August isn’t a fun month, is it? Usually means back to school, if you’re in school.

But this August, you can get your very own Arceus just by going to GameStop! That’s right, just stop by your local game store, ask the employee at the counter for a neat little card with a serial number, and you get the Pokémon who created the Pokémon world (or maybe just Sinnoh)!

I won’t lie to you, part of me’s still angry this doesn’t involve the Azure Flute in some way. But you probably guessed that.

First things first, the fifth part of Beyond Ruin is up! Land, Sky, and Knowledge all make appearances, dealing with a new threat that has arisen due to the forces of magic reacting to the beliefs of the people. I mentioned this concept before and wanted to test out how it might apply to folklore.

I’ve been thinking more about it, and I think this sort of mechanic could have a big thematic impact. I feel like I might be getting a better idea of what this novel will be about! (If I ever finish it.) To go with this, I think I might use a different title for the novel. Originally I thought the major question brought up would be “What makes a person strong?”, which is why Divine Strength seemed like a good title. But now, that doesn’t really seem quite as fitting. I’m not 100% sure, but for the time being, the next working title for the novel is Divine Judgment. I’m not going to change the tags on the stories and collection just yet though—it might be confusing and I don’t want to do that until I’m more committed to this title.

On another note, I’ve been thinking more about the Queen of War and…well, I’m wondering if I should call her something else. I guess I’m concerned about what implications people might read into if I have a prominent world leader literally named War, and that might just be me overreacting, but I never am sure about that.

While most of the Queens embody elements, War and Knowledge are more like concepts, but War doesn’t necessarily have to be…well, war. The most basic form of what she represents is “growth through adversity”. You develop, change, and grow stronger by facing and overcoming hardships. War seemed like a natural manifestation of this for a medieval fantasy, and Queen of War just has a nice ring to it, I think, but I want to explore some other options.

Maybe Queen of Adversity? I kind of like that full title, but the shorter version might get weird. (“Adversity drew her sword,” “She turned to Adversity,” “Hey look at what Adversity did can you believe her?”) There was also that short story I did examining her titled Goddess of Evolution, maybe I could use that for her name as well? Queen of Evolution? Hm…Queen of Challenge? Queen of Resilience? I don’t know, I’ll keep thinking about it.

As always suggestions/feedback is appreciated. Hopefully I’ll have another part of Beyond Ruin up for you soon!

Avak ended up winning Technic Tournament 4 in 3D, and even wrested the Title away from that wretched sharkface Barraki! At least one thing had a satisfying ending today!

Since there was even less demand than usual this time, it’ll probably be a little while before I run Technic Tournament 5 Ocarina of Majora’s Twilight. However, while this game is fresh in your minds, I want to get an idea of what can be improved on, since I’d like more than just a new roster to justify another game.

Tournament 4 introduced a second roll determining how the money brought in by promotion gets split between the fighter a player wants to sponsor and their opponent. While I wanted a random element, I feel like this might have gone a bit overboard, so I’m thinking of a few possibilities for changing it:
-Providing a reroll on the split. This would be separate from the reroll offered in the case of failure, so each round you’d have 1 Reroll A and 1 Reroll B. In the event your reroll ends up giving even fewer Widgets to your preferred fighter, it will be disregarded and the original split will be finalized.
-Altering how the split is determined. Right now the system is: 1 gives 1/6 to your fighter, 2 gives 1/3 to your fighter, 3 is an even split, 4 gives 2/3 to your fighter, 5 gives 5/6 to your fighter, and 6 gives all to your fighter. I thought a better way might be that rolling a 1, 2, or 3 gives all the Widgets to your fighter, while rolling a 4, 5, or 6 splits it evenly. (Or maybe 6 will give only 25% to your fighter, so there’s still one chance of critical failure?) This is the option I’m favoring at the moment.
-The ability to purchase an “upgrade” that affects split rolls. The split roll would remain the same as in Tournament 4, but you will also have the option of spending some Widgets to buy this upgrade, and then your next promotion (or all promotions that round?) either uses the method listed above, or we skip the split roll altogether and give all the profits to your fighter.
-Or, if players feel the system is alright as is, then there’d be no need to change it I guess. I haven’t actually been told anything specific about it.

