Chapter 9: Desert of Sorrows

Cutscene: Atero

Onua squinted his eyes against the sun.

“I don't know how your Po-Matoran stand it,” he grunted. “It's so hot out here in the light!”

“Maybe that's because we're in a desert,” Pohatu chuckled. “Still, it's not Po-Wahi... that's for sure.”

“Hmm. Certainly not Po-Wahi,” Onua nodded, “for Po-Wahi was never strewn with ruins.”

“What?” Pohatu asked, following Onua's gaze. Indeed, at the Toa of Earth's feet rested a cracked stone structure, with writing engraved in it.

“That's no language that I know of, but I seem to be able to read it,” Onua continued. “It says, 'A'...'T'... 'E', 'R', 'O'. What's 'ATERO'?”

“Dunno,” Pohatu shrugged. “Let's look around... see if there are any clues.”

They searched for a few minutes, burning in the red-hot sun. Suddenly, Onua gave a cry of shock.

“What is it, brother?” Pohatu asked, running to Onua's side. The Toa of Earth was staring down at something thin and bleached-white. With a surge of nausea, Pohatu recognized it as a skeleton.

“What kind of a skeleton is this?” he asked. “The proportions are all wrong... it's not a Matoran, it's definitely shaped more like a Toa. Well, Lewa or Tahu, that is. But it's the wrong size... and it's got nostrils, like some sort of Rahi...”

“It's an alien,” Onua grunted. “That's the only solution. We're on another world, and we're in the middle of a dead desert.”

Pohatu looked around. Indeed, the air was stale, the sand too scratchy, and the sun too ferocious. The rocks were sinister... ruins were scattered everywhere, the ruins of a city... and so were the alien skeletons.

“What happened here?” Pohatu asked.

“How should I know?” Onua frowned. “But if I catch up with the alien monster that did this...”

“Good for you,” a gruff voice said from behind them, “you just did.”

Cutscene: Lord of the Skrall

Both Toa whirled, to see a tall, black-armored being, wielding a broadsword and shield. Some crude launcher was strapped to his belt, and there were flashes of green in his scratched, rusted armor.

“Makuta?!” Pohatu bellowed. “What are you doing here?”

The being laughed – a horrible, rasping sound. “I am not the Lord of Shadows, Toa fools. I am only his servant... but one to be feared. For I am the mighty Tuma, , last of the Skrall Lords, and leader of the Rock Tribe!”

“Well, I am Pohatu, Kolhii Champion of Po-Koro, Toa guardian of Mata Nui, and wielder of Stone!” the brown Toa bellowed.

“And I am Onua, Wisest of the Toa, wielder of Earth,” the black Toa said. “You would be wise not to challenge us. We have bested your master, and we shall again!”

“The Makuta has not met you,” Tuma frowned. “He knows of you, for sure – your are two of the Toa Mata, a fabled Toa Team sworn to protect his weakling brother, Mata Nui. But he has never fought you. You have not woken, for you are not needed.”

Onua was confused – a happening unheard of until now. “How do you know of the Makuta, anyway?” he asked. “And why are we unneeded? Even now, Mata Nui lies in slumber, struck down by the Makuta himself. It is our sworn destiny to awaken him, the Great Spirit, and you stand in our way. Prepare to be cast aside.”

“Good luck with that,” Tuma sneered, tensing for battle.

*insert standard brawl: Pohatu and Onua versus Tuma in a two-stock battle.*

Cutscene: Tuma's Escape

The Skrall Lord staggered back, wounded from Onua's savage attack. Pohatu charged forth to strike at him, but the ebon-armored titan simply sneered and raised a curious device in his hand. With the press of a button, he had disappeared from the scene, leaving Pohatu to smash headlong into a boulder.

“Oof,” the Toa of Stone grunted, collapsing into the sand. “Now where's he gotten to? Is this some trick of Makuta's?”

“I think not,” Onua frowned, “more like alien technology. But let us continue onwards; it is vital to right the wrongs here and return to the island of Mata Nui.”

*insert level: The Desert. New enemies: Vorox, Zesk, Sand Bat (miniboss). Oh, and how's this for music?*

*no ending cutscene*

*STAGE CLEAR reward: none*

Chapter 12?

Cutscene: An unexpected detour

Onua: We need to find Tuma, perhaps he will have answers for us on this alien world. Maybe we can leave this place as well, I quite dislike it here.

Pohatu: Is the sun getting to you Onua?

Onua: Lets just get moving.

