  1. I’d say the Toa Mata (mostly Tahu, Pohatu, and Onua), Takanuva, Jaller, Matoro, Mata Nui (after his time in Bara Magna), Gresh, and probably Ekimu. That’s a good topic. I like it. :)

Ah, good point...Jaller did sacrifice his life to ensure prophecy/destiny fulfillment, and Ekimu risked it all to keep power out of the wrong hands. Not sure on Gresh though, he may be more of a Superman case...able to wield it during a desperate hour, but then unable to lift it again after.

  2. Before I even begin, since this is a Marvel-related thread, I wanna ask that no one spoils Endgame. I personally have seen it, but I know that others here have not, so please be considerate!

Anyways, I'm sure all of us here are fairly familiar with Thor's hammer Mjolnir, and the ever-famous "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." enchantment that Odin put upon it. This enchant was mainly for the purpose of keeping beings such as Loki from wreaking havoc with it, and making sure Thor lived up to who he was supposed to be, but Thor and Odin are not the only beings to ever wield Mjolnir. In fact, for those who don't know, Mjolnir has even been wielded by beings outside of Marvel comics. I won't go into a list, but a few of the individuals who have wielded the hammer in comics are Spider-Man, Black Widow, Magneto, Professor X, Wonder Woman, and Superman. In the case of Superman, he was only able to wield it temporarily in a desperate hour, when he tried it to pick it back up later, he couldn't. So this begs the question...which Bionicle characters would be worthy of Mjolnir? And which characters would the hammer allow to wield its power temporarily in a desperate hour? For me, the two most obvious characters that could be worth of holding the hammer are Takanuva and Matoro. Mata Nui after his time on Bara Magna could probably wield it. Not 100% sure on Tahu, but I think he could, at least temporarily if nothing else. Just a fun little discussion me and a friend had recently, figured I'd bring it here and see what everyone else has to offer.

  3. Everyone talks about how bad it would end, but I tend to think that the world would react much the way the world in Man of Steel and, particularly, BVS did...with debates and politics. Toa would be looked at like gods among men. Questions of who they really are, and why they're really here would be raised. They would have their defenders, and their detractors. Much like Superman, they would no doubt maintain respect for the military whilst standing their ground, and proceed to ally with them. I could also see them being rather vocal in society, especially given the current political climate, which I couldn't see them tolerating too much. Much of their time could be spent dealing with human issues during times when a major threat isn't present. Granted, it's hard to say how it would go down...everyone here brings up valid points.

Ya'll might wanna check Faber's instagram again...more concept art, and this one's a lot to take in.

Was this bait to get us to look at the Instagram page? Because there's nothing there after the canister thing.

Canister thing is what I was referring to, didn't see anyone say anything about it so I wasn't sure how many people saw it.

  5. The Baterra default form would have been a neat set, as would a Skrall Sister. I also wish we got a titan Arthaka at some point, and official sets of all the Rahi that only ever got mentioned.

Had Bionicle gone on for longer and maybe gained a larger adult collector following, it would have been nice to see something akin to UCS sets/Masterpiece figures from Transformers. Super-detailed, large, scale figures of iconic characters such as the 6 Toa Mata made with building techniques that are too unorthodox for general retail sets. I'd pay obscene amounts of money for a "masterpiece" Pohatu

    :kakama:

Definitely agree on the Masterpiece thing! I think LEGO should at least give us "Masterpiece" figures of the Toa Mata, and if that does well, go from there. Much like you, I'd pay jaw-dropping amounts of money. I daresay I'd even be willing to cancel a vacation just to afford them!

  6. Teridax resurrected the Visorak when he took control of the robot. Since he died, though, they’re all wild now (like the Rahkshi) and there’s no real need to eradicate them anymore, since they’re not a unified force. Likely just a few attacks here and there to be dealt with individually.

The Visorak were annihilated after he had already taken control of the MU.

Yes, games are expensive, especially the kind I'm wanting...think BioShock or Fallout. Open-world RPG. Leave the complicated story bits to side quests or as intel to find in order to make it less complicated for younger audiences. Expensive and improbable, but not impossible, and wonderful if done right. Don't like the idea of games? Go the comic route, and give it a more of a manga art style, except in color. Of course, there's also the animated films route...look at what DC is doing with their animated universe. Think films like Batman and Harley Quinn, Gotham by Gaslight, and Batman Ninja. All straight-to-Blu-Ray, and very successful. Let the great minds behind DC's animated universe make some Bionicle films, and you might have something magical in your hands. Just some ideas I've come up with...hope they're at least interesting.

I think the fact that all three of the films you mention are Batman films demonstrates why that wouldn't work as well for getting kids into Bionicle… a lot of those films' popularity stems from the fact that they start with a lead character who's already familiar to basically every generation alive today, and generally quite popular among kids of all ages. You'd be hard pressed to find a 7 to 16 year old who doesn't have any idea who Batman is. But you'd probably find plenty who have never heard of Tahu or Vakama or Ekimu.