Something else I considered adding is a Bribe system. What I’m thinking is that, when a player signs up, I’ll do a roll and determine a secret Charisma stat for them, but not tell them what it is. Then, each round, they can attempt to Bribe the management to add money directly to a specific fighter’s pool. If successful, a portion of the amount offered (25%?) would simply vanish as a small ”fee”, while the rest is given to the fighter in question. If unsuccessful, the management issues a reprimand and all the money offered just vanishes. It’d be a more controlled way of adding money to a fighter, but you wouldn’t be able to multiply it like with promotion, plus you have no idea what your chances actually are. Not entirely sure about this, but hey, it can’t hurt to give it a try, right?

Any suggestions you have on anything are welcome!

So I don't know if I've said it over here, but I have a pet parakeet! His name is Zazu and he is beautiful and smart and I love him.

He's been limping for about a week so I took him to the vet this morning, and it appears he has little to no feeling in his left leg. The doctor says this is likely a sign of a tumor. We have some medicine for him, though I doubt he's going to enjoy taking it, but unfortunately there really isn't a whole lot to be done and tumors apparently get parakeets after a few months.

If anyone has any spare emotional support lying around I'd really appreciate if I could borrow it. Also prayers, if you have those. Please.

Earlier this year I ran Slizer Dome, a game where the players assumed the role of Slizers and battled each other in a tournament to decide who was the very best. After having set it aside for a while, I think I’d like to start up a sequel sometime during the next month or two.

“Sequel” might not be the most accurate—I do hope to eventually do a game in this series inspired by the Slizers 2000 story, but this next game will actually be based on the multiple planets version of the Slizers story. So it will either be called “Slizer Dome US”, or “Throwbot Dome”. (Take your pick!) I think I’m also going to ditch the tournament aspect, meaning a winner won’t be decided by number of fights won anymore. I think this game will instead use a point system and proceed as follows.

Each of the seven rounds will still be divided into two parts, and the first part will stay the same: players choose to Train their physical ability, Forge a disk, or Gather a resource. I’ll RNG a number 1-8, and the resulting weapon will be added to their inventory (Disk 3, Physical 7, etc). This time, if you pursue a weapon you already have at least one of, numbers lower than the level you already have will be removed from the list. So, if you have Physical Level 5 and elect to train, I’ll RNG a number 5-8 rather than 1-8. This should increase your chances of actually increasing your weapon level rather than being stuck with what you’ve already got. You will then receive points based on what level of weapon you received! If you get a Level 1 weapon, you get 100 points. Level 2, 200 points, and so on. If you fail to increase the level of your weapon, you will receive only 100 points regardless of level. When you receive a Level 8 weapon, you will receive a point bonus based on how early in the game you got it: in round 1, a 700 point bonus; in round 2, a 600 point bonus; and so on. There will probably also be a point bonus for reaching Level 8 in all three areas, though I’m not quite sure how much.

The second part of each round will then be a battle against the Elemental Monster of the planet you’ve chosen. You pick one of your weapons, and I’ll RNG an affinity for the monster, and then we see how they match up rock-paper-scissors style. I’m not sure yet if I’ll also RNG levels for the monster, or if you’ll get a tie from both having the same weapon (in which case weapon levels are really only a concern of points). Obviously you’ll get points for defeating these, though I haven’t decided how many, and if a tie is a possible result you’ll probably get half that amount as a reward for not losing.

I’d like to do something special for the final round again, but now that the second part of every round basically functions the same as Slizer Dome’s Millennia battle, I feel like I should try to think up something even more different. We’ll see how that goes.

So would anyone be interested in playing this? I’d love any suggestions you might have!

EDIT: After thinking about it a little, I think I’ve actually already got things together. I never was good at pacing myself.
-Elemental Monsters will have randomly generated levels as well as affinities.
-Defeating an Elemental Monsters gives 1000 points. If you both have the same affinity and level, you will tie and receive 500 points. If you tie at Level 8, it is considered a victory.
-There will not be a bonus for getting Level 8 in all three areas, you’ll already have gotten three bonuses and have a very good chance of succeeding in all battles.
-Round seven part two will have an alternate opponent you can choose to fight instead of the elemental monster. I won’t spoil who it is, but the foe will be guaranteed to be Level 8, and victory will double your score, but defeat will halve it.