*Onua and Pohatu begin running across the desert after a few seconds of sustained running a portal suddenly opens up in the ground Onua stops but Pohatu has yet to catch up*

Onua: Whoa!

Pohatu: what is it brother?

Onua: Stop running! Look out!

*Pohatu collides with Onua and they both fall into the portal*

Cutscene: Unexpected resistance

*Both toa fall from the sky to the ground, reminiscent of their entrance to Teridax’s cave*

Onua: For the love of Mata-Nui…..

Pohatu: Ugh, we have got to stop making entrances like this, not on is it bad for our health but it is not exactly stealthy either….

*several enemies previously fought appear all around, Multiman brawl begins*

Cutscene: Welcome to Odina [NOTE: It would be very easy to make cameos here on Odina because we could be very flexible with appearances of Generic Dark Hunters]

*An armor clad being runs towards the toa*

Generic Dark Hunter: State your business on Odina.

Onua: We recently fell from that portal up there*points up*, I am Onua and this is Pohatu.

Pohatu: Surely you have had problems with these things lately.

Generic Dark Hunter: We have toa, *grins* be glad we recently allied with The Order or I would have killed you both.

Pohatu: Killed us?!

Generic Dark Hunter: Yes, you two of all beings must know of this place…*scowls*…although you look rather different from what I have heard…

*several other portals open, spewing out enemies of all kinds[Enemies will be decided by someone else]

Generic Dark Hunter: Here we go again….

Onua: Brother look! The portal is closing!

Pohatu: Oh no…we have to get out of here!

*Level start, you have a time limit to get to the portal, jump from platform to platform facing resistance all the way*

Cutscene: Leaving so soon?

*Pohatu climbs into the portal Onua is about to follow when the Generic Dark Hunter intervenes*

Generic Dark Hunter: Toa, catch!

*Onua turns in time to catch a small device*

Onua; What is this?

Generic Dark Hunter: It is a device I stole from one of our friends over there, but I recalibrated it to open a portal like the one up there that will lead to Odina, so you can come back here any time. So if you need any assistance just start it up.

Pohatu: Onua? The portal is closing….

Onua: Thank you Hunter, I would wager that I will see you soon…

*Onua climbs into portal and the level ends*

This is fine, but try to make where they are not Metru Nui. Well it COULD be, but I'm already doing the Roodaka/Visorak Metru Nui level (go back a page or so and I did call dibs on doing Roodaka's part.)

Don't worry, the city isn't Metru Nui, this city is much larger and the buildings are much taller. The city also won't/doesn't have a name.

Chapter 22: Desolate City

Cutscene: Escaping this Hole

The last ten seconds felt like an eternity to Smiley. After the implosion of the portal, mutated beasts had swarmed him and Gresh, and they were fierce. Ferocious, indeed, but with all the wit and strategy of trained killers.

He didn't have the energy to take them all on, and he wasn't sure he could trust Gresh to survive a teleport. The Glatorian was taking quite a beating, and an unsettling trip through inter-dimensional space might push him over the edge. What to do, what to do...

Suddenly, Smiley came up with an idea. From the fighting habits of these mutants, he could guess that they were Dark Hunters… and if that was true, he could use their former nature against them.

Without warning, he latched one hand onto a mutant's neck, the other on its gun's trigger, and turned the fighter to face the others. Then he squeezed. When the survivors whirled to see who was attacking, they saw only one of their own with a smoking weapon, and converged on him. After a few moments, it turned into an all-out brawl between two factions of the mutants.

Smiley, having teleported to Gresh's side after firing the weapon, smiled more broadly as they tore each other apart. It bought him time to steady Gresh's digestive system, create a portal, and escape the pit.

*insert level: inter-dimensional space. Playable characters: Smiley, Gresh. New enemies: assorted Mutant Rahi. Notes: ends at a portal, all enemies are mutants.*

Cutscene: Bad Neighborhood

Smiley and Gresh arrived on the other side of the portal, fully expecting enemies to leap at them. But they were mistaken - a look at the surroundings revealed only a picturesque cityscape.

But not quite so picturesque as all that, Smiley realized. For a closer look (and listen) revealed two disturbing things:

One. There were signs of a battle here - scrapes on the buildings, blue blood smeared across the asphalt, and a few broken weapons here and there.

Two. It was quiet. Deathly quiet.

As they walked into the center of the city, it got worse. There were no buildings any more - just burning shacks, littered with bodies. A few were still alive, groaning and pleading for help, but Smiley knew from a glance they were beyond help.

Something came over Gresh's face. After a few minutes, he turned to Smiley and asked:

"Do you think death hurts?"

