapons:
EF: When they’re not colored, it makes it easier to use the same element elsewhere. That's right, which is why I don't mind it as much. But Bara Magna weapons still rock.
On purple:
MTJ: I think it’s really because of the elemental powers, we already had six main colors chosen for the sets.Wouldn't it be awesome to branch out the elements?
Question: Why did the brown color sets (like stone) change to yellow and orange?
Answers: JD: The brown didn’t sell well.
We already knew that....
Thanks for the interview, Bink, and answers, designers.

One thing that annoys me was that Mata green was jammed together in a general question about Mata colors. My point: mata red and blue have made a slight comeback, even if they're not the primary color, so why not give bright green a chance as a secondary color, even if its just for lime. That was the one question I really wanted an answer too... oh well. (Especially since they got direct questions about purple and brown... we already knew about those colors and their problems)
We already knew, yes. *sigh*
I just realized something else. If the (older) fans like "darker" colors, then why come out with TAN instead of more brown? Hmm?
