  1. Sorry Paleo, I didn't mean to insinuate that non-customizers are fearful. I was going for "apprehensive of" or "opposed to" the practice.

As for the general argument for customization, one could think of the modifications as merely utilizing the medium of Lego to its highest potential. The part needed is within the piece Lego provides, as a statue exists within a block of marble. Lego can be both a subtractive and additive medium (woodworking, stained glass and metalsmithing are similar endeavors; modified parts coming together to create a unique and altogether better creation than what could be done with raw lumber, unshaped glass or metal ore). One could argue that it takes more imagination and is far more challenging to build with what does not yet exist than to build strictly with what one has been given.

Not that building within the confines of pure Lego doesn't take a great deal of talent... in the end, I think that both practices (purism and customization) are equally valid and neither takes more imagination, creativity, or talent than the other.

  2. Yay, for myself as well - BZP being offline for the past several months was very, very disappointing. Now I get to post MOCs and so forth. I guess since you had a hiatus you didn't miss BZP due to its downtime ... lucky you! And we've all been waiting for months now (before BZP's forums went under) to find out who the Great Being is ... I'm still betting Kapura ...

  3. I vaguely remember something - "ODG" I presume is Official Greg Dialogue, and it has just now been split and closed by Bonsii. My recollection is fuzzy, but did we have anything to do with that? Or do you mean something else?

  4. I've been so busy with school, it's taken me two days to reply to this post (school started on the 1st for me). And by "getting new books," do you refer to buying or checking out textbooks? In my curriculum, we are assigned and released textbooks on temporary loan for the duration of the relevant class. By your phrasing, it would seem you yourself must purchase the books . . .

As usual, enlighten me if I misunderstood :)

  5. Well, with my semi-feeble powers of deduction, I can safely assume you refer to voting on which username your readers would like you to have. Otherwise, I haven't the slightest clue as to what you are speaking of.

Personally, "Ignaka" is familiar yet original, like my sister's username "Radiaka." However, you have been known as "Redidax" (or variations of such), and therefore would not face the problems dramatic name changers confront. So, I would choose "Redidax." Besides, "Redidax" is completely original.

  6. I don't see the brilliance - unless you speak of the fact that it has been this way for a while now. It seems like the "Hot Topics" panel isn't working. Mine is #3, and each day now it says I've gotten 26 replies in the last day. So yeah, something is up . . . though nothing quite brilliant. Maybe I am missing something - please explain.

  7. Wow, precisely the reason I haven't been getting to you blog recently - the server's been too slow. Now, two days after they tell us to switch to this new skin, I take the time to actually read the announcements :) (as opposed to immediately trying to load a forum page).

Now everything is fast as usual.

On another note, biking is nice, though three hours? I'd get tired and bored in 30 minutes :)

  8. Very neat. While the build is great, silver doesn't go with dark green and lime very well. However, the same design applied to Mantax's version of the armor, and perhaps the silver or trans blue spikes would be out of this world (so to speak).

@Brickeens - meh, I've never seen anyone do anything with it. And though I joined a while ago in 2008 (in December 2009), Redidax hasn't been MOCing for a while. So, for good reason, a torso built off a NGB is new and exiting (more or less) for us and those who are unaware of any prior designs based upon a similar concept.

    Oh, poor Karzahni :)

    Anywhoo, nice work . . .

  9. That should be interesting - I myself have completed a design for the Toa Nuva [skipping long explanation], though I started with a leg design. The reason being that legs take up half of the MOC, and LEGO limbs nowadays are too overused, bulky, and generic. Also, it is easier to make a torso fitting the legs than legs fitting a torso.

I myself have never found use for the NGB, since it gets narrow quickly. However, depending on filler or sheer size, this torso may be spectacular. Get those pictures!

  10. Well, I have my Nuva Project in the works. I have quite a bit done already, though far more to be finished. Takua's shadow half is proving to be especially tricky . . .

I have also picked up Photography. I took an elective on it for a semester. Summer gets so boring without an active hobby :)

  11. What would be the purpose? And while I sincerely doubt anyone aware of this peculiar request has the capability to do such a thing, I do hope that Klaresh is able to obtain a video, compuer generated or no, of himself unpackaging whatever aforesaid thingamabob or whichimicallit . . .

Yeah, that kind of work takes years of professional education to master, so I bet the quickest way to get that video would be to buy this gaming device and videotape it :D Anywhoo . . .