"It depends. Do you mean a death like those poor souls back there?" Smiley replied.

"Yes. No. I don't know," Gresh said. "Any kind."

"Well, I'd say it depends on how you died. A natural death is much less painful than a spear being driven into your heart," Smiley said cheerfully. "But if for the right cause… it doesn't matter. That's the most you can ask for in war - to die for something you believe in."

Gresh considered this, nodding.

"Of course, you don't have to worry about dying. Not while I'm around," Smiley quickly added.

"Of course not," Gresh chuckled. "Do you think -"

The Glatorian stopped speaking. Stopped walking. Smiley had gone a few meters when he turned back to see the green-armored warrior peering around nervously, as if waiting for an attack.

"What's that for?" Smiley asked.

"Can't you hear it?" Gresh said, starting to sweat.

"What?"

"The clicking," Gresh murmured, "the never-ending clicking…"

Smiley listened - and indeed, there was a clicking noise, growing ever louder. Mixed with loud buzzing. Ever louder. Ever closer.

"It's -" Gresh started to say, panic on his face, but he needn't continue. For just then, something blotted out the sky, black masses filling the air. And the clicking was intolerable.

They were Nui-Rama. Dozens of them. Hundreds. And standing in the middle was one very evil-looking Toa Kualus.

*insert multiman brawl: Smiley and Gresh vs. 30 Nui-Rama.*

*insert single-stock brawl: Smiley and Gresh vs. Dark Rahi Trainer (all Rahi).*

Cutscene: Bigger Guns Nearby

Kualus screeched with pain - not the sound a Toa would make, but an animalistic utterance. Then he slammed the wormhole device on his belt and disappeared.

Smiley looked away, trying to rub the image out of his retinas. He was amazed at how confident the Makuta were in their mind control - and how absolute it was.

Smiley and Gresh set off for one particular building, neither saying much for the rest of the trip. But eventually, Gresh's curiosity got the better of him:

"Why are we heading for that building, anyway?"

"I recognize its type," Smiley grunted. "It's a weapons research center. We're going to need much bigger firepower if we'll be breaking into the Makuta's master lab."

Gresh grinned. "I like the sound of that plan!"

Smiley grinned, too. It was kind of funny, after all.

The two ran for the research center with higher spirits than before.

Oh, by the way - I finally got back to posting stories in the Library. If anyone's interested in checking them out, my library is here.

Link to comment

Are you advertising yourself here? Why would you do that?

Who still has story chapters to write? I know I have one left but I wont even start writing mine until someone else has posted theirs.

So I would like a list of characters who are currently in the lab. I know that Kualus is, but who else?

Link to comment
I'm writing a Metru Nui under Roodaka's control chapter, with Krika and Matoro. I then have to wright a Mahvrah's Caves level, and then a Laboratory Fortress Wall level. I finished Lewa & Kopaka, but again, their chapter is saved on a computer in another building, so yeah.
Link to comment

Inferno, you stalker :uhuh:

Just kidding. Well, Omega, hurricane or no hurricane, you've still got to get that chapter to me.

Link to comment

Hey, I'm just making sure everyone on the project will stay alive, we can't afford having someone die especially not from storms.

Either way Omega, do you remember what you wrote? Cause if you can't get to the other building then you may just want to re-write the chapter. Otherwise, we will probably just keep bugging you about it.

Link to comment

Well, answer me this, Inferno: would anyone here really care if Omega died? I could always just write his parts for him. XD

Link to comment

Yes, please do. I've waited long enough for this. After all, they're some of the most famous BIONICLE characters ever; we can't let them take a back seat in the action.

Link to comment

Well it is pretty cool. it involves Bohrok. I might do two levels as well.

In the original, the level was pretty long, I might make it into two.

Link to comment

@Angel Bob: I'm sure Omega cares if Omega dies.

When was the last time you actually wrote your own chapter, Bob? From what I've seen, all you do is adjust other people's ideas.

@Omega: You don't have to make it into two, long levels are fun! Seeing as most levels have been pretty short, I think a long level is probably a good idea.

Link to comment
Well it kinda went though this one climax where you had to fight each other, then it just kept on going and then there was a hole nother big boss fight against the bahrahg. Not to mention 2 locations.

1. Besides him.

2. The last time I wrote a chapter? Lesseee... *checks The Cracked Vahi document*

The last THING I wrote was my Clockwork Angel cameo, but technically the last CHAPTER I wrote was Chapter 10, where Tahu and Gali came across the master of the laboratory. Then we left that story arc and wrote all these other 30+ chapters detailing what everybody else was doing at the time.

