What kind of move is Morning Sun? I've never heard of it.

It's basically the same as Moonlight and Synthesis: it's a time-dependent (or not, depending on the version) healing move. It was Espeon's signature move in the original Gold and Silver versions.

Does one care about nerdiness as long as one enjoys it?

It's weather rather than time, now anyway. In rain, hail, and sandstorm it heals less, in sunny it heals more, and in normal it heals half the max health. Ponyta and Venonat have it as egg moves, too (but Venonat has always had it, at least since Beautifly came out. Ponyta and Growlithe are new).
