After finally getting a manga into my hands, I've started realizing how different my Greed is from FMA's.

Don't get me wrong, the last thing I want to do is copy the manga. I love how I've built my own characters from my own vision, and I've tried not to base them off of other characters that I've read about.

    Except Greed.

I'll openly admit that I originally based my Greed off of the Greed in FMA. I love the manga (never seen the anime :/) and Greed has always been one of my favourite characters. Thus, when I was accepted to play as Greed for the Toa Daedra, I immediately re-read FMA to get a handle on how I wanted to play Greed.

But after a few months of play, my Greed has radically shifted from the homunculus he was originally based off of.

The Greed in FMA is easygoing (at least the first one is), kinda friendly, and you get the feeling that, despite his sin, he's a nice guy. He doesn't lie. His greed translates into loyalty for his men, which is a suprisingly positive characteristic for someone based off of a sin.

My Greed appears nice enough, but that's just a front he puts on to get his way. He lies, cheats, and steals, and will only protect someone if they're useful to him. Otherwise, he just doesn't care.

Obviously, these two characters are quite different. The interesting thing is that they were orgiinally the same character. I drew quite heavily on FMA's Greed to write up Greed's profile and determine his playing style, but over time he has shifted to become his own unique character. It almost feels like Greed is writing himself, now, and despite my meddling's he's revealed his true character.

    And you know what?

    He's evil.

Over the downtime, my graduating class held its valedictorian elections. Basic picture: you fill out an application, which requires the signatures of other gradutating students, your grade point average and English marks. Then you write an essay outlining what your speech would entail were you elected. Then -the scary part- you have to deliver the essay as a speech to the entire graduating class. After all the speeches have been given, the class votes on a male and female valedictorian.

    And... guess what?

    I was elected valedictorian!

    :D

People compared my speech to Shane Koyczan's poetry, but that's obvious hyperbole. <.< I'll admit I did slip some spoken word in there, but only towards the end, and lines not nearly worthy of comparison.

Still, it was an amazing experience delivering a speech, though I was a huge bundle of nerves prior to giving it. The speech itself ranged between 4:30 and 4:50 in length, as I knew from having timed myself multiple times. I was practicing at 1am the night before, and I guess it paid off.

So, yeah. You might say I didn't really notice the downtime.

    Mexico!

That's right, your friendly neighbourhood Eyru is going on a two-week missions trip to Mexico with his youth group. He's going to be painting, building and repairing houses, and helping out churches.

    Yay!

    Now, on to business:

As far as the BZPRPG is concerned, last year I just left my only character alone for two weeks, simply because he never interacted with anyone. This year, however, I find myself with three active characters, one semi-active character, and a character I have written up and had approved, but have not found the time to introduce.

So, obviously, I'm not going to be able to play any of my characters for two weeks starting Thursday. The Daedra can just bunny Greed along, but I'm not sure what's going to happen with Jaal and Avya.

So, what's everyone else up to over spring break?

You know those profile ratings, y'know, on your profile? The five stars?

    I have an idea:

If you go to someone's profile and they are cool, give them one star.

    Because they are Number One.

We will flip the status quo, and the coolest people on BZPower will have one star.

And if the person is not cool? Give them one star anyway, because everyone is Cool In Their Own Way.

GUYS LET'S START A REVOLUTION GUYS

    Happy New Year!

In other news, I beat Skyward Sword a week ago in case you are interested. I'm working on completing all the sidequests and obtaining all the heart pieces now.

More other news: I miss the BZPRPG. I'm going to get involved again in the new year (although probably not to the extent I was involved last year; graduation and all that). Maybe just a character or two, but it's going to happen. Probably.

Even more other news: LoTR LEGO has me crying for joy.

Last piece of other news: I love you. Bye now.

Today is Leap Day: that is, February 29th, a day that only comes around every four years. Yay!

However, in my little corner of the world (aka Canada), today is also Anti-Bullying Day! Everyone wears a pink shirt as a small way of saying that bullying is not okay. Now only at school, but everywhere.

Being me, though, and not being inclined to take the easy route, I went all out. Pink pants, pink dress shirt, pink tie, pink scarf... it was a lot of fun, and a great way to remind people that bullying is definitely not cool.

I may upload a pic later, just because it was so great (but I'll be sure to scrub out my face because this is the internetz).

In other news, continue suggesting names, and the voting will begin tomorrow!

    ...I have.

Some friends and I flipped a classroom upside down the other day. The posters on the walls, the assignments on the board, the clock, the globe, all the desks.... everything.

It was, for lack of a better word, awesome.

In other news, Skyward Sword. How've y'all been?

...because he has such a cool song to inspire him.

Go The Distance. One of my favourite songs.

What, to you, is an inspirational song? This can be for anything, from writing to MOCing to sports... anything.

Personally, in addition to the above, I enjoy listening to JB's Never Say Never.

Wow, I've received quite a few name suggestions! Because there's so many, I've decided to choose the winner using a slightly unorthodox method:

I've separated the names submitted into three groups.

Tonight, the Vancouver Canucks are playing the Chicago Blackhawks in the seventh, final game of their series.

