The American one is full of chavs. Plus the presentation style doesn't appeal to me nearly as much, and each presenter seems to be brand-centric.

Well, I can't say about chavs and whatnot, but the little of it that I've seen doesn't entertain me. It just isn't Top Gear IMO.

Well, I have to agree about that and the Twilight ( AAARGH! ) thing, but the fact is, why does Holden always repeat those things. Dunno how it is in English version, but in Italian version he keeps saying "et cetera" or that "he isn't in the mood" of doing something. And that stupid thing about Central Park's ducks? I hate those things.

Yeah, but see, that's what I think makes the book good to me; yes, it's repetitive (I don't remember those things specifically, but they probably are in the English version, too), and there are some stupid scenes (like the ducks), but that, in my opinion, just adds to his character. Whether we like parts of it or not, I think Salinger stayed true to the character. Then again it has been a while since I've read it so maybe those things would bug me just as much if I remembered...

I know. Something similar happened to me with a book of Daniel Pennac. When I was little I didn't understand it, but recently I've read it and I liked it. Weird things of life...

Anyways, about The Catcher in the Rye, it's like with every book: depends on the reader.