Not sure when the game will go up (and still need to decide on title), but keep an eye out for news once Technic Tournament 4 in 3D wraps up!

A thing I saw on social media prompted this and I thought I’d just throw it up to see what happens. Asking random questions is a popular thing here in the blogs, yes?

Suppose you’re leading a makeshift Toa team, and you can choose the main character of up to five things (TV show, movie, book, anime, game, whatever). What does your team look like? Bonus points if you can work out actual team dynamics or even Kaita.

The only catch is you’re not allowed to choose Goku/DBZ.

    Deliberate.

Yeah, Square Enix is at SDCC showing off some cool new Kingdom Hearts merch, but something even more interesting?

We're hitting the third anniversary of Kingdom Hearts X in Japan, and the special artwork released for it gives us a glimpse at what might be KHIII outfits for Riku and Kairi--but do you know what is even more interesting?

    KEYBLADE ARMOR AVATAR PARTS.

My prayers have been answered! And they're color-coded by Union to boot! I love the Ursus armor color scheme, I can't wait for it to reach NA Unchained! I really, really hope it will be free...or if it does cost jewels, I hope I have enough to buy it while it's available. I want Keyblade Armor really badly. Really, really badly.

Head over to G&T to play Technic Tournament 4 in 3D!*

Round 1 begins immediately, and will last 48 hours! So don’t waste any time—get over there and start sponsoring! Let’s pick someone who can beat Pridak this time!

Chapter 2 of Shooting Star Sonia 2 is up!

While chapter 1 was more of an original prologue, this chapter starts to get into the adaptation proper, though things have been moved around and I’ve decided to begin with something that happened a little later in the original game. Hey, it helps if there’s an actual reason for the villains to be targeting the heroine, right?

I tried to revise the world history presented in the game into something a little more cohesive here, and also more clearly emphasize the connections between Mu and the Lost Tribes. There may also be some subtle hints to what you can expect from the Tribe On forms, and a little fun is poked at some choices the game made, though I’ll admit they’re a little obscure. (I guess I’m a nitpicker after all!)

    Chapter 3 is on-track for August 1st!

(No, that’s not the new title of the game.)

I know I said the next tournament would be up a few months ago, but stuff came up and I just wasn’t feeling up to running it. Sorry about that.

But, I think I’m ready again, plus now I can say I’m doing it to celebrate BZP’s anniversary.

So, Technic Tournament 4 in 3D will begin on Wednesday, July 20th! As usual, you can join whenever you want, but joining in the first round gives you the best chance at success—and this time, each round only lasts 48 hours! Don’t miss it!

I was playing Unchained's latest update today and encountered a Trident Tail Omega. Level 1 so it wasn't too bad, but I am a bit puzzled.

Now, Trident Tail has an interesting design, and the general color scheme of the Omega works I guess, but...

Did you really need to paint flames on it...?

Yet again, brainstorming new fanfic ideas instead of progressing on old ones.

There are two oneshot crossovers I’m thinking of, but I’m also considering one other larger undertaking. Unchained X gave us an opportunity to create an avatar of ourselves within the Kingdom Hearts universe, but naturally, that’s been left as open as possible. So, I can’t help but consider the prospect of fleshing Pahrak out a bit more.

It makes the most sense to start with backstory, but after that, I thought it might be interesting to continue on into a slightly-altered telling of Unchained’s story. Obviously there’s still a lot we don’t know so I might have to make some sharp turns later on to meet back up at the canon ending, but still, it could be fun. And I’d like to play around in this world a little more.

It’ll probably be one of those “post as I have it” things, so I feel like I should pick a title before I really get started. I thought of just doing something simple like Pahrak of Ursus, and I do like the sound of that…but if I wanted something more appropriate for Kingdom Hearts, I’d probably go with something like Re: Unchained X – Oneirism for Avatar.

    Hm. I wonder…
  13. Pahrak Model ZX
About five months after the first one ended, I’m finally ready to start Shooting Star Sonia 2: Tribe!

