1/20/10 Story Fit Exercise

For an explanation of what the Story Fit is, please go here.

Each week I'll post an exercise. This is the entry for the exercise of the week of January 20-26. Since this is the first week of the Story Fit, we'll start off with a simpler task -- a one-word prompt:

Transformation

Write a story revolving around the theme of transformation. You may interpret it literally or figuratively. There is no word limit or any other constraints -- the only requirement is that the story contain this theme. Feel free to put forth ideas on stories if you're not too sure about what you want to write. Note: You do not have to complete this task by the 26th, as there is no deadline for the Story Fit project. However, since new exercises will be given out each week, you should still work on your stories to prevent too many tasks from piling up...procrastination won't be pretty.

Once you write your story, post here with a link to it. Extra points will also be awarded to those members who review other Story Fit members' stories. This will not only give you practice with writing but also reviewing, as well as promote an exchange of ideas and styles within the BZP Writers Community.

At the end of the week we will vote for the "Writer of the Week" based on whose story is everyone's favorite.

is it ok if the transformation shows up only in a segment of the story? Just because the chapters to Liavuru-Metru tend to be segmented....

Yep, that's fine.

Wow, really quick Tilius! I'll read your story after this then assign points. Haven't quite figured out a point system yet...

EDIT: And take your time Lady K. =]

Thanks for looking at my story. How does the point system work? Is 5 like TOP MARKS?

Yep, 4 is the highest normal score but I want to save 5 for the really good, above and beyond stories in terms of writing. Same with reviews, max of 2 points and then 3 would be an above and beyond-type review (though I'm not too sure what that means).

you know, when Bonesiii makes one of his megalithic posts that, if printed out, would take up four+ pages.

Firstly, I gotta say that I love this idea [though the name "Story Fit" could be changed =P], and I'll try to respond to your PM with a few things soon... I really hope to have time to do this.

Oh, I see. Yeah that would probably be a 3. xD

On Velox's suggestion, we'll have everyone vote on the "Writer of the Week". Nominate and cast your vote for someone based on which story you like best. You aren't allowed to nominate/vote for yourself. For example, "I vote for [title of story] by @name for Writer of the Week".

A note to Story Fit members:

There is no deadline for completing the tasks; you don't have to finish writing your story before the 26th. You can take as long as you want with your story, the only requirement is that you do write a story. If you procrastinate, more and more tasks will pile up as they're added weekly, and eventually you might not be able to keep up at all.

I'm debating whether to install a deadline, on advice from some of the members, but if I add one it will probably be two weeks, so you should shoot for that and see if you can keep up with such a pace.

K, just got the new chap of The Wall up following the theme: Chapter Ten. :D

If anyone wants to review it but thinks the epic's too long, please read it and review as you go along. I'd love to have some more readers. :D

I've posted my story, What We Become, and would appreciate any C&C you have to offer.

Sure, I'll try to do that soon. I hope to review the other stories some time, too. Maybe not all, but I'll definitely be reading all of them and possibly bullet pointing some pieces of advice here if I don't have time for a full review.

Speaking of reviews, I've reviewed Tilius' Recovery Time.

Maybe not a deadline, but rather a two week period between tasks instead of one week? Not sure how others feel about this, or if they feel the same, but I know that I'll need at least that for a while as at the moment I'll only be able to write two days a week [possibly five days, but three of those would be for a very minimal amount of time, and probably won't be of good quality unless I'm feeling very inspired].

But I don't want that to influence other people's opinions. I want to honestly know if you'd rather have it one or two task a week.

Velox--I prefer a weekly task; it keeps you on your toes, yet gives you enough time to write a legitimate, well-written story, and time to review others'. I think two weeks would be too long a wait, particularly because I can't wait for the next task already. :P
