My Imagination Is Spoiled

I'm studying. I swear. But my mind is like "DO SOMETHING WITH THIS IDEA NOW RAWR". All right, fine, you win!

Simple question: what would guys think about a [web]comic involving Human Bionicle characters? I have some cool plot ideas I've been wanting to use for a long time, but I'd love to hear what BZP wants/likes/dislikes/etc. Thankees.

Doing a comic has been something I've dreamed of doing since I got 'truly' interested in art when I was around 10 or younger. It's now or never. I will continue to work on commissions (which is going fine, but may be a slight lag because of the scanner agggh sorry) and GitS. Am I putting too much on my plate? Yes. But sadly, that's what artists do and it keeps my inspiration pumping. I mean, I can't promise this project will come out tomorrow, but maaan this is a craving worse than my desire for chocolate. That's a big craving.

Back to studying about studying...(I really don't get this class??)

I've had that problem before. Like when I'm trying to sleep.

One particular moment I remember was in astronomy class and got a great idea for a sci-fi story. I ignored whatever was being lectured and started jotting down notes on what would happen if, and things I could write about...

I don't know what you mean by HB characters, aside from that devil-boy from Darkhorse Comics.

But doing a webcomic would be cool, I think.

Human Bionicle. I edited that in the entry. - LK

I've never fancied Humanonicle. Half-human-half-BIONICLE would be fine.

Is there a specific reason why you don't like it? I understand if one doesn't, but sometimes I think people view it on the wrong pretense.

I'm looking to hear both positives and negatives, so you guys are more than welcomed to start a discussion out of this.

I think it depends on how you do it. I've seen it done right, and it done wrong (or at least not to my tastes).

IIRC, I think Brave Dragon had been doing some stuff and I liked that.

I don't find it BIONICLE enough. Couldn't you make a style similar for every lifeform? Ameobonicle.

Your are great at Humanonicle, and so are other. It just don't fancy it.

But human-BIONICLE is waaay more awesome than BIONICLE. IMO, at least.

But anyway, I say go for it Lady K -- especially since it's something you really want to do [and even more especially if it's human BIONICLE!]. Lol, I could ramble on for five paragraphs [well, more, I'm sure] like I did earlier this year for an essay [for the play Our Town] on how time is short and we need to do what we want now before it's too late, but I'll just leave it at that. =P So yeah, go for it.

When I think of human-Bionicle, I think of people but with elemental powers and then something akin to Kanohi and their subsequent powers. They have weapons and tools and usually some sort of symbol on their body defining their type. What appeals to me is they seem to be a "down to earth" superhero, because they are not invincible and have struggles plus some cool traits that standard superheroes can not have.

However, if you are envisioning something else, I am open to other interpretations.

My idea is similar to yours I think--a human (obviously) that controls a element and powers (akin to Bionicle, or imo Avatar: The Last Airbender), with armor/outfits that either closely resemble the set or simply matches the 'culture'. It's fun to mix in Bionicle aspects, because contrary to what people think, it's a great challenge artistically to come up with it, and then of course having to twist around a character or situation to make it more human. It's kind of hard for me to explain atm. Of course, I like to imagine the rahi/technology/etc to be extremely close to the set version and all.

And yeah, my idea of HB is nowhere near superhero stuff. Much more down to earth, fantasy/sci-fi feel.

Don't stress out too much about it, hm? Otherwise I fully approve of this idea. Your talent for coming up with stories is so awesome, it's close to a superpower!

I solved the problem of having ideas during educational moments with being a student in a class that endorses such stuff now...

Sounds great, but maybe do a webcomic with your own original story and characters? That way it could be yours entirely :)

Most original stories I have don't suit a webcomic, or it's already planned to be written as a novel. I am kind of paranoid about showing original work.

Anyway, HB can get pretty original. It's a pretty fun subject for me, and special in a way that it's helped me keep drawing all these years..

Sounds like an awesome idea, and definitely something I'd be veery interested in :D

I just want to warn you - doing (larger) comics may seem like less work than they actually are. (In other words, they can be pretty time-consuming  ). At least that's what I experienced ^^

Actually, I do have one Idea you could try. What if instead of going with another epic to write, you could base the web comic on that instead? It is just of thought, one that I hope you could think about.