This might’ve been out a little sooner if not for computer troubles (which seem to be doing much better, thank God) and standard-issue distractions…and Kingdom Hearts Unchained X…but anyway, I got a bit of a headstart before deciding to post the first chapter, so hopefully updates will be regular for at least a little while. For now the schedule is every other week, so expect Chapter 2 on the 18th!

I’m already taking some more liberties this time around, since the general consensus is that Star Force 2 was Very Bad. For starters, rather than a gap of 2-3 months between games, SSS2 takes place two years after the end of the first, and in the duration Sonia has been working alongside NAZA to maintain relations with Planet FM in addition to restarting her singing career. (It bugged me that the entire trilogy takes place in under a year.) The other changes will be revealed steadily, but hopefully I’ve been able to smooth over some of the more glaring issues the game had.

So there you have it! It’s time for Sonia’s second battle to begin!

Apparently volume 73 of Bleach just came out in Japan, and it states that volume 74 will be the last. With how many chapters are usually put into volumes and how many have already been serialized in Jump, estimates are saying that there are five chapters left in the series.

    Haaaaaaaaaaaaaang on

Now I know I’m on record as frequently saying I want Bleach to end, and I do, but with the point the series is currently at as of last week? If we only have five more chapters to go then I only see two outcomes:

    1. The ending is super-rushed, which is just going to be a huge letdown, despite all the disappointment I’m still fairly invested and was holding a tiny tiny sliver of hope that there could be a decent ending.

    2. Nothing will be resolved and a dang spin-off is gonna start up and I’ll be stuck with this series for another fifteen years.

I don’t know which is worse so I’m really hoping that this is all a huge misunderstanding/marketing ploy. First Bionicle, now Bleach! Why must the things Child Me liked that start with the letter B get treated this way? D:
  15. Pahrak Model ZX
The NA version of Unchained just got to the point where the story really gets started!

…And most people are upset that the new character, known in Japan as Ephemera, is now being called Ephemer in the translation.

    PRIORITIES!

What baffles me more is that a few missions before that they show your character sleeping and don’t bother changing their outfit at all. I wear a jetpack. I was lying in my bed wearing a jetpack that flared to life every few seconds. How did my bed not catch on fire? I am appalled that they would portray me as so irresponsible, everyone knows to take their jetpack off before they go to bed!

Also the player character actually speaks briefly, which is almost as rare as Link or any Pokemon protagonist speaking. This is also far more interesting than the letter A.

And it looks like I should actually be able to afford this week’s special 10 Medal deal, which guarantees several high-tier Medals and gets you 3 free Cid Medals! Combined with the reset Coliseum, I should be able to reduce cost on Three Wishes just enough to evolve HD Aqua! Hopefully I’ll get some good Reversed and Speed Medals. Or a good Reversed Speed Medal.

Would I July to you about this?

Shaymin is available over Mystery Gift right now! And I’m sure there’s some way of getting the item to change its forms in XY and ORAS, but I don’t really care enough to look up what it is right now.

This is especially momentous for me because Shaymin was, aside from Volcanion (and then there’s Sun and Moon but y’know), the only Pokémon my Living Dex was missing. So I now have 720 Pokémon, and can achieve that same number in any Gen VI game simply through transferring! If I just get a chance at Volcanion, I’ll have a totally complete Pokedex for maybe a few days! (Depends on exactly when the US gets it, I guess…)

This is probably poorly organized but what the heck. Spoilers obviously, mainly pertaining to X and its variations though it also deals with Master Xehanort's plans, which is more of a BBS/3D thing. Also refers to the second secret ending of the Re:coded cinematic in 2.5, but that's the only interesting thing about that story so I don't feel bad if I spoil that.

So if Master Xehanort’s Keyblade is “the most ancient Keyblade in existence”, then the most logical assumption is that it was made by the Master of Masters, right? As far as we know he was the first wielder, given how early in the timeline X is and that’s when Keyblades really took off. It would also explain its similarities to the Foretellers’ Keyblades.

And I think we were all pretty surprised to find out that the guy in the black coat talking to the Foretellers is the Master of Masters. I was sure he was the mysterious Sixth Apprentice.

And that’s a weird point too: If the Master of Masters gave new names and Tomes of Prophecies to five of his apprentices, it’s really strange that he didn’t do that for the sixth.

