Right, so we have less than 150 days until BrickFair. At this point in time, ChocolateFrogs and I have a semi-solid idea for the final product:

-Have a few 96x96 images (most likely four).
-Each image of a different year of the timeline.
-Start taking commitments, and if there's not enough people committed to make all four, knock off one image at a time (but we really don't want to end up doing that because this should be awesome and everyone should want to make a piece).

Something like this image[that now has a missing file. Oops.] (NOTE: these images are NOT going to be the final, they are just an example that I threw together.). If this was made into a mosaic, each individual character would be made out of nine base plates, totaling 36 baseplates in all. We'll eventually also add "Bionicle" and "BZPower.com" in small lettering as well:

And, with this layout, we wouldn't have to keep the four images in the square format: they could be separate and put at different corners of the Bionicle table(s), set into one long line, etc.

What we need from the community:
-We need to start making a list of members who can commit to making a baseplate or two (or four), and we have to start figuring this out now so we can figure out if we need to eliminate images or (maybe) add another image. Please list yourself here if you can commit to making at least one baseplate.

-If you are unable to attend BrickFair this year, you CAN still make a baseplate and mail it in. However, you'll have to include money for return shipping.

-List what your four favorite years of the Bionicle storyline are, AND provide images if you can. Remember, images need to be ones that when converted into mosaic form will still visually look good. Things such as profile shots of one or two characters will be better than intricately detailed ones of landscapes or fight scenes.

So, hop to it! I'm ridiculously excited about this, and the more community support and participation we get, the cooler this is going to turn out.

    (and 200 198 191 182 174 145 days until BrickFair!!!)

Oh hey, this is on the front page for news!

Here are my BrickCon 2012 images from the Sunday public day! While it was an interesting convention and I was able to see some really fantastic sculptures in person that I'd been following online for a while, I do not think I would attend BrickCon as a full convention-goer.

As usual, if you would like to use one of my photos (ie., if it is of you, it is your MOC, etc.), please PM me first, so I can keep track of where my photos are being used. Thank you!

I need sentences for my drawing final. I'll take a few of them that I like, and create them into finalized drawings.

    Guidelines:
-Make up sentences. They cannot be from a pre-existing book, magazine, movie, poem, etc.
-No established characters if there is a person in the sentence. If you're going to have a person in it, make them up.
-Nothing inappropriate (i.e., follow BZP rules here)

These are some examples from Chris Van Allsburg's book The Mysteries of Harris Burdick that kind of follow a rough idea of how I want to do this project, with a very narrative feel:

The fifth one ended up in France.

    Thanks!

Just a silly little thing that has been slowly pieced together in my mind since mid-August. I miss BrickFair, and so many of the people there loads right now. While I'm excited for the upcoming BrickFest (which I hope that many people I know will be able to attend!), I am really hoping that I'll be able to go to BrickFair 2011. My mom's attitude is that there is no way at all that I should go ever again, but I feel it's more of a money issue, than anything. So! My mental to-do list now includes trying to secure more scholarship money, hopefully getting the job in the art gallery again this school year, and maybe possibly selling paintings and/or photos. We'll see what happens. That, and going all the way to the East Coast on my own has sort of pushed the desire to travel even further in me, so we'll see what happens.

And, of course, BrickFair was amazing this year. Crazy, but amazing. So many crazy memories. So many awesome people, especially on staff that I met and hung out with. You guys are fantastic, and I miss you all bunches! I'm glad I can say I'm part of the BZP staff, as knowing the group who were at BrickFair this year, you guys never cease to make my day. Hugs!

(I'll also get the pictures I took up soon. Sorry! I have a ridiculous backlog of photos on my computer right now)

(also, yaaaaay, new bloggie. Hello, Keanu Metru-Nuju Reeves-whoever you are!)

    A reminder:

Spoiler tags are not to be used in the blogs unless it is hiding information that requires spoiler tags (storyline info, web content, new sets, etc.) as per the BZP spoiler policy here.