As far as games go, I think the idea of a high-quality, story-driven game probably would present some issues for the core LEGO audience. Mata Nui Online Game was pretty phenomenal, aside from occasional bugs. But it could also be confusing enough that LEGO had to give it its own FAQ and walkthrough on their website, something they rarely have to do with their modern, pick-up-and-play mobile apps or even the fairly intuitive PC and console video games from Tt Games.

And we saw even more so with Mata Nui Online Game II some of the issues with delivering a free game like that on a strict deadline… rather than an immersive work of art, you can just as easily wind up with something tedious, buggy, unfinished, and borderline unplayable. I wouldn't be surprised if games like this wound up being a major drain on LEGO's customer service department, which already costs them a pretty penny to maintain and has a hard time even keeping up with all the product-related complaints they are called on to resolve during certain times of the year.

In all honesty, I brought those 3 films up purely because I can't say I've paid much attention to the rest of their animated universe, but your point it still valid. As for the games...the issues you cite with MNOG are why I think all the complex, deep story bits could be left to side-quests, that don't have to be completed. If only the most basic and essential story elements were part of the main story, hopefully that would keep it from being too complicated.

  9. Everyone talks about rebooting Bionicle as a TV show, an anime series, an animated or even live-action movie series...am I the only one thinking about a game series here? With the proper team, it could theoretically work out fairly well, and could provide some interesting opportunities. Just some food for thought.

There are some pictures around the net. Understandably, most people seem to assume they're bootlegs, but the menus actually use some glatorian assets that never saw the light of day before, let alone would have been easily accessible to bootleggers. Considering the publisher on the case is named as Universal, combined with the very limited distribution, I'd wager these are just extremely budget products that Universal patched together partly using a cache of assets leftover from The Legend Reborn.

Yeah. I think the explanation given was that, since Universal still holds the licennse for Bionicle on DVD, they figured they might as well make use of it one last time. It really is quite an illustration of how irrelevant Bionicle has become. Remember the hype for Mask of Light's release? I was told it was massive, and basically unprecedented for a Lego product. Now there's not even enough money in the budget to give a DVD a proper back cover.

I feel like this says about as much about the waning relevance of DVDs as about the waning relevance of Bionicle. Some Netflix shows don't even seem to get DVDs. Like, Voltron: Legendary Defender is in its fourth season and still has an active toyline, yet I don't think it's had any DVD releases. The way people enjoy home entertainment is increasingly shifting away from physical media and towards digital downloads and streaming.

Even as a die-hard Ninjago fan, I've basically stopped buying Ninjago seasons on DVD, since the first five seasons are available in high definition via Netflix and it's probably only a matter of time before the two most recent seasons and the "Day of the Departed" special get added as well.

DVDs have been irrelevant since the moment Blu-Ray came out, and are now even more irrelevant given the rise of 4K Blu-Rays. Of course Universal won't care about a DVD, it's an outdated, archaic format.

  11. Scrubbish, what a strange dream! still going good with Tab then? (I remember the back story from that other thread)

Usually I'm very good at remembering dreams, but recently I can't recall a single one, how strange!

I can't remember most of my recent ones because they're so horrifying that my brain purges the memory as soon as I wake up.

  12. My dreams as of late have been rather...vision-like. Some fun, but most are dark, disturbed, cryptic, and in some cases downright terrifying. Strangely enough, some of these dreams seem to have particular people as their focus...problem is, at the time of the dreams, those various people haven't crossed my mind in a while prior. One strange dream I've had is restoring my first car...somehow finding it a junkyard and convincing my parents, my friends, and even a few people of influence to invest in fixing it...and somehow, we all pull it off. One recent dream involved a major attack in a big city. Not sure what the city was or why I'd even have been there, but I remember seeing a building chopped in half by a railgun...and then a jump-cut to the aftermath and seeing total devastation. I've had many other dark dreams, but most of them are simply too horrifying and disturbing to share here. Many involve nuclear war, among other bleak things. Another happy, but strange, dream I had was becoming close friends with a celebrity I'm fond of...by being on a really long flight with them. Crazier still, in the dream they admitted to being somewhat knowledgeable of who I was, which is something that my best friend speculates to be the case in real life anyways.

  13. You want a new, unique direction? I'll give you a new direction...

First off, let's take some cues from Call of Duty's Zombies mode. Particularly Treyarch's. See, Treyarch introduced wonder weapons...something Bionicle G1 almost, but never quite fully, dabbled in. What I'm proposing here is to have wonder weapons in Bionicle, to a larger extent than ever seen before. Why fight to obtain a mask of power when you can fight to obtain a wonder weapon, or even a set of them? Or, perhaps, whatever war is being fought could spur on an arms race that results in the creation of wonder weapons to provide an advantage to each side. If the Toa find themselves facing enemies stronger than them, why not create wonder weapons to level the playing field? Or even have a year without Toa, just a Matoran resistance armed with wonder weapons...or take it a step further and have a Toa team actually die, thus prompting the Matoran or Turaga to craft wonder weapons to avenge their fallen heroes.

Here's another one for ya...death. Life had a physical incarnation, so why not give death a physical representation? No, I'm not talking the Grim Reaper...think more along the lines of Hela. A god/goddess of death would certainly be an interesting main villain, and could even allow for the existence of other deities, just to spice things up.