But you know…that Keyblade is heavily associated with someone who likes putting his heart into other people to possess them. And the story of the Foretellers seems to parallel Ansem and his apprentices, which ended with one of them assuming his identity. Except, maybe this time, that happened in reverse?

I wonder if, after giving Tomes and new names to the Foretellers, the Master of Master possessed his final apprentice. This Keyblade might’ve always been used for obtaining new vessels–this could be the “will that has been passed down.”

Related to that, I’ve also been wondering what all powers a Master of Masters might have. Keyblade Masters are able to control hearts. Would a Master of Masters’ powers be a logical extension of that? My first thought on how that might work would be that a Master can control their own heart, but a Master of Masters can also control the hearts of others. Of course, we’ve already been told that regular Masters can control the hearts of others…but as far as I recall, the only one we’ve seen do that is Xehanort. The guy who has the Keyblade that probably belonged to the Master of Masters. So, maybe?

Anyway there are a few different ways I think this could go:
-One possibility is that the Master of Masters is going to end up being the True Villain, and Xehanort has been possessed by him for a while now. This is a twist Kingdom Hearts is rather fond of, and it would fit well with Young Xehanort’s apathy and insistence that getting that Keyblade is what will direct his destiny, plus the Master of Master’s future-seeing ability would go a long way towards explaining how crazy-prepared Xehanort is. Kind of hoping this isn’t the case though. #stopretconningXehanortsidentity
-Maybe the Master of Masters is still out there somewhere, and he’ll end up being the villain of the next saga? Xehanort might’ve just learned about the Keyblade and what it was used for through his research. Now, if the Keyblade is tied to vessel-making, then it may not be likely he’s still body-jumping now that Xehanort has it, but there are other ways he could still be around. Perhaps he has also become Unchained, whatever that means.
-Or, maybe the Master of Masters was killed long before the Xehanort Saga and Xehanort is just using him as inspiration.

I’m not entirely sure how it’s all going to go down, but I’m positive that Keyblade belonged to the Master of Masters, and I’m very eager to see just what that connection might mean.

Dramatic Personal Life Nonsense You Should Really Just Ignore
I hate my job I hate my job I hate my job I hate my job

Sundays are awful. Closing is awful. Closing on Sundays is awful enough, but then someone calls in 20 minutes before we close saying they want a catering order for tomorrow at 11:30 AM, we call the caterer at home and she says she’ll do it, and we end up having to stay late to cut 12 pounds of meat and cheese for this idiot, and I’m just not entirely sure how to put my current emotion into words. Certainly not BZP-appropriate words.

On that note there’s a slight chance a customer heard me mumbling curses so who knows I might be fired! I mean, I talked to tonight’s closing manager before I left and he didn’t say anything, so maybe they didn’t report me and I can keep my job, but either way I’m a horrible person and I sort of do hope they fire me!

    Aaaanyway

You’re probably thinking “If you hate your job, you should look for a new one.” That’s a logical response, that’s what a person should probably be doing in this situation. For some reason I just haven’t been able to kick myself hard enough to do that yet. Probably that all-consuming feeling that life is totally meaningless, but I know that that’s never going away, haha!

What’s a good way to waste time? I might still have up to fifty years to go and I kind of just want to check out until I can clock out.

Kingdom Hearts Unchained X is doing a bunch of special events to celebrate the new II.8 trailer and demo at E3, as well as being released all across Europe!

-For starters, 25 new story quests were added! This wraps up the Olympus Coliseum story (already?) and gives you another Orichalcum, so there are now just enough Orichalcum to get all five currently-available Keyblades to their third tier! (Third-tier Olympia looks so cool, and it has 16 gauges!)

-The 600 jewel Daily Deal has been enhanced, now guaranteeing five star medals! This is of course a limited time offer, and be aware that the medals you get from this won’t necessarily be…good. I got a 5 Star Tidus today.

-There’s also a new VIP quest for those who buy the 3000 jewel pack, giving you medals to evolve and boost your medals, but who can afford that?

-For a limited time, ALL AP costs are 1! Every single quest, no matter what it is, even Raid Bosses, only costs 1 AP! Time to grind!