Oh no!, you say. What will I do if I can't hide all of my blog approvals/large amounts of quotes/photos/crazy storyline info in my blog entries and content boxes behind spoiler tags?

    You can:
    1. Deep link to each image, blog approval, topic, etc.
    2. Create a blog entry, lock the entry, edit the information into it, and then put a link to it in a content box, similar to what I have done with the list of blogs I follow here.

I think most of the people (and especially staff) at BrickFair who met him agree: he's just like, one of the coolest kids. Really awesome, respectful, funny, super fun to hang out with, smart....he's just so cool!

"He's also so far beyond adorable it moves to ridiculous and then back to adorable again." -DV

So, my friend and teammate in high school, Zach Abbott, qualified for the 2012 Paralympics in London. This is just way awesome, because it's been a goal of his since he was a kid to qualify for a Paralympics.

Here he is competing at the 2011 ParaPan American Games, where he placed silver in the 800m, and bronze in the 100m, 200m, and 400m:

At London, he is competing in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m in the T53 classification, and the 4x400m relay in the T53/T54 classification. He is ranked 5th in the world going into the 100m, and the 4x400m relay team he is on is ranked 4th. I am way excited to see him compete and hopefully do awesome!
Here he is at the opening ceremonies:

    Awesome!

Also, last chance to tell me if you're sending in MOCs or going to Bricks Cascade if you haven't already.

Today is the last day to register your MOCs and receive printed MOC cards. You can still register them after and be eligible for Brickee voting, but you'll have to make your own MOC cards.

If you register your MOCs you will be as happy as this cockatoo.

Hey guys, give me some suggestions for the art/mosaic/sculpture award categories for Bricks Cascade. I'm coordinating that theme, but based on info I've been given/my experience coordinating the Other category at BrickFair, it's going to be art-like things such as mosaics and sculptures, but there will also be a bunch of other random stuff that doesn't really fit anywhere else. Like tapeworms.

Right now categories I have as ideas are:
-best mosaic (will be a category for sure)
-best sculpture (also will be a category for sure)
-best vignette (same with this one. These first three are auto-ins)
    -best/most artistic
    -best use of colour
-best MOC based on a franchise
    -best/most random thing
    -best/most abstract

So, please suggest nixings or suggest category ideas as you see fit. I don't want to have a ton of categories, but I also don't want to leave something blatantly obvious out. It's kind of hard to judge when there's very few registered MOCs for Bricks Cascade, so deciding on things like "best franchise-based MOC" is pretty hard to decide. I've been looking at the BrickFair categories and they tend to keep it pretty clean and tight with the categories and I would like to mimic that here.

The other three images from the food project.

Deep-frying Oreos didn't go well, because they ended up looking like charcoal pieces and now the kitchen smells really bad. It did work for this though, since I needed to create a visually appealing but unappetizing image.

    Part 1 is here.

You can buy this shoe in the last days of Creations for Charity 2012! It is super cool and totally rad and I built it and oh man is it awesome it used up like all of my orange pieces.

All the proceeds of purchasing a MOC from Creations for Charity goes to purchasing LEGO sets for underprivileged children.

    Buy it here!

    Yeah!!!

Two of four images for a food project for studio photography. I started out initially with my theme being different black and white foods, but it became focused on Oreos as well. The first image is my close up, and the second is a mid shot. The third and fourth images (a place setting and an "unappetizing" but visually appealing") will be shot later this week once I get deep-frying Oreos down.

    Part 2 is here.

Check it. Seems to take a while to fully load (maybe to liken back to 1996 internet speeds?), but it might just be my computer.

I am starting a wizards on bikes brigade.

Put them in your signature, put them in your blog, wherever. Just make sure you follow the signature and avatar guidelines, especially the "signatures can contain up to ten images" one.

Yep, that's right. I'm making up words *cough*likeusual*cough*.

Spontaneous random acts like someone buying you premier membership are really quite nice. Just sort of brightens the day, makes things a bit better.

Now to figure out how all these buttons work....

Did you know that we have members on this site who might have no idea what Y2K is because they weren't alive at the time. That's pretty crazy.
