I don't 'write' for my insane characters - they write for themselves.

Think about the character, and put them in their current situation. Chances are, the characters can exist in your head, and once you know them well enough you can predict their reactions perfectly.

Do exactly the opposite of how your rational mind says to respond. That's what it comes down to for me.