That's all I'm gonna share for now.

  14. Continue G1? Just because Star Wars was able to do it doesn't mean everyone can. And bringing back the old building system? There's a higher chance of me going to a junkyard, managing to find my old car that got totaled in March 2016, and being able to fully restore and revive it. Do I want that black Mustang back? Absolutely. If given the chance to restore it, would I? Yes, and without hesitation. But that does it mean it's likely, or even possible? And if it were physically possible, would it be financially smart? See, my black 07 Mustang is much like Bionicle G1, and a G3 would need to be like my white 08. They're similar, both being the same package, but they're different. Things that looked good on the 07 may not work on the 08, and things that didn't look so great on the 07 look better on the 08. I know it's a strange analogy, but it's what LEGO needs to do. They need to make G3 similar, but different. Perhaps it's better to compare the 1965 Mustang and the 2005 Mustang...the 05 took everything that made the original great, and modernized it. It's basically Ford saying "this is what the original would look like if built today". I hope this makes sense to everyone...if not, I suggest reading about the history of the Mustang, that might make it clearer to anyone unable to relate here. Basically, I'm saying LEGO needs to take what made G1 work, update it, and then add something new to it to make it fresh and relevant again.

  15. It honestly depends on how you look at it...when it comes to physical looks, the Barraki, particularly Takadox. Of course, the Rahkshi look rather creepy as well. From a psychological standpoint though, I'd say the Visorak play on the primal, instinctive fear of spiders. The Bohrok and Vahki also reach into that psychological fear of that which is unstoppable. The Bohrok, and especially the Vahki, are much like the Terminator. Programmed for one mission...will not stop until destroyed, and are hard to destroy. Of course, the Rahkshi may have to take the cake in psychological terms due to being literal manifestations of invisible forces of destruction. Things you can feel, but not see...but then the Rahkshi gives these forces a face, and that face is far from pretty. So I think that after some quick analysis, it's safe to say that the Rahkshi and Barraki are definitely rather scary.

  16. It's a bit disappointing that the first time they see a slump in profit they decide to cut jobs. I'm sure there's all sorts of business sense for it and everything, but still is sad when you hear lots of folks will get let go. :(

It'll be interesting to see what the company changes. It's not like they're quite as erratic as they were in the 90s, but I'm sure there's still some things that could (and probably will) change.

    :music:

Maybe if things get as bad as they did back in the 90s, LEGO will bring Bionicle back for a G3 and put in as much effort - if not more - as they did for G1. It's amazing what people/companies/nations/bands/etc can accomplish when there is pressure to get something done and though failure isn't an option, there's a high risk of it.

  17.

It is sad to see such little faith in this community. G3 will happen. It is inevitable. Even if it takes longer, it will happen. All good IPs come back. Look at Transformers. It nearly died, until someone came in and brought new life into it. Look at the Resident Evil games...they were dropping in popularity, and then RE VII happened. Perhaps the things I'm a fan of have taught me more faith and patience than most, but that doesn't excuse us from not having faith. So what if G2 was essentially botched? That doesn't mean that G3 will be bad or that it won't happen. The problem with G2 was that, as Milla Jovovich recently said in regards to the reboot of the RE film series, "I think a lot of people with these franchises kind of put the car before the horse. There's a danger to that". LEGO put the cart before the horse, expecting it to sell well by default. Milla also went on to say "There’s some real fans in the sci-fi/action/horror world, and they’re not idiots. They can smell when something is done because people love it and when something is done just to monetize an opportunity". Bionicle G2 was likely done for the money, to be quite honest. Milla also said, "I would suggest that you find people that have that same passion for the property before you talk about reboots", which I think is honestly perfect advice for LEGO when Bionicle G3 does eventually happen.

You're forgetting how Lego have historically operated here. Hasbro stick to certain franchises and endlessly re-use the same characters. Lego on the other hand don't really focus that much on characters in most of their themes (except the big ones). When it comes to reboots bionicle was the exception to the rule. And the only way it was able to do that was by having exceptional good sales during it's life-span. However it went down in sales as the 2000s progressed until they cancelled the theme. When they brought it back the sales became out-right awful. What message will that send to Lego execs? That the new generation don't want bionicle. I don't see them trying out bionicle again until a new generation comes around (which won't be for another 20 year at least). And even then I doubt they'll do it as other themes have already surpassed bionicle's sales meaning those would be more likely to get the reboot treatment by that point. Lego don't tend to reboot things. Unless a consistent trend of direct reboots becomes a thing in the near future G3 is an IF not a when.

I forget nothing. Interesting point you bring up though...but I have a counterpoint. Some franchises have had the issues you described. Take, for example, the Godzilla movies. Were great, declined, went away. Came back, were awful, went away quick. 2014 brings us another new Godzilla, now we have a connected franchise forming. Same with King Kong. Let's not forget the Batman movies. People thought Batman would never return to the big screen after the failure that was Batman & Robin, yet we got the Dark Knight trilogy and now we have the DCEU. So to say it's an if just isn't something that makes sense. Even if it does take 20 years this time. Don't give up hope.
