Your eyes?

 

Depends on whether or not it's total darkness and whether or not you have a mirror when it's light.

That is correct. We would've also accepted the light source.

 

Shadows?
Actually, you can only see those in light; that's why they're called shadows.

 

Also, you still use your eyes in darkness, even if it just to see the darkness.

But... you can see the sun, or any other light source. It's the light itself that you can't see...

You see the outer part of the light source (e.g., bulb, not filament) or the sunlight. To actually see the light source, you need a filter or some way to block light. If you try to see either of those, you'll likely get that little shadowy/light spot in your vision.
