  1. Remember, though, that the meta-humans would be so good at it that regular humans would soon find themselves out of a job. A bit like how machines are doing more and more of the labor these days while laborers are laid off. That would probably not be illegal, but the average human would not take kindly to the idea that him and pretty much everyone in his division just got laid off because of one guy who can do all their jobs at once, and probably better.

Obviously a telepath just reading the minds of those around them would be illegal - there are privacy laws for one's house and belongings, it follows that one's mind is the same - but how they would be detected and enforced is another matter. They'd probably result in fines or imprisonment (specialized for the psychic) same as any crime, but how would such infractions even be detected? How can the untrained person on the street even tell their mind is being read? If another psychic happened to pass by and detect the intrusion, that's good, but you can't exactly rely on other psychics being nearby.

Then there's the potential for crime. A single super-powered criminal, not necessarily a super-villain but simply a thug with super-strength and bulletproof skin, could single-handedly rob a bank. A lesser power, maybe a low-level pyro, could dominate a street gang, even several street gangs, possibly an entire neighborhood, and without competing gangs to deal with his would own those streets until some other (preferably fireproof) super came by.

And, to throw a wrench in the works, what if really low-level powers were fairly common? Industrial accidents, low-power mutants, what-have-you. An entire group of these might gather together. Ever played City of Heroes? You know the Outcasts? Something like that.

  2. Too late! :P You know you waaaaant to...

To spark off actual conversation: At some point someone's going to say that meta-humans are 'taking jobs from hard-working citizens'. This will be entirely true. How many couriers does a company need when they have a teleporter who can get the jobs of ten humans done in a couple minutes? Significantly less. But can the teleporter be blamed for using his talents to get ahead? Some people are, whether naturally or by dint of effort, faster than others and as such make better couriers, but it's not illegal for them to take jobs. Is it that much different to be that much faster?

  3. Wow... That sounds like some crazy [DELETED]. Guess I can't blame you for not wanting to add one more thing to the mess. Now I just have to figure out who I can blame for this- I was really looking forward to HAtD. For one thing, it's the first time I've officially been the leader of a faction. And I was gonna give Theron a shield in the new version. He would've learned to wield a sword somewhat longer than he is tall with ONE HAND. That's a decent amount of awesome.

But I'm getting off-track. My own disappointment aside, I get your reasons. Good luck with everything, Exo.

  4. So here's how I see it: Eiffel Tower = World's biggest lightning rod. On Spectacular Spider-Man Doc Connors injected himself with electrified lizard blood and became the Lizard. So if I can use that tower to bring on a storm, then wrap one end of a copper wire around it and the other around a vial of lizard blood, that'll create SUPER-electrified lizard blood, which I can inject into myself to become GODZILLA!

...But then how would I play videogames if I'm that size? Darn, back to the drawing board.

  5. Seriously? The six-year-olds are one of the reasons I avoid spending time with the family. They're loud, immature and constantly bug you when it's clear you want nothing to do with them. I would've found the nearest closet, made myself relatively comfortable and let my twisted imagination lead me to places no one should ever be.

  6. By that I'm going to assume he's either on our side or just not on the enemy's side. *marches around in full battle armor before a HAtD banner* We have a tough battle ahead of us. There are several RPGs that stand a good chance of winning, and while ours is among them, we can not allow ourselves to fall to overconfidence! Now if you haven't already, get out there and vote! If you have, advertise! We need all the support we can get! Are you with me?!

  7. Lemme put it this way: Halfway through reading the post, I had already started planning my character. Then, just as I was about to post this, another just strolled into my head. Which makes me wonder how many you can have.

One thing that really caught my eye was how you made Le-Matoran happy-go-lucky as ever in the Locations section, but in the Factions area you made them look evil and cunning. If this was some error, might wanna look into that. If not... I am gripped by horrified fascination.

Only now I'm conflicted on who to vote for. Woe is me!... Seriously, that's a pain. Lots of good entries read up on already, plus some returning champs. But this one definitely ranks with the champs, I will tell you this now. A very good chance of my vote. We'll see how it plays out, yah?

  8. ...I have got to make one of those.

Anyway, I'm not sure which I would've defended, though I would have added the sun as a reference earlier in the debate. The way I see it, both the light/heat from the sun and drinking water are essential to life, but if asked which influenced culture most, fire is definitely the winner. Modern culture relies heavily on machines that simply could not exist without fire. As for which is more destructive, both are equally so, in my opinion... but honestly, which would you prefer: a gentle death by drowning, or the blistering agony of having your flesh seared from your bones?

    That's what I thought.

In summary, a great debate. Good job to both, the arguments were well-thought-out and excellently-worded.