If the Canucks win, then the corresponding group will be the names voted on.

If the Blackhawks win, then those corresponding names will be voted on.

And if the two teams go into overtime, the final group of names wil be the ones voted on.

I'll post the poll tomorrow, with the winning names. Then you, yes, you, will have the opportunity to vote for whichever you like.

    Until tomorrow, comrades!

I have a habit of buying books.

In case you are new to this blog, I work at a coffee shop. The business right next door is a used book store, which I frequent often. As a result, I find myself acquiring new books all the time (much faster than I can read them).

Here's a list of books I currently have on the go:

Les Misérables - a book about- nevermind, you guys all know what it's about, right? ( and actually I started this one long before I saw the movie thank you very much )

Wild Cards - an anthology of short stories written by different sci-fi writers set in a shared universe where superheroes are the result of a virus.

A Game of Thrones - the first book in the Song of Ice and Fire series. It's fantasy and really, really good (yes, I am a latecomer to this series shhh [also I bought this book in like-new condition for $1 and that makes me happy] ).

I also recently finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time which was one of the strangest books I have ever read. But it was good, and, again, I got it for only a dollar, so I'm happy with it.

In the meantime, Tolstoy's War and Peace, Stephen King's Misery (The Shining got me hooked on King), and Margaret Atwood's Cat's Cradle (The Handmaid's Tale got me hooked on Atwood), among others, are staring me in the face, begging me to read them.

Anyone else in this sort of a situation? I have dozens of books, and no time to read!

Nintendo's E3 presentation was everything I feared it would be, and nothing I'd hoped it would be.

    Let me explain.

Nintendo (predictably) spilled some more info on the upcoming Wii U by showing the final versions of the controller, introducing the Miiverse (the Wii U's answer to Xbox Live), and elaborating on the "asymmetrical gameplay" that's apparently going to be all the rage. They unveiled a list of games that would be available for the console, which included the Wii Sports-esque NintendoLand, Pikmin 3, ZombiU, and Assasin's Creed 3 (the latter two were actually unveiled at Ubisoft's conference, so they don't really count).

And that's all great stuff! Don't get me wrong, I'm jappy as a jalepeno to see the great games coming in the future, and I'm excited to see how the Gamepad is going to be used.

    But... where's the Zelda?

    Zelda?

    Hold me.

As a rule, I don't watch many horror movies. Actually, I don't watch any. My parents don't like them, and I've never really had an opportunity.

That changed last night, with The Mist.

I have never been so terrified in my life. My friends and I were joking around during the movie, trying to lighten the mood, but every few minutes one of us would scream as some alien creature popped up and scared the living daylights out of us. Yes, it was a horror movie: I was horrified.

And once the movie was over, I didn't want to drive home. It was late and dark and the stretch of road that takes me home runs along the ocean so it's often quite foggy. I considered staying at my friend's house until morning, but it was a school night. So I ran to the car, expecting some bloodthirsty animal to sink its fangs into me at any second, jumped inside, and cranked the happy music.

    Yes, I made it home.

No, I didn't sleep last night.

We're thinking we'll watch The Descent next weekend.

I'm turning eighteen this summer, meaning the time is drawing very close that I will be able to attend a LEGO convention.

I'm hoping this year, but should it not work out, then definitely next year.

Living in British Columbia, Canada means that Seattle, for example, is not that far away...

    It was amazing.

I don't want to put any spoilers here (though really if you haven't seen it you shouldn't have clicked ), so I'll suffice with saying that it was an excellent movie. There are some parts that I would've liked to see done differently, and there are some parts that absolutely blew me away.

Aw, whatever, I've gotta get into a few specifics. If you haven't seen the Hobbit, guard yourself and turn away!

First of all, I have to say that the opening sequence was easily one of the best parts, if not the best part of the movie. Erebor was portrayed magnificently; every scene of the halls under the Mountain were stunning to the point of breathlessness. Smaug's invasion was thrilling even though the Wyrm himself was hidden, and the war at the gates of Moria was also excellent.

Andy Serkis stole the film as Gollum. The riddle-scene was more than I could hope for, and Bilbo's struggle between murder and mercy was brilliant (that reminds me: Martin Freeman did an exceptional job as the titular Hobbit).

Overall, it was an excellent movie. There were however, a few downsides:

One was the length. At nearly three hours, this movie almost matches each of the three LotR films for length. This isn't helped by the fact that the film drags a bit in parts, especially the first act, which is almost entirely spent inside Bag End.

Something else that disappointed me was the license that Peter Jackson took with the book. One of the things I love most about the LotR trilogy is how faithful, for the most part, it is to the books. The Hobbit, in contrast, is not. Some of these changes are nigh unnoticeable; some are appreciated; but some are completely unnecessary.

Regardless, I highly recommend the Hobbit. If you haven't seen it, but read through this entry anyway, I encourage you to go buy a ticket and see it for yourself. I loved it,and will probably end up seeing it in theatres at least a few more times.

What does everyone else think so far? Favourite scene? Praise? Complaints? Let's hear it!