But I'm happy to be Editor-in-Chief. I'm still writing, just with other people's ideas. It's kind of interesting, really; a job I've never really done before.

Link to comment

Yes, so you can get credit while stealing other people's ideas AND destroying their artistic integrity at the same time.

But I wouldn't really care if I died, as I would be dead. Jessica MIGHT care. My ex-girlfriend would probably care, but it wouldn't be sadness or sympathy. It would be more humor, or joy. Then again, they life near me, so they might die along with me.

you guys make me laugh a lot when reading your posts. Anyway I pretty much have part two figured out and "Algebra Bill" like it so much he promoted me. *RANK UP* I was wondering where your PM was Omega but if you have to worry about dying then I can wait. Otherwise I recently realized that I have yet to write a chapter novel style so I'm gonna do that, I'll probably have it up later tonight or tomorrow.

Oh yeah. LABOR DAY FTW So I won't have school on Monday and no homework so I can get stuff done! :D

Chapter: The factory Number: I still have no idea.

Cutscene: An unforgiving land.

The portal opened in the sky. Again. Pohatu once more found himself falling towards the ground.

“No, not this time!” He shouted.

The toa of stone used his elemental powers and changed the contour of the land from a flat plain to a much more forgiving slope.

“Well done brother,“ Onua said after rolling down the small hill. “I have grown tired of falling into your element.”

“Yes well done indeed.” Talos said smugly as he hovered to the ground on his jump pack.

The toa of stone responded by glaring at the dark hunter.

Onua, trying to prevent this awkward moment from maturing any further quickly said, “Hunter, what is our mission in this strange world?”

“Ah yes, our mission.“ The dark hunter stammered, “Our mission is to locate the source of these mutation capsules—“ He stopped eyes getting wider behind his helmet as he realized that the capsule and portal device were now scattered metal bits on the slope that Pohatu created. “No!” He shouted, “We don’t have a way to get out of this blasted place now!” He slumped to the ground obviously saddened by the lack of transport back to his home.

Onua walked over and placed his hand on Talos’ shoulder. “Fear not hunter, we shall find a way back but first we must complete our mission.”

*insert level: Outside the factory. Playable characters Talos, Onua and Pohatu. New enemies: stationary turrets, Destroy both to gain access to the factory.

Cutscene: No escape.

As the trio walked in the doors that had opened in emergency mode once shut behind them in lock down mode.

“Well,“ Pohatu said sarcastically “that will sure aid us in our escape.”

“But” Talos pointed out “welcome to the factory.” Machinery was in constant motion around them. Robots, weapons and most notably, mutation capsules rolled off the assembly line. “Now.” Talos started, “there must be some sort of generator that powers this place...”

“Over there!” Pohatu shouted.

“Good eye toa, now lets go shut it down.” Talos said.

*insert level: inside the factory. Playable characters Talos, Onua and Pohatu. New enemies: defense drones (they have a shield around them and they get in your way, destroy the generator to progress.

Cutscene: Not so easy is it?

The power went out as the trio took a final blow to the generator

“Excellent” the toa of earth said “now we may being finding means of exiting—“ An electronic voice interrupted him and chimed, “Backup generator activated, power restored.”

“Mata nui…” Pohatu sighed.

“Well,” Talos said, “we won’t find it standing here, lets go”

*insert level: inside the factory. Playable characters: Talos, Onua and Pohatu. New enemies: none but mainly robots should appear, get to the back up generator.

Cutscene: Try as you might…

“We made it!” Talos said “Now lets shut this place down once and for all.”

“Why is there sand all over the floor though?” The toa of stone barley finished his sentence before the cheerful voice once again came through the loud speakers.

“Warning, intruders detected in generator room activating defensive protocols.”

The sand that Pohatu mentioned began to flow towards the center of the room. Before long a figure could be seen taking shape.

“That sand you mentioned wasn’t sand at all.” Talos explained “It is a Kranua, a specialized vahki unit.” The Kranua was at full form now looked down upon these pitiful intruders and took a step forward.

“I don’t believe I like vahki very much.” Onua said.

*insert boss battle: Kranua. Playable characters: Talos, Pohatu and Onua

Cutscene: Newcomers

The Kranua stumbled backwards; systems falling it began to revert back to its sand form, only to be sucked into the fan of the generator. The sand began to clog vital cooling vents and the generator started to overheat. A red light flashed, an alarm blared and the generator shut down in emergency mode.