-Perhaps best of all, just log in over the next week and you get a free HD Aqua Medal! This 5 Star Medal depicts Master Aqua’s II.8 render, has great stats (at about half-way to Level 80 it’s already outclassed two of the Magic Medals I’ve been using), and its special deals 7 hits at x2.90…and only costs 1 special gauge!! (The only downside is that it only hits one random target, but that can easily be worked around!) Seriously, I just saw someone who got it to 6 Star Level 100, and it has 7000 strength and nearly as much defense! Master freaking Aqua, everybody!

This is great and I love it and I need to go level up and evolve this Medal now bye.

UPDATE: They just started up another event, this one giving you a chance to get three new Medals: KH3D Sora, KH3D Riku, and Meow Wow! Unlike the Snow White and Dwarves event, these evolve like normal medals, so the bare minimum number you'll need to Guilt them is seven of each. Which is good, because it is not at all likely you'll be seeing many Soras or Rikus. You will, however, find yourself with dozens of Meow Wows. Thank God everything's 1 AP right now...anyway, I'm told they'll be really powerful Medals, but they are Low Tier Guilt and their specials all cost a whopping 4 gauges each, so it's up to you. You might as well Guilt them if you can, though.

Battle Royal was just announced for Sun and Moon and OH MY GOSH

I mean I might never actually get to fight one but OH MY GOSH

I love all the updates to the interface, these games might really feel like a culmination like ORAS did...as opposed to X and Y...

I'm really interested in this talk about guardian deities for the four islands. Are they Legendary Pokemon or something else? Is Tapu Koko the name of a Pokemon, or will it end up having a different actual name?

It looks like Sun and Moon could have a huge myth presence in them, which is just what a Sinnoh-lover like me has always wanted. I need to start scraping together some cash...
  21. Pahrak Model ZX
Unchained gave us a lot of boost Medals this month, so my Guilted Goofy now has maxed out strength and defense and minimized cost!

The only way this can get stronger is if I can get a better Guilt percentage (Low Tier, so best possible is 25%). I might give that a try, but that's random so who knows.

I've reduced cost on enough Medals that I could put a third 6 star medal on both Treasure Trove and Lady Luck, but...I don't know. I'm not sure if any of the Medals I have right now are necessarily Medals I'm going to want to keep for a long time (with the exception of Kairi, but being a buff Medal I've been told it might be wiser to leave that at 5 star). Meh, maybe I'll hold out and hope for some nice Reversed Medals on my next pull. (Still don't have even a single one! D: )

Yes the main stories for this year are dreadfully overdue but whatever that’s not important right now.

As teased previously, Karios has been working on a spin-off for the series featuring his character Max. It will show him working his way across Okoto to settle into the role of being the new Mask Maker, and may also have a few hints toward the future sprinkled in along the way.

The story is in progress, but he is looking for some feedback and has posted the first piece over in short stories! Please take a look and give him some comments to work with!

Rather than wait until E3 Square Enix gave us
    for Kingdom Hearts II.8 today!
The section for Dream Drop Distance is pretty straight forward. It certainly looks lovely, but I do find myself wishing there would be new content in this rather than a simple facelift.

The 0.2 section lets us see Aqua in action in the KH3 engine, and it looks pretty darn awesome! Looks like the Command Style has been altered for the new mechanics (maybe this is how Keyblade Transformations will function in III?), and, of course, she has plenty of extremely powerful magic. Didn't see any Flowmotion, though. There's also a surprise appearance, though I'm fairly certain it's just some kind of illusion to mess with poor Aqua. #saveMasterAqua2ksoon

The section for Back Cover is really wild. This is our first real look at what it...well, looks like, and it looks just as nice as 0.2. Which is a far cry from the limited sprites of Unchained X! I'm really curious to know who's voicing these characters, but that could be a spoiler and is probably being saved for a later date. The Foretellers seem interesting: we've known that Vulpes will be important for a while, and now it's looking like Unicornis and Ursus are taking more active roles. Anguis and Leopardus seem to be hanging back for now. What really surprises me, though, is the body language of the Sixth Apprentice, at least in the scene where he's talking to Unicornis. He seems so...not Xehanort like! That's promising!

The big shock is that the game is apparently getting a worldwide release. I mean, sure there's not as many new lines to record, but still, this is a first for the series, maybe even the company? It's pretty neat!

Now if I could only afford a PS4.