“Excellent.” Talos said as the lights went out and his helmet lights activated

“It maybe excellent for you but I can’t see!” The toa of stone shouted angrily.

“Shush for a minute.” The hunter said quietly, “I’m picking up some energy signatures, one is like nothing I have ever seen before…we need to go check it out perhaps we could find an ally.”

“Or an enemy…” Pohatu said quietly.

“That’s a risk I am willing to take, lets get moving.“

Actually, I promoted Talos to Fourth-in-Command, shoving Omega out of that rank and down to Fifth-in-Command. :D

Chapter 23: The Factory

Cutscene: An Unforgiving Land

The portal opened in the sky. Again. Pohatu once more found himself hurtling towards unforgiving ground.

"Not again!" he cried, and focused on changing the rock-hard plain to a more comfortable sand pit.

"Well done, brother," Onua commented after climbing out of the sand. "I'd grown tired of smashing into your rocks."

"Yes, well done indeed," Talos grinned, hovering to the ground with his jet pack.

"Cheater," Pohatu grimaced at him.

Onua quickly changed the subject. "Hunter, what is our mission in this strange world?"

"Ah, yes! Our mission. I'd nearly forgotten," Talos stammered. "Our mission is to locate the source of these mutation capsules--"

Suddenly, his eyes widened behind his helmet as he realized something important. Nobody had thought to cushion the landing of the mutation capsule and the wormhole device.

Staring, dumbstruck, at the scattered bits of metal strewn on the rocky ground, it took him some time to utter his words of dismay.

"Grrrrghdffll!" he eventually growled.

"There goes our transport," Pohatu said. "Nice job."

"Fear not, Hunter," Onua said, placing a claw on Talos's shoulder. "We shall find a way back yet; but first, our mission."

*insert level: Outside the Factory. Playable characters: Talos, Onua, Pohatu. New enemies: Turrets (both must be destroyed to gain access).*

Cutscene: No Escape

Once the three heroes had stepped inside the factory, the doors slammed shut behind them. "Emergency lockdown," a mechanized voice called. "Doors sealed."

"This rather buggers our escape plan," Pohatu muttered.

"But," Talos said, pointing - "welcome to the factory."

Machinery was in constant motion around them. Robots and weapons of all kinds rolled off the assembly line - but most notably, mutation capsules.

"There must be some sort of generator that powers this place," Talos muttered.

"Over there!" Pohatu shouted, pointing towards a gigantic metal machine, connected to all the rest of the room's consoles.

"Good eye, Toa," Talos nodded. "Let's go shut it down."

*insert level: The Factory. Playable characters: Talos, Onua, Pohatu. New enemies: defense drones, generator (must be destroyed to finish).*

Cutscene: Defense Protocols

"We made it!" Talos shouted. "Now let's shut this down once and for all!"

"Why is there sand all over the floor?" Pohatu mumbled, but nobody paid him any attention.

"Warning," the voice of the factory said. "Intruders detected in generator room. Activating defense protocols."

The sand that Pohatu had mentioned began to flow towards the center of the room, rising up in a maelstrom of energy. Before long, a figure could be seen taking shape.

"That's not sand," Talos said. "Well, rather it is… but it's also a Kranua."

Onua and Pohatu stared at him blankly.

"A specialized Vahki unit," Talos explained bleakly, "retired for its brutality… and lethal methods."

"Ah," Pohatu said, as the Kranua stared down at them with madness in its robotic eyes. The robot took one step forwards, and the whole room shook.

"I don't believe I'm going to like Vahki very much," Onua said.

*insert boss battle: Kranua. Playable characters: Talos, Pohatu, Onua.*

Cutscene: Newcomers

The Kranua stumbled backwards, systems failing. Soon, it began to dissolve into sand - and that sand was sucked into the fan of the generator. A horrible scratching and grinding noise sliced through the air - and then the voice spoke once more.

"Generator overheating," it said calmly.

A red light flashed, an alarm blared and the generator shut down.

"Excellent," Talos grinned, even as the lights went out. Not missing a trick, he switched on his helmet lights.

"It might be excellent for you, but I can't see!" Pohatu yelled.

"Shush for a minute," the hunter said quietly. "I'm picking up some energy signatures… one is like nothing I have ever seen before. We need to go check it out; perhaps we could find an ally."

"Or an enemy," Pohatu whispered.

"That's a risk I am willing to take," Talos replied. "Let's get moving."

I like the chapter, especially the parts where you didn't need to edit my stuff. :P I suppose the two generators thing was kinda ridiculous. How do you like the run on joke of Pohatu always falling from the sky?
